Edited by: Kessiaan on 04/06/2009 03:06:10 OK, for all of you who are still running with the default overview appearance since CCP changed everything around for absolutely no reason a few weeks ago, please follow these simple steps:
1) Open your overview settings 2) Go to the appearance tab 3) Move "Pilot is an Outlaw" and "Pilot has a security status below 0" down below "Pilot has bad standing" 4) Enjoy playing EvE and not shooting blues, your corpmates, your fellow alliance people, or other militia members because "OMG RED FLASHY"
Thank you and have a nice day.

Good post. Not sure why it was changed, unless it was just for CCP to get some lulz watching fleet mates blow each other up ;p

We had an issue where allies almost got shot because the skull icon was covering the blue square w/the white cross. Happened with reds too, so we got rid of all skull icons immediately.

I must be missing something. The tab where you check a box if you want something on the overview doesn't permit me to change the order of precedence. The next tab does, but doesn't affect what's on the overview, but only what color its icon is assigned. How do I get only reds of any standing on the overview, without also getting blue outlaws on it? (and vice versa)

You can't. The current filter system is bull****. The way it works is like this:
(For every rule in the state filter rules):
If rule is True Then If rule is checked Then show object in overview If rule is not checked Then hide object in overview If rule is Not True Then Skip rule completely and go to next rule
So even if you checked "Pilot is an outlaw", but unchecked "Pilot has good standing", and that an alliance player becomes Outlawed, he won't show in the overview because he has a good standing.

Since the topic is up, i just have to ask:
Isn't there also something linked to the neutral state (or "pilot has a neutral standing") being an achor-point with all ships being treated as neutral?
That explanation is a bit jiffy, but let me illustrate it with an example. Pre-QR (or some other remotely recent patch, i can't swear it was QR, but i think it was) i had several tabs up and one of them set as a "friendly grid" (to show only gangmates, for example). It was handy for several reasons (logistics, positioning...) to just keep track of our own guys (positioning on grid, or distance/speed values in the overview). Ever since they began fiddling with the overview my setting went borked and i haven't been able to replicate it. I've tried playing around with it without much result, resetting the states and only chalking up gangmates, moving the the appearance etc. Any attempt at a "friendly grid" just results in a blank overview.
So am i doing something wrong, and you can actually setup a friendly grid without involving neutrals?
Or is this still tied to some sort of bug, revolving around the neutral state as an anchor-point so you can't show gangmates without showing neutrals as well?

A workaround is to give your own corp positive standings towards yourself. If you're in an alliance then ask your CEO to set corp standings to the alliance (else you have to set standings for each corp in the alliance). Sounds silly I know but at least it's possible to make 'friendly only' overviews.

Thanks for bringing attention to this issue. I accidentally shot a blue the other day due to this. It was obviously embarrassing and cost me 40 million ISK to replace the ship.

The OV for FW needs some work beyond the simple scope of things. The logic is not complex enough to handle some of the situations that come up.
You want friendlies, militia, and fleet off of OV. You want to show war targets. You are at war with a corp in your militia.

Yep this is a bit fail of CCP to do this without warning ppl I keep getting complaints in local from alliance mates that I 'scared the S*** out of em' (no friendly fire yet). Apparently this one done to save ppl in noob corps from pirates in the same npc corp. They figured non-noobs would be able to set it back for when they join a player corp, however, they didn't really announce that we needed to do this!
