Are they effective enough in PvP? Can a SB uncloak, drop one onna group and recloak safley? Just curious on the role a bomb actually is useful. |

Yes, they are good. And no, you won't decloak, bomb and recloak as any good fleet will have you locked in the time it takes for you to recloak, but you can easily enough warp off the second the bomb leaves your launcher. It will land no matter what happens.
They are great tools. ___________________

Edited by: Crazyhate on 12/06/2009 21:52:31 Ok ill allaberate. SB walks into a system with a Co op cloak. Can the SB get close enuff , release bomb, and relcloak before getting locked? or is it not possible even with dampeners? Ah ty Intigo, good plan decloak, drop bomb and warp. Ty, i can see how effective this tactic could be especially if they have drones out.

once you decloak you cannot recloak for 15s so a battleship with a cloak/wcs and no sensor boosters will not lock you in time, and ofc any and all capitals.
Bombs are effective vs t1 cruisers and idiotic recons/frigs mainly, since their yield is too low to be effective against a battleship. A cruiser or frigate will have to use an MWD in order to score a kill (mwd = bigger sig) or you will be needing a target painter

You won't be able to re-cloak, due to the delay. We use bomb fitted SBs in conjunction with Arazus and Rapiers (usually one of each), as the SB gets close enough to drop the bomb we do scan res scripts so that the bomber can get in drop the bomb and get back beyond the target's lock range before the SB gets smoked.
Contrary to some opinion bombs are useful, if your gang is a bit low on dps and you are having a hard time beating a drake's optimal recharge a bomb is your friend, or just for the added damage if you have to gank and go. Also one of our SBs solo killed a falcon that accidentally got de-cloaked by bombing him. So they are situational, but far from useless. |

Yes, I'd say they are quite useful. It's a neat little circle, actually. What happens, and I was watching this happen last night in my area:
-Word goes out on intel that numerous stealthbombers are blasting people in XXXX system. People jump into small ships, frigs/cruisers/interceptors, etc. because they have the scan resolution to quickly lock ships [before they can recloak/warp off]
-Small gang sits by a gate, hoping to catch stealthbomber[s] going from one system to another or while the stealthbomber tries to blast someone jumping into the system
-Small gang is clustered up around gate, many not moving about...Stealthbomber uncloaks, lobs bomb, and bails
-Panic ensues, frigs get plastered
Quite interesting to watch, really. In the few hours I was on, I saw at least 3 frigs get popped by bombs. |

a single bomb is enough to take out frigates, and that's about it. it won't even kill sentry drones
but get a dozen or so bomber pilots? now you're talking hilarious dps potential against blobbed opponents --

Yep, esp as bombs are highly tanked to their own damage type. |

Align to something that puts you going through hostile gang, about 30km off. decloak, launch bomb, insta warp, harvest kill mails.

Untrue. My ruppie has taken quite a few bomb hits and they have yet to drop even past my basic sheild. Then comes 1600mm eanm II DCU II tank. You'll run out of bombs before you take me out.
Tho in saying that the last bomb hit for 1000+hp IIRC 2/3 sheild loss at most |

a single bomb wont kill somone unless the target is truly stupid. Might serve its purpose to scatter a fleet or neut it, but even my taranis tanked one while I was sitting on a gate. |

The main use Ive seen them put to, is for destroying wreckage at the end of a lost fight, to deny looting rights to the victorious opponent. That seems to happen quite frequently. Not a nice move, but so is blowing up each others ships. |
