Edited by: Dynamite Dan on 10/09/2004 19:08:29 This is the third time I've lost hours of training time because of server crashes.
When the server goes down like this why can't we have an option to start a new skill training via the web? Make it only available in these situations. When the server comes back up - disable the web-based training option.
EDIT - a realise most advanced players wont be effected by server crashes as far skill trianing is concerned as most of them will probably be training long skills.... but for us newer players its a pain because we're usually training shorter skills. Sods law the server snuffs it when my level 1 or 2 skill is about to complete

i dont know if its that simple, but perhaps an online emergancy database to manage skills that the server appends to its files in the event of a crash, even then it wud take soem doing, and you know how slow ccp move __________________________________________________

Hmmm well I may be wrong but aint the skills stored someplace else? Otherwise we'd all lose an hours training time during D/T yes?

I disagree (and yes - i'm a long-term player). Why should anyone be able to play the game without actually playing it?
And besides - its not as if ur losing that much training because the server's broken - even if is like 2 hours.
Compare that 2 hours to a full year of training - hardly anything is it?
Besides i read this exact same post last week... http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=107319
And...

Skills are not going to be queued, nor are they going to be selectable by web, it will not be possible to train two skills on 1 character for an account upgrade, nor will it be possible to train 2 skills on 1 account. All these things have been discussed long ago and rejected. The skill system is in place for a variety of reasons, ranging from immersion to exploitability prevention.
In short, any changes to the skill system that simplify training to the point that the game trains everything for you, or allows you to train more than 1 skill at a time are not going to happen.

It's a SAN. Nothing happens to the data, but without a Server to use it it's useless. And if a server is accessing it then the main cluster can't come back up.
Your skills advance because they have a timestamp saying when they started and how many sp's to complete it. Nothing more than that.

Because I'm paying for it. Players that set really long skills training then cancel their accounts for a month or two gain skill points without even paying CCP!

Its a lot to a new player. The last time the server went down it was a fatal crash - down for more than six hours as far as I can remember. Thats a lot to a noob player - but like you said, you're a long-term player so you don't give a damn about the new players concerns anyway
