So I am traveling around for a new mining home and over 50 jumps I see nothing but secure cans everywhere and no ore...
Are there less traveled regions farther from trade hubs I havent thought of yet?
I was hoping to get back into mining again but this is making me stick with mission running.

Mission mining and Exploration Mining is where it is at, ignore the Belt mining.

I figured there would be less response to this question since current miners are coveting their mining fields but compared to when I was a dedicated miner back in 2006 there seems to be fewer and fewer areas to actually mine now days.

Just to clarify, I think we both mean that the most reliable source of asteroids to mine is in missions, i.e. mission mining, not "missioning" as in doing missions. You can do this simply by asking a lvl 1 agent for a mission. I believe the mission guide website now has an ongoing list of missions with asteroids to help aspiring mission miners like yourself.

Well if you are truly annoyed in mining overpopulated belts evemail me in game under "nautix" and i'll give you some system that I used to mine in before I sold my miner. I was never a big fan of mission mining so I allways had a few systems where the belts were nice.

Most miners are going to keep their favorite spots a secret due to the large amount of overmining going on out there. No reason to give away ones favorite hunting ground.
But yes, get as far away from trading hubs as possible and you have a better chance of finding some fertile ore fields. And an even better chance in systems without a station in them. Failing that, exploration mining. I found a nice Kernite, Omber and Jaspet ore field yesterday that it took my Alliance some time to mine out.
But, i'm trying out mission mining for a while to see how it works out.

Stay out of Caldari space. Period. The End.
Try Khanid/Ammatar. Severely underpopulated.
At the very least get 6+ jumps from any hub or any system with traffic of 75+ pilots.
If you're out in the boondocks somewhere, consider training a freighter alt or contact Red Frog Freight (or any other freighter company). Very reasonable rates for long distance hauling. Just pile up the minerals as fast as you can and call in the freighters periodically. As for "reducing your margins" by being way out nowhere, it beats reducing your margins because you're mining less while searching for roids.
Mission mining is great, but has its limits. No real selection of good ores. Mostly veld and scordite, with some plagiocase and omber. Most aren't the good versions (golden, dense, etc.). That said, its very reliable and its relatively safe to jetcan mine. If you're in Caldari space (or near dodixie), be prepared for pirates, ninjas, griefers, and others. |

I won't tell you my favorite system -- which is in Caldari space -- but I'll tell you how I found it.
Open the map. Set for #pilots docked and active.
Look at the quietest systems.
Reset for #pilots in space.
Look at the quietest systems.
Look for places with only 1-3 jump gates.
Look for the lowest security you can mine in without getting popped by belt rats (a solo retriever will handle .6 if your skills are good but will get beat up by .5 rats if you don't have the skills for T2 drones).
Good luck. |

+1
Find a system with lots of level 1 agents that you can get access to, farm them for "Break Their Will" - more Veldspar and Scordite than a single retriever can mine in a sitting, and it's all yours for a week.

Veldspar, the only thing to mine, is all over the place. Or are you not tracking your mining to the current market and trying to find huge time waster and profit losers like Golden Omber?

Step 1: Buy Drake/Myrm. Step 2: Buy Medium Tower + Medium Intensive Refinery. Step 3: Find Class 2 WH space and set up shop. Step 4: Clear rats out of Gravi site and mine ABC till your hair falls out. _________________________________________________________

Ya I see you dont like Mission mining its not my thing ether though I have done it.
Use the tip given for finding a spot in caldire and use it to find a Nice spot in Amarr space. Its Vast.
Also class 2 wh mining is very profitable and more interaning. If you have the skills and start capital isk for geting everything needed. For grav site's level 3 probing skills and tech 1 scaning frig is working for me but I am very good with prob placement and paticent. Better skills/beter tech 2 scaning frig faster easyer time of scaning down grave sites and being able to scan down beter grave sites. Dont bother mining anything thats not lowsec or null sec as your limited to space and refiner and what you can hual in and out in a day. jetcan trit and otehr high sec mins. Haul out your mins haul back your fuels.

Sorry but Khanid, Kador, and Kor-Azor are always mined out. People log into mining alts for ops after reset and clear the belts.
The best places Ive found to mine were high-sec area's that were only accessible through low-sec. Caldari isnt bad, you just have to find the right places. For example, in Black rise you have two high sec no-station systems next to Onnamon that are only mined by 1 hulk daily.
In Lonetrek you have the Uesuro-Endatoh systems which have low-sec belts (Big 110-150 veld roids). I havent been to Ossa area in lonetrek but im sure thats under-mined as well.

use http://www.fluidorbit.co.uk/. search a region you want to mine it. sort it by security, and find a system no station that is in a .5 or higher (some .45xxx are still highsec as it rounds up to near digit). I find that those system without stations usually have large asteroids that no one mines because there are no stations.
