Has anyone tried using the new strategic cruisers for running hi-sec cosmos complexes or missions etc? If so, can you give us some comparison to tech II ships? Just wondering if it might be worth the cost.

We're building a tengu fleet for our wormhole operation. it will probably become my new lvl5 tank aswell, definitly an candidate for speed running lvl4's. Price tag is completly crazy though so I understand that people are doubting still.

will not work, the passive tank is prenerfed too much and active doesn't work for L5 It is great for L4's though, definitely better than NH

How is it prenerfed? Playing with EFT I got a Tengu to over a 2K passive tank. Is there something I'm missing?

was it omni-tanked or for some specific npc damage profile? I mean, on the testserver before the release of apoc tengu had a crazy passive tank, which was nerfed two ways at once - by giving the shield subsys about double recharge time and cutting max number of lowslots to 5. As for L5, you can tank full passive tengu quite well to guristas/serpentis/gallente damage types. But you can do this with onyx, vultute, nighthawk or ishtar as well. And the last two will output comparable dps in the tanked mode, so there is no real gain in using tengu. My L5 setup is fully passive tank + passive nighthawk with shield resist ganglink and shield mindlink

Off topic I know, but what are the payouts on L5's?

Level 5 missions can give up to 76000 LP confirmed per mission. DPS is 2500 to 4500 MAD CRAZY cap drain Pirate heaven to find you If you buy navy issue frigates, build them and sell them for 20-35M each and salvage and complete on time then payout is around 100M for a 60000 LP+ mission.
VERY HIGH RISK to do in lowsec.
Active tanking will NOT work period. Highly skilled active tank raven will be cap drained in less than 30 seconds on some missions.
T3 ships are great for level 4s from what I have seen of there stats, but using them for level 5 would be a mistake. |

Marauders and faction BS are still much better than t3 cruisers for lvl 4 missioning. the t3 cruisers just lack ranged damage. So theyre still definitely not worth the cost, unless you make some weird salvage t3 cruiser maybe, and dont have skills for a marauder yet. |

You could build an amazing cov ops ship t3 cruiser. Immune to bubbles + use of cov ops cloak is just... amazing. |

If you plan to do level 5 missions I would go for Nighthawk instead of Tengu. You get slightly better performance for 1/10th of price that way. You see you do need that slightly thicker buffer nighthawk has. |

He said highsec cosmos/complexes not lvl 5s, you're right of course but still
On the other hand, theory crafting, the tengus dps while passive tanked should be above the nighthawks. Personally i wouldnt use this multi billion isk ship (plus the effing fitting cost) for high sec, if you reall, really pimp it it can get an active tank of 3k dps while dealing 700, it practically built for 7-8/10 0.0 complexes. |

Thanks for all the answers folks. I probably should have been more clear about what I was looking for.
I was mainly looking for a ship that I could solo explore sites in. Probably would start in highsec just to get the feel and kick over a few sites. Probably take it out to low sec later to do some smash and grabs. I think it would be great for running sites there. Except, of course that blowing through a gate camp in a Loki would probably be tantamount to driving an ice cream truck through a camp for fat kids.
Any way, was mainly interested in knowing if anyone has encountered any restrictions for using a strat cruiser in any of the high sec sites. Would hate to blow all that money just to find all the dam gates locking them out. |
