The title of this thread pretty much speaks for itself.
I think it'd be a cool idea if everyone's ship in eve didn't look exactly the same as their neighbour's, but I don't think the 'paint jobs' that are being proposed in other threads are the best way to help this because it takes away from the individuality and iconicness (is that a word) of races/ships.
Logos
A corporation logo could be added to the hulls of ships, it would add a sense of belonging to pilots seeing their corporation's colours on their ships, and if that corp is within an alliance that has a logo, possibly replace it with the alliance logo.
There would only need to be a couple of logos on any one ship.
There should be an option to turn these logos off if the user wishes to speed their client up as much as possible (in fleet fights).
Additionally
This is an extra which would also be very cool.
The name of the ship could be placed neatly below/beside the logo, an option to show/hide the corp's tag before it should also be present, for example:
"FOFF Hailstorm" (with tag)
"Hailstorm" (without tag)

oh yes this is a GREAT Idea, I like it!
Rendering text and logos on the ship hull should not be that expensive in terms of performance issues.
Another cool idea would be ship names on the hull.
Rendering text is not that complex thing generally, all what CCP would have to do besides this is to define specific locations on the particular ship models where to render the name.

I support this idea  Though if in an alliance, I'd like the option to choose my corp or alliance logo, not be foreced to use the alliance. |

it would be nice yes, but it would cost money to implement. money that would be better spent on other things i feel. |

Mayby CCP can spend their money on "better" things to change, but i'm making a suggestion that i'm sure a majority of the eve populace would love to see at some point. It wouldn't really take too much work to design and implement this, it was done in Planetside with the outfit's logo being placed on everyone's armor, vehicles and facilities they owned.
As someone said, it's just down to CCP fixing "logo-hardpoints" onto ships where the corp/alliance logo will show up.
Also, if a player is in a militia, the faction's logo could be put onto their ship which would be awesome.
