Greetings Pilots of New Eden.
My name is Eshtir and I am a member of the ISD YARR team who are responsible for the Evelopedia.
I am here today to ask for your participation with an ongoing project called "EVE Mission". EVE Mission allows players to access information regarding mission difficulty and strategy from Epic Mission Arcs through to Level 1-5 missions for all factions.
To make these pages even better we need you... the loyal mission runner! We need you to add fitting suggestions, tactics, pictures, things to watch out for and much more to these pages.
Here you can see the template we use for these mission pages. There is an "Additional Information About this Mission" area where you can add your ship layout, guides and useful information regarding spawn triggers or loot drops from certain structures.
I hope many of you help us in improving these pages and making the EVElopedia grow and grow.
Should you have any questions, please ask them here or mail us at [email protected].
Thank you
-Eshtir

1. Is this the correct page to find a mission in the Evelopedia: http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Category:Missions?
2. Where on each page should we add external links such as http://eve-survival.org, http://eveinfo.com/missions/, http://www.eve-wiki.net, http://www.evemissions.co.uk/, and http://chieflobo.wikidot.com/eve-exp-log-en? Looks like a few are already linked at http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Missions_(Useful_threads)#Agent_Mission_Databases |

I think 'nuff said' maybe a little short, but I tend to agree:
As long as the amount of HTML compounds to the slowness of the ingame browser, eve-survival.org is quicker than Evelopedia, and therefore it is just more work to get the missions copied to the wiki. |

aha.. and may I ask when you are able to present us a more unified information centre?..
I mean, when will the wiki have direct access to the database (afaik the item database is everything but updated for example..). When will we able to view data of npc ships like you can at eve-info? |

Average bounties value: Average loot value: Average salvage value: Average ore:
That's the key information that would make these pages utilized.
What needs to be downplayed is commentary about what ships to use (we all know you can do them in a raven, so let's not have all that chatter). _ Lost in Space: Apocrypha Exploration CAS 101 Eve Musings |

QFT. I'd hate to have even more discussions over fittings occurring on a WIKI entry.
Unless you are willing to do the transferring of data form EVE-Survival, you will be looking at a lot of incomprehensive information on the wiki written up by new players who don't know where EVE-Survival is.
And even after that, people are going to go to EVE-Survival.
You can't just ask us players to do all the work CCP, we are PAYING you to do your job, and hire people, and work on the wiki, and stuffs, so please, don't ask us to do everything.
We can help out new players here and there, and contribute what we know/what to share to your projects, but not all of us have that much time and we would rather (I'm pretty sure) spend this time in game ACTUALLY doing missions and earning ISK.
My 2 cents, not meant to be a troll/rant, just a suggestion.

This changes with the new chromium-based browser in Dominion. Who whould've thought the eve browser could actually become useful..

Edited by: YouEatLard on 02/11/2009 18:14:31 Edited by: YouEatLard on 02/11/2009 18:13:54 Awesome, very awesome. I'm used to games that use words like "sometimes" and "often". I've never played a game that kicked out so much data for the player to work with. I'd say the Wiki is a step in the right direction.
Yes, we all love and will probably continue to use our Eve-survival, but I also like the idea of the owner of a product kicking out data about it. Couple of eye catchers I've hit that are worth noting so far: http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Missions_guide (this is a hitchhiker's guide to Eve missioning)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Blockade_%28Sanshas%29 (something more or less reformatted into a wiki, but even then, this product is hosted by CCP, does the job, and looks good.)
Nicely done to all that've put time into it. Please keep it up.

I'd love to see full mission rundowns on Evelopedia, as it's a central resource every player knows about. With the Dominion browser being implemented today, the added HTML of Evelopedia shouldn't be an issue, and frankly looking at the template the info seems much easier to find and read than some of the EVE-Survival pages can be.
However EVE-Survival already has all this info (and EVEInfo has much of it too: http://eveinfo.com/missions/). Rather than re-inventing the wheel, maybe you should try to strike a deal to share data with them? Unless the database is complete (which will take some time if the community is creating the pages) and easy to search (not sure the mediawiki index pages are best for this), it won't be used.
And I have to agree with others that a "Recommended Ship" listing is a bad idea. I find it doesn't add anything useful to EVE-Survival. Simply list the damage and resist types (and maybe incoming DPS and engagement ranges) and let people decide if their fit should work?

Having used the Evelopedia to figure my path on the Gallente Epic all I can say it its a f**king train wreck. There is so much information there that its overwhelming. I don't even bother checking required DPS tankable, I simply run around till my armor runs out and gtfo and regroup. I brought in a logistics pilot when the going got rough. I don't care how much isk, how fast, or what you did it in. I'd like to know about structures that drop, or where the triggers are. Who to kill to avoid getting scrammed / webbed. The fact I had to google to find the page speaks volumes for the usability of the whole thing.
Delete it and start again.
The way all the steps have been linked together makes it convoluted and really hard to get to grips on for what is essentially a 2 branch arc that folds back on itself.
Also, Eve-Survival.org, all it needs is some quicker janitors, or ones that actually use the in game channel. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

^^This, I'm starting to get into COSMOS and exploration and I understand how to find them now, but no cluse as to what to do when I hit the pocket. For instance Blood Raider Crypt in Garisas, I went in thinking my Pilgrim tanked against Bloods could handle the aggro if managed right...boy was I wrong. I was there over 1 hour and they just kept coming in, wave after wave.. and when I thought I got to the last wave here comes another. I made a mistake and got to close to the rats that I hadnt aggro'd yet on the far side and just about that time another wave of scramming frigs popped up out of nowhere and I got popped. Did I miss something there..I noticed every time I popped one of the bunkers or lookout's they would just respawn again. So suffice to say I never even got around to hacking the cans

Also: if you make this information available on EVElopedia, you could just as well add an intel link to mission briefings that gives the essential bits. (Be that info on EVElopedia or elsewhere.)

This is indeed an attempt to get the paying customers to do their work for them. This effort is doomed to failure because there are already better resources available and nothing worthwhile to be gained from moving the information over. Couple that with the notorious reputation evelopedia enjoys and virtually nobody is going to volunteer for this effort. CCP needs to step up their committment to the Evelopedia in general before asking anyone to waste their time on a thankless task with no rewards.

I don't think it's CCPs job. They give a platform that's all.
Since when is it a job of a gamedeveloper to give wlkthrough guides through their game/missions?

From a design standpoint, the mission page template looks a bit bulky. There's a LOT of unused grey space there, turn the padding down a little on the tables to maybe (at most) 10 pixels, it'll make everything look cleaner.
Now, looking at the basic information that every mission has, it would probably be wise to redesign the page itself to make the information that will apply to every mission to a box on the left, similar to this page: St. Micheal's Cathedral
You can see that they've summed a ton of information up with clearly distinct list items on the right side of the page. Take information like Mission Type, Location, Mission Level and Whether it's a part of a chain (and if it is, what chain it is, and have links to the preceding and next mission in the chain), there.
On the main body of the page you could put Agent Dialogue about the mission, Mission Objectives, Wave Details, Suggested Damage Types, Ship Classes, and any other details about the mission (such as rare drops).
Also, stuff like "Shoot until there is no red left on the overview." isn't really a tip. Just sayin'.
I don't mean to be hating on the YARR team, these are just issues that I thought I'd raise, I know it's a gigantic project to undertake, especially for volunteers.
