Noone does. Why would they start filtering the internet and blocking out foreign media on election day if they didn't?
A whole ton of pictures from Tehran. Interesting stuff. |

Iran is becoming more and more modern all the time - I even listened (online) to a Thrash metal band from Tehran a month or so ago! However, it remains a illiberal society controlled largely by religious clerics. Was the election rigged? - perhaps. However, it was not a complete farce as "elections" in countries like North Korea and China are. If Iran continues to prosper, and the liberal urban population grows AND the country restores relations with the West, then perhaps things may improve. --------

Edited by: zenia starwalker on 14/06/2009 23:05:36 If it was infact rigged (most likely) I do feel bad for these people. I watched CNN and they were at the opposition candidates rally interviewing people. One young woman said that she wants Iran to be friends with the USA. That was kind of sad in a way because I know their current government wants to "keep them down" so to speak. Their current government will most likely never be friendly to the Western nations. More so if they keep building nuclear weapons. Most likely Israel will start droppin bombs....sooner rather than later.

when they said "THere will be no revolution" on the day before the whole thing stunk at that point why would there need to be a revolution, they are voting to work in the system, revolutions are used when people feel change cant be made with out going outside that system so if your saying that any revolution will be put down, your saying "we are blocking you, an when you relize it, we are ready in case your ****ed about it" |

The world is being drawn closer together whether the old men in politics like it or not.
The days of religion controlling governments are over. The world will continue to globalize, markets will intertwine, and human rights will slowly become less of an issue as equal rights are slowly given to all people.
It's just a matter of time. The old politicians cant stay in power forever, and the young people of todays society arent going to make their mistakes. We know better. |

well, the ones who will be in power will know better
still, your post is very true. just look at Cuba, and how they are (slowly) coming out of their isolationism. chinas also a fairly good example of some parts (market *cough*) but not so much on others.
still, its only a matter of time |

whoever was in charge of the rigging is terrible at his job, if you want to make a election believable you dont make achminijad win in other opposition leaders strongholds lol. |
