Edited by: HillAnt on 16/06/2009 13:35:40 Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a gaming laptop that can be used for EVE-online at high performance in conjunction with fraps. Who of you good people uses a notebook today to play today's high end games?
Do you use a notebook you are personally deeply statisfied with? Do you know a good friend that is deeply statisfied with his or her gaming notebook? Thanks for your co operation in advance : ) What kind of operating system would i want? Im thinking of simply windows XP. Are the recommended specs enough to run eve online and will fraps performance be good when i want to use it?

Recommended requirements will not be enough to Fraps well. I've got a Dell XPS M1530 which I primarily bought for Uni work that plays it rather well, but if you want to Fraps with good performance you will want something a bit beefier (when I say good performance I mean steady at ~50-60 FPS). As far as I know, the Graphics card (8600M GT) and the motherboard is the bottleneck on the M1530, I'm sure you could get something a bit beefier in those departments and you would do rather well.
Not a big fan of massive chunky laptops though, defeats the purpose of it being a laptop. |

For a laptop to perform both those tasks i would suggest looking for a laptop that has a Core 2 Duo range of CPU since for FRAPS with EVE the CPU will be a large bottleneck. Another thing to ensure is to get a laptop with a 7200RPM hard drive, since this not only allows fraps to run faster but is soo much better than the 4200/5200RPM drives you usually get.
For graphics card i would hope you get a card which is at least 8xxxseries from Geforce and a 3xxx series from Radeon. Hopefully using the naming scheme of x7xx and up, so a 8700M or a 4700HD will do fine respectively.
When you do, try plugging it in, since it will hopefully leave any power saving modes it has. |

You might want to peruse http://www.notebookforums.com
They have always been the best single-stop source of info for notebook/laptops of all ranges every time I've shopped around / done research. |
