Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
It's a "love it or hate it" situation, and the first couple of episodes aren't really helping (give it to about 4th episode the very least before you make up your mind).

I watched one episode of full metal alchemist - it looked like naazi youth indoctrination combined with pokemon. I would not recomend such mind alternating material to anyone.

Edited by: Healing Care on 27/06/2009 13:11:40 Kara no Kyoukai (a must-see, beautiful animation/music) Mnemosyne (kinda like Elfenlied, but more mature and cyberpunk elements) Hellsing Ultimate (best vampire series there is, totally gory) Ghost in the Shell (classic, there are bluray rips out now) Gundam 00 (newest gundam series, available in 720p/1080p) Code Geass (voted best anime many many times) Macross Frontier (newest Macross series, nice music/singing) Ergo Proxy (SciFi/Cyberpunk/Brain****) Black Lagoon ("realistic" setting, bout mercenary crew of a gunboat) Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuuutsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, kinda slice-of-life, school life anime but in a very twisted way. DAMN good anime, a definite must-see)
Torrents are a better source overall, though. Legit torrents of course... cough.

I always consider recommending Ruroni Kenshin, I'm not sure why I always choose not to though. It is certainly one of my favorite series. I guess I just wanna keep 'em all for myself .

tbh RK is a bit depressing if you watch the OAV's and explore the story beyond the original 95 tv episode series.
How all it started, and specially how all it ended makes me put the OAV's a couple of tiers down Saikano and Grave of Fireflies, in terms of depressing stories (wich is alot tbh, both must be the most depressing stuff I ever saw, and I even saw Now and Then, Here and There). Maybe it's because of that that you don't recommend it? "oh hey, these series are awesome, but it gets depressing to the end so you'll probably watch it only once." |

Lol, maybe. I also considered recomending Now and Then, Here and There but nixed that as well. But then again I recomend Beserk and Elfin Lied every chance I get. *shrug*

*spoilers below*
if memory doesn't fail me, there are 2 series of OAV's. One covers how he began, and the final one how he died.
both are not happy stories tbh, altho at least in the end he didn't died a miserable death.
there is also a movie which is chronologically situated in the middle of the tv series.
/end spoilers ---
