Originally by: Diomidis The Scimitar has many "best in it's class" qualities for certain roles, so having a slight (and I say slight cause it's very strong in overall and fitting it is actually straightforward despite it's versatility) weakness in PG is nothing to be concerned with.
And by no way is the Scimi a worse than the Basilisk in actual tanking abilities: it's way faster, with way smaller Sig Radius (EFT warriors should really broaden their horizons) and better overall resistances...u can fit a good EHP shield tank using just one LSE and support it with a DC II and/or an invulnerability field...it's not like u luck cap stability with it running, and a second LSE would hurt your sig radius = one of your primary advantages tanking-wise...
In terms of "tank", I'd rather have two bait bassys than two bait schimmys; and so would a lot of FCs.

Btw there is no need to get a scimmy fully cap stable, it is mainly used in gangs to support ships with a buffer of 3x nothing. So either you make sure they cant break the tank of their target, and they switch target, you help him survive long enough to warp out, or he blows up still pretty fast. In either case you usually wont be needing to perma run your reppers, they will need to switch targets quite often.

FFS, it's rather obvious than in spider RR setups the Basil and the Guardian are vastly superior to both the scimi and the oneiros...
But we are talking fast roaming gangs here (I thought), and if it's quite rare to see decent scimitars supporting a handful of HACs, I guess it's very difficult to convince pairs of logi pilots roam in Guards/Basillisks...more over convince the enemy to bite bait bassy pairs (LOL)...
As of the scimi, and PvP in general, when I speak of "cap stability", I mean able to hold for a few minutes... I case of the scimi, it's rather easy to achieve this, running both MWD or AB setups with mediocre skills (lvl 4s)...u just dedicate more slots/rigs to cap recharge, but I think it has more to spare than the Bassy... didn't know we had that many scimi specialists here -.-
[Scimitar, New Setup 1] Nanofiber Internal Structure II Nanofiber Internal Structure II Nanofiber Internal Structure II Reactor Control Unit II
10MN MicroWarpdrive I Medium Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800 Warp Disruptor II Invulnerability Field II Large C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I
Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Expanded Probe Launcher I, Core Scanner Probe I 150mm Light AutoCannon II, EMP S Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
sure, i'm happy enough with it to fly the bugger, but i could do with... ~15MW more, for a t2 shield booster or to equip a standard missile launcher ~60MW more, to convert those large shield transporters to t2 or to use an assault launcher instead of the km-whoring gun ~70MW more, to switch reactor control to a pdu ~100MW more, to ditch the T2(!) reactor control ~150MW more, for a third transporter
i know i sound like a caldari when i ask for the biggest of these boosts on an already "functioning" ship, but i'd really love to use 3 transporters, pwetty pwease...?
in other news:
[Scimitar, New Setup 2] Power Diagnostic System II Power Diagnostic System II Power Diagnostic System II Power Diagnostic System II
10MN Afterburner II Cap Recharger II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II Medium Shield Extender II
Large Shield Transporter II Large Shield Transporter II Large Shield Transporter II Large Shield Transporter II
Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I
Heavy Shield Maintenance Bot II x1 Medium Shield Maintenance Bot II x2
// oh and boost the drone repair augmentor plz...? 10->20%, shouldn't be too evil. i would accept (much) higher calibration requirements, much like the probe rig. only then, rep drones can actually overtake 125mbit-BS - the scimi (and to some degree the oneiros) could close in on the overpowered 5+1 fittings of he other two logis.
// but all of this looks meaningless from the point of an oneiros which envies the scimi for its weight, speed and size - and ofc the other two for their cap bouncing. - putting the gist back into logistics |

I want an equal ****ing ship you stupid ass ****tard. I don't want to have to cross train into caldari every ****ing time i want to fly a worthwhile ship. YOu ****ing missle tards *****ed and whined until they nerfed anything nano'd b/c you were too stupid and lazy to mount a neut on your ship to counter it. and now your ****ing missles are the ultimate pwnage. And when i ask for an improvement to one ****ing ship what do you tell me. TO ****ING FLY A CALDARI ship. Let's just start calling this caldari online b/c you *****es seem to get what you want in this universe.
it seems that you just have a poor understanding of eve in general, minmitar in general, and the whole choose the right ship for the job idea, if you really want too see how there supposed to work, ie alongside hac snipers and nanoes then ill link you a good pl vid of shimmy action. the scimitar fills its role well as everyone has been telling you, i dont want the scimitar to be anything like the basi, the basi is good at what it does (pos repping, massive spider logistics/ why arnt you flying a carrier) while the scimitar does its role well, complimenting the minmitar hit and run strategy which seems to be beyond you.

If you're familiar with the strength of roaming nanogangs you will understand the appeal of a scimitar.
Its exremely fast. Might be the second fastest cruiser hull behind the stabber/vagabond. You can fit an acceptable tank on it. And you can dance away from the enemy while providing rr.
It could use a powergrid bonus, but its not dieing for one. I would actually be alot happier seeing the stupid tracking link bonus turn into something else that was at all useful.

Basically the scimitar sits base at 3/5 the grid or less of each of the other logistics.
The Scimi has its role (like the other logistics have their own). The PG / CPU are fine because it is possible to fit the Scimi well for its use.
Thus the question of improvement and the comparison with other logistics are obsolete and kind of wrong thinking, because if we had all logistics with the same values, the design of 4 different races woud mean reductio ad absurdum. |

Guardian and Basilisk got 6 highs to the Oneiros and Scimitar 4, Oneiros fits grid heavy remote rep modules while the Scimitar fits CPU heavy remote rep modules. A Scimitar got no particular fitting woes, even simply with logistics 4 it's easy enough to fit and perma run 4 Large Shield Transporter II... And in roaming gangs you fit less anyway and its speed, tiny size and good base resists make it shine. Scimitar is not lacking anything really. |

Actually I'd love to see that vid if you could link it. I can fly a scimmy (only @4 though) but I haven't ever done so on Tranquility.
I recall reading in the past that some people love the tracking link bonus, due to its ability to let BS weapons hit intys and the like effectively. Can anyone comment on that as well?
Thanks to everyone in general for the hints and discussions. I've been mulling Logistics V so it is nice to get more of the nuances of how the ship works. |

its to do with the bonii the grid difference,
Basi has more grid as the secondary bonus ( energy transfers) use lots of grid this is the same with guardian Onerios has more grid as its designed to armor tank.
As a shield tanker with only one bonus requiring grid, it requires the least grid of the 4 logi's |

Great to see a good sized Scimi thread! The Scimi is my favorite ship to fly and I love seeing discussion on it because discussions only make everyone involved better (unless you rage-quite the thread that is, lol at OP for asking a opinion question then when people had a different opinion than his he goes all emo).
I'm going to post my new and what I think is my best fit. You need logistics 5 and really good shield skills to pull it off. But like I said it's my favorite ship so I decided to put a LOT of time into it.
[Scimitar, Active Shield no rigs] Power Diagnostic System II Power Diagnostic System II LADAR Backup Array II Damage Control II
10MN Afterburner II Large Shield Booster II Shield Boost Amplifier I (Need Shield Management 5 for the T2) Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Salvager I
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Medium Armor Maintenance Bot I x4 (for between fights) Warrior II x1
I use this in FW, that is why I do not put rigs on it. (you loose too many ships in FW) Almost ALL FW fights happen on gates so a MWD is not really needed and the AB keeps the sig rad nice and low.
It is cap stable with either all 3 remote reps or local rep.
It seems to work really well for me (although I have had a bad week, check Minmatar KB.....eesh).
I think it's worth noting that I can also fly the Basalisk(sp?) and the Oneiros. Unless there are 2 Basalisks the Scimitar just laughs at it. The oneiros is good when the fleet I'm in has RR BS's.
I have a question though: are T2 rep drones worth training for. I have not used them and doing the math in EFT makes them not look to useful. But just EFT numbers by themselves can lie a lot. |

Normally you should be able to jump through the gate. Lag sucks, which is also why i would rather have a shield buffer than active shield tank. If you are on gates (you either should be on gate or far away), and you cant jump through due to lag, you also wont be able to activate your shield booster.
Also cap power relay + ECCM > cap recharger + backup array in basicly every possible way. |

I don't fly the scimitar when fighting large fleets because of the reasons you just said. (Well sometimes I do and it usually works out fine because the amarr fleets don't know how to focus fire.) My thoughts on not using a Shield Extender is the sig rad. Haveing a low sig rad is almost as good as a buffer tank (NOT as good, but it's close). When fighting a big fleet, if you get primaried it's my experience that there is no amount of buffer that will keep you alive long enough to get back to the gate. Lag has never kept me from jumping.
Can you post the fit you use Ferb?
Anyways, anyone have any experience with tech 2 Rep drones? Worth training or no? |

Edited by: Furb Killer on 08/06/2009 20:50:22 I always had armor rep drones so i could rep that too after fight. Ill post my setup, but i have to admit i havent used it since apocrypha (going to get one again though). I used in 0.0, and it was for the time half of the ships were falcons. [Scimitar, Default] Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Power Diagnostic System II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Extender II Conjunctive Ladar ECCM Scanning Array I Conjunctive Ladar ECCM Scanning Array I
Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Medium S95a Partial Shield Transporter [empty high slot]
Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I
I think i now would use something like this: [Scimitar, Default] Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Reactor Control Unit II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Extender II Conjunctive Ladar ECCM Scanning Array I Cap Recharger II
Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter [empty high slot]
Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I
With AB you can do some more things, due to more free PG.
[Scimitar, Default] Power Diagnostic System II Capacitor Power Relay II Power Diagnostic System II Power Diagnostic System II
10MN Afterburner II Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Extender II Conjunctive Ladar ECCM Scanning Array I Large Shield Extender II
Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter [empty high slot]
Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I
The 2 large extenders triple your EHP compared to a booster setup.
