Has anyone compared Eve-Online and X2-The threat???
Here is the link: http://www.egosoft.com/
I'd like to know if anyone has played both and can provide a detailed comparison of which game is really worth throwing your hard earned real life money into. Eve lacks so much content and CCP keeps f*cking up the game that it's easy for anyone to begin looking at Eve's competition if you really want to have a identify in a game besides owning a fleet of ships, ship mods, and to find what one really wants.
It would be nice to be able to dock with other ships, do planetary exploration, and own more than a freeking ship to look at.

I hate X2 played it for about 25mins. Then I tried loading it up again last week to give it a second chance, but is still not gonna happen. Yet again I'm only logging into EVE to skill and keep my alts research agents happy.

I tried X2... i hated it... i played for an hour the first time.. Came back a week later... gave it a second try... just as bad...
It was a real disapointment :p...
Freelancer is a decent space game... For older space sims with good stories.. i suggest wind commander 3, 4 and prophecy.. great games..
Try Elite or Elite: First Encounters... Old games.. but good :) ---------------------------

Its not exactly a comparison tbh,
X2 is not online,
its merely a poor Frontier Elite clone tbh. Sass Arcane Technologies |

*Sniff sniff* It just makes me want to cry to hear someone else who hasn't forgetten Wing Commander.
It's too bad that Origin, maker of WC, went bankrupt and was bought out by EA. What I think sucks is that EA has done nothing with WC or anything for that matter with Origin.

I thought X2 had the worst POS menu interface of any game ever. It was ridiculously complex to get anything done. While installing it I was flipping through the manual, getting all stoked about trying piracy in a game where its remotely possible, just couldnt get over the complete **** controls

It's a good game but it is basically trying to be like eve but without any real people and no where near the same scope. For a pure single player game it's ok, but if your used to eve you WILL miss the player interaction you get in eve.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

X2 looked nice in theory, but that's where the positive things end .
Horrible interface, horrible controls, horrible charactars, horrible story. -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

X2 has one thing up on EVE. Well, two.
- First, the economy actually WORKS. THe concept that stations trade with eachother, the whole supply and demand thing... you can actually use your brain and make money by trading. The supply / demand / prices make sense. In Eve the supply / demand / prices are so messed up and broken it's sad. Yes you can still find places to buy low and sell high, but there's not much rhyme or reason to the prices. Nine times out of ten it doesn't matter wether you're buying from a university or a factory. Out of the entire market there's maybe 1% of goods that you can buy for less than you can sell. ANd more often than not that's due to players putting orders up and not from the NPC station set values.
- The second part and the coolest is that you can buy henchmen. You can own other ships and have them run trade routes for you, fly as wingmen, etc. You can also buy and deploy factories, solar plants, ore mines and refineries, etc. This is an awesome way to let you further intereact with the economy. If you identify a sector which needs to ship in power from several sectors away, establish a solar plant there and the other stations will send ships back and forth to buy YOUR goods.
Of course, being able to buy wingmen is counterintuitive to a MMORPG, but other concepts like being able to deploy factories and hire NPC trade-runners would be a welcome addition to EVE in my opinion.
So, as you can see, you get a much better feel that the economy is alive and working in X2. In Eve, it's a clusterF#$*.

Agreed! The controls sucked so bad, and the menu interface is even worse!
Quite possibly the worst game I've played in a long, long time. I played probally for 5 or 6 hours as well, hoping it would get better... nope.
The alt forum trolls here could make a better game.

Fancy that! I agree with Evol on something
Anyway, I played X2 for about 10 minutes before uninstalling it due to the ridiculous controlls. I was willing to bear everything else, but I was fresh out of a game of Freelancer and X2 just doesnt compare.

Edited by: Dirossi on 09/09/2004 03:01:26 Hmmmmm, thanks for the comments and info. I did DL it and played it too..the game looks ok, but is buggy as hell and yes, the control IF is horrible. The interior of the ship was a nice break away from the exterior camera view from Eve though.
One things that I did come away with was the realism of bumping into roids, stations, and other ships which did cause damage to my piece of crap ship. It would still be cool to own more than just a space ship in a game. Would be nice to place your own name and trademark on items that you build in Eve.
It's such a shame that with all the money that CCP makes off of us that they find it so difficult and are hard pressed to make Eve-Online more realistic in the financial trading/market and space exploration side of things and give us an immersion effect of space.
Anyone know of or have any links to space games that compete with Eve-Online? I'd like to check them out too.

X2: The Threat sucked. Everything about it sucked. It had very little mouse support. You had to move the mouse left or right about a yard just to turn 45 degrees. áThere was no sense of actually being in space. All the stations were just there in each system. Same thing for the planets and stars. They were just there. Nothing seemed to be orbiting anything. It was just as displaced as the chump change on my counter that hasn't made it to the piggy-bank yet..
There's really no comparison between EVE Online and a Space Flight Simulator though. EVE Online is a global online RPG game. EVE Online is mostly based on time, communication, and politics. Multiplayer flight simulators are more based on skill, cunning, and wisdom. The true meaning of ownage can't be exercised in EVE. áIf you can muster enough time, communication, and politics in EVE Online though, you can almost make it work like a Real Time Strategy game. Like Homeworld but where every unit has a mind of it's own. Which makes it hard for one person to command the fleet without alot of time, communication, and a little politics.
Check the horizon for some good space games though. I wouldn't be surprised if EVE OnlineÆs success played a part in motivating other companies to try space games again. The genre seems to be coming back from the grave.
Elite 4 might be good.. Also check out: http://www.starshatter.com/ <- So so graphics. http://www.nexusthegame.com/index.html <- Sweet tactical space sim.
I would chop off one of my legs if they made another BattleZone game though. Specially since I really wouldn't need legs anymore if they did. Still haven't seen a game quite as awesome as BattleZone and BattleZone II since it's creation. Check out the intro video from the first BattleZone game. (Intro Video).. áThis IS the best 3D base-building RTS game of all time.
