Hi all,
I'm going to write an EVElopedia page with some helpful UI hints and tips, mostly for hidden features and stuff you can do with the UI which people might not know about. There are aready great threads like this one, and I have collected the UI hints from there and put together the list below. I was hoping you could help me by pointing out more (hidden) UI features I might be forgetting.
While tips on how to play the game are great, I am looking for tips on UI functionality (but please post your game playing tips here to help others).
General- Clicking those small icons with the 4 lines will give you a menu with more options for the item.
- There are shortcuts for almost all windows and combat commands, and those shortcuts can be assigned in the ESC menu.
- When in space, you can drag your ship user interface to the right or left to suit your preference. You can also align it to top and configure it differently through the menu icon on the right side of it.
- The onscreen location of your locked up targets can be moved. You'll want to find a small, white indicator that can be dragged wherever you want it to be. Your targets are anchored to it.
- Targets can be rearranged by dragging and dropping.
- If you double click in space you will manually fly to the place you clicked
- You can add whole categories/groups from the market to the quickbar by right clicking them and select "add group to quicbar root/folder"
- There is a compare tool. you open it from the variation tab in info windows or through a shortcut. When it's open you can drag stuff to it to compare it.
- If you drag the solarsystem menu icon (above your route) to any edit field, you create a link to your solarsystem
- When sending mail to your corp or alliance, you can write "corp" or "alliance" in the TO field and it will be converted to the name of the corp/alliance
- You can sort your mails by assigning them labels. Each mail can have many different labels.
- You can display the session change timer. There is a setting to turn it on in the ESC menu.
- You can list the meta level of each item in your hangar by displaying them in list or detail view then right clicking the header and selecting, "show meta level"
- There are filters in the settings tab in the market window. There you can filter out orders, but also filter the list on the left hand side so it won't show you stuff you cannot use on your current ship or don't have the skills for
- The search field in the asset window has clever advanced search functionality (see devblog)
- When in space, if you click something and hold the mouse down, you get action panel
- You can zoom better in on things by holding down the right mouse button, move the mouse a little bit up or down, and then hold down the left mouse button (holding both down) and move the mouse up.
- A lot of windows have a '?' button at the top that opens a quick access list of items and link to evelopieda articles and such on how to do things within that window.
- Blocking a character hides all future chat messages.
- It's possible to drag the icons in show info windows. In most cases what is being dragged is the type of the item. You can drop the icon in edit fields to create links, as well as drop characters in addressbook and items in quickbar.*
- Scrolling with the mouse wheel in amount input fields will increase/decrease the amount by 0.01 or 1 (depending on the type of value in the field).
- In many scrolls/tables/lists, typing the first letter(s) when it has focus will move to the entry that starts with that letter(s).
Using SHIFT, CTRL, ALT
- When using probes, you can ALT- and SHIFT-drag. Use ALT to change the size of the formation and shift to move the formation.
- Unlock targets by Ctrl+SHIFT clicking on them (this is configurable in the ESC menu).
- Windows that have been "snapped" together can be moved together by holding down SHIFT
- You can open many info windows (either by changing setting in ESC window or holding SHIFT down while you click "show info")
- Holding CTRL down freezes the overview
- You can split item stacks by SHIFT dragging the stack to another place in the same hangar.
- You can copy market quickbar items into another folder by CTRL dragging them there
- You can create a folder with all the material needed for a job type by SHIFTdragging a blueprint to the market quickbar. It's then possible to add the qty info to the items through right click menu on the items.
- SHIFT dragging a mail to a label/folder will add that label to the mail, but not remove the label from the mail.
- You can copy the content of many table-like scrolls with CLTR+F (the scroll has to have focus).
- SHIFTclicking an inventory location in the inventory window opens that location in a new window*.

Like they actively ignored test server feedback, just because you delete my posts doesn't make it any less untrue Guys, could you please keep this somewhere else? If we delete your posts from this thread it's because we are trying to keep it on topic and have told you where you can post your feedback... it's not here CCP karkur | UI Programmer | Team Avatar | @CCP_karkur |

Jajas Helper wrote:Andemnon Kohort wrote:Jajas Helper wrote:Hint: rollback the inventory system Tip: integrate the new inventory in the asset window
Save yourgame instead of face.. History tells us sadly, that such things are unlikely, SOE for instance, in the sheer face of user demand and complaints refused to rollback the NGE in SWG, despite losing 80 percent of the playerbase. To do so would require them to admit they were wrong, and that wasnt a scenario that they were willing to deal with.. Those that refuse to learn from Histories mistakes, are often doomed to repeat them. Our corp has already decided to drop all our alt activity if the inventory system isn't fixed, we are now spending 3-4 times more time on tedious things. We accepted the burden with having to go through the annoying invention procces- system not recognizing you wanted to invent/manufacter from a specific lab/array in a pos -> resulting in scrolling through all your pos arrays to find the right one. NOW they have made it even worse and added extra clicks and less organizable workspace in the process. Short answer: We're dropping over 20 accounts in our corp - most have 30-50 days game time left on them, and i think we'll make little use of them until this inventory is improved or better yet, roll backed. PS: this isn't a threat, it's the only logical response when you have accounts that are unplayable. Nobody will miss them, we will all enjoy spending less money on this game. Once again, this is not the place to complain about the inventory. It's being worked on (see devblog: New dev blog: Unified Inventory Changes) and please help out by leaving your feedback in this thread.
But thanks to all who have posted good hints and tips CCP karkur | UI Programmer | Team Avatar | @CCP_karkur |

Off topic posts removed. Please comment on the Unified Inventory here https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=112481 but the team working on the Unified Inventory is monitoring that thread. We know you have strong opinions on the Unified Inventory and we appreciate your feedback but please post in the thread CCP karkur have linked. Erlendur S. Quote:No, probably not. I will however go fairly far in implementing feedback that improves this piece of UI though. Feedback continues to be welcome. Any "roll this back" feedback is apparently unwelcome there. So ... those of us that want this ill planned "feature" rolled back ... which thread should we be posting in? You should post in the feedback threads for CCP Soundwave's devblogs:

~Z I am so disappointed...this is not the thread for the unified inventory and we have repeatedly asked you to post in the correct threads, and provided you with links. Even if I had had anything to do with the inventory, it still wouldn't be the place for it. I know people are angry, but posting in random threads doesn't help anyone.
Sadly I've asked this thread to be locked (at least for now) because it's just not contructive right now. I want to thank everyone who did contribute hints and tips , and I will be updating the first post with your addition soon. CCP karkur | UI Programmer | Team Avatar | @CCP_karkur |
