I was reading some posts and came across a guy talkin about ideas for ccp to get creative on ships. Most of them didn't seem that appealing except one and i thought it a perfectidea. The fighter in question would be a an artillery ship. I was thinking that this would be a great addition to fleet battles and possibly make them even more strategic. It could be a frigate or cruiser sized ship with low shields, high armor, with low speed and a very limited number of slots. It might also boast large range and damage bonus's as well as being able to carry a speciallized weapon such as an artillery turret. This way only this type of ship could use it and it would be able to sit way back from the battlefield and hammer at it in the way of a mobile sentry gun almost. Anyways, just an idea

The Minmatar Cruiser Bellicose almost fits that description exactly. With 720mm scouts and loads of tracking mods(adds to range too) I've gotten it to crank out decent damage out to 80k. Average damage according to Combat log analyzer was 70 dmg per shot, with one as high as 320dmg for wrecking.(only once tho over an hour of testing this on a corpmate)
Now, if only CCP would add the ability to warp within 80 and 100k of gangmembers, these ships could be effective for long range arty bombardment when you don't want to sacrifice a typhoon or tempest.

What Minmatar need to solve 50% of their Projectile problems would be a 'warp in at 200km' button. At that range, tracking isn't that much of an issue anymore.
Of course CCP then needs to friggin swap the optimal from hybrids and projectiles (40km-48km). Then they have to give Tempest the longest targetting range instead of the shortest (whyyyyy give a so called 'long range ship' the shortest range???) And then of course CCP needs to adress the horrible dot from projectiles, because at 200km I doubt you can kill any BS just because the bs can repair faster than you can shoot it off.
BUT, 200km would solve the tracking problem.

/me imagines the instagang, insta lock Battleships at 100km from gate waitting for enemy fleet
and when the fleet jumps in it get ruthlesly insta gankked by sniper swarms even whitout chanse of retaliating, jamming or even lockking the target ¿
