Originally by: HawkBlade Of course, alternately, these people who are saying "trust no one" and "I'll never invest" sure spend alot of time with their noses in investment threads.
Or we are trying to learn from here.
I know I'm speaking for myself , but not investing (I've stated my reasons elsewhere) and not being useful can be quite different.
I like to think I add some value.

Well said. Forum fu sometimes leads to bombastic and inflammatory statements. Especially on my part. My apologies if my statement caused you any pause. Please consider such statements as nothing more than the obligatory jab, not a specific attack.
If forum posts got me angry I would have been gone the same day I showed up.
That was more of a counterpoint.

Originally by: Aidan Brooder Anyway... It is not a few - very obvious û pseudo-scam or real scam postings IMHO that drive people away from the MD forums. I probably could have summed it up in that one sentence. I'm just a newbie that talks too much, perhaps.
I think you missed the point that after a gradual, over many years, move to a system where people only trust the same people that have been on here for several years, two of the (four or five?) "pillars" of this forum manged to do some remarkably boneheaded fake postings in the span of a week.
You might actually get a 100 mil loan here, from someone just tossing you isk that's too small to matter to them. For things that sized, its almost always done from friends or corp/alliance mates.
What you wouldn't get is a 1.5 billion isk anything off the ground, since that's enough that it "matters" and not a large enough deal that jumping through the different hoops needed would make sense.
It seems to me that this forum is really suited to the 10 billion plus sized deals, and this is what the mentality is properly suited to vet.

None taken.
I think part of the problem is, that as the game has grown, so have the internal player communities that can (and do) loan money to each other. People don't ask for the 500 mil loan they need to get a (for example) small POS together here. They don't need to. By the time they want a POS, they know enough people to either start a small company or borrow money from.
The need that's unfilled is for non-superpower-alliance-aligned organizations to get super jumbo loans.
Without CCP including better share/bond/loan/banking mechanics in the game itself, its probably going to (unfortunately) stay this way for a while.

I think another part of the problem is that the rates in the MD forum get bid down so low for anything that's "safe" that it means there is no margin of error in who you loan to.

One thing in this statement is true.
