I was wondering approximately how long it would take to get to level 4 quality missions with a fresh character?
2 Possible paths, I either do it solo, or I group up with my main to leech. In any event I am wondering how long it would take approximately.
thanks

I was able to start soloing my L4's rather effectively after about 2.5 months in a CNR. With the new way that you can create characters and pick where all your sp goes form the start i imagine you could do it in 2 months flat if that is all you tried to train your toon for other than the basic learning skills.

I think I started running L4's in my Drake about 2 months after I created my mission character. It wasn't my first character, so I knew ow to focus my skills, and how to set up the plan to get those skills as fast as possible, along with the standings I needed to run the missions I wanted.

It can be done as early as a month- but your going to be going so slow you would be better off doing lvl 3's

this is true
what i meant to say in my first post was that it took me 2.5 months before L4 became more profitable than L3's for me. You can run L4's with surprisingly little sp you will just not do them very fast at all and the L3's will be far more profitable. Once you can fit a tank on a drake though you can do L4's it is as simple as that. |

I made a new char, shared lp with my main, trained battleship skill and was flying many level 4's solo in under 10 days (dommi boat).
You dont need much skills to run level 4's and even a new character makes better isk doing level 4's than 3's if you choose wisely where to mission. If you have done level 4's on your main - just bypass level 1/2/3's.
Level 4's are not difficult. Almost all level 4's can be done with 300 dps tank which is 1x LAR + resists on a battleship. If someone tells you otherwise, they are describing their own abilities not what can be done.
In around 10 days from character creation you can easily train to have enough dps (gank) to do level 4's and enough dps (tank) to survive. If you dont know the missions, read the guides so you know what to expect. The guides are flawed as they are generally written by raven fliers who shoot everything from warp-in point - ie can get less agro than that listed in the guides (ideal for the lesser skilled chars).
Most players talk about the bounties for level 4's yet forget the lp. I'm getting close to 4000 isk/lp currently while it used to be around 3500. I take missions that the experience noobs turn down as they have no bounties, yet the lp/isk gain from them is worth more than bounties.
Dont' believe everything people write. Read it, then try it yourself and make up your own mind. If someone say they are making 4000 isk/lp and you only make 1000isk/lp, figure it out.
eg yesterday I did 7 missions in 2 hours for 25,000 lp. I collected around 20 mil in bounties, plus mission rewards/bonuses/loot/salvage. If you make only 1000 isk/lp then 25k lp is only 25 mil and bounties of 20 mil ... but make 4000 isk/lp and you see that lp can be very profitable (100 mil + 20 mil bounties etc). I was runing 2 chars but it still works out very profitable per char if one insists to measure that way even though I still only missioned for 2 hours. And my characetrs aren't even highly skilled. I dont have a t2 ship, I dont have t2 guns, and I dont even have t2 drones on my support dommmi. If a relatively newcomer with low skills can achieve this - what are the so-called experienced doing that they need so much over-kill to do lvl 4's? |

if you are dual accounting start now, jump in a destroyer and kill frigs (or stick behind and salvage), and work up to a battlecrusier and then kill anything bc and smaller. I was using a raven (killing bs then bc) + harbinger (killing frigs on a approach, then cruisers, then bcs) a while ago, and having 2 sets of drones was nice. although I must say Golem + nightmare works a lot better now
as you are focused and a 2nd character it should take you far less time to be able to run level 4s then a brand new player, within 3 months you should be able to run them solo. |

most of the eve survival guides break down the missions into groups and specifically mention triggers. although the people with the zomg I can tank 900 dps, are a bit crazy imo. |

Seriously, that long?
I would expect a noob who has never played eve, and trains the wrong skills - still be doing level 4's solo in much less time than that!
Whats being suggested is a support char.
- Creation. - train salvager/tractor/cruiser/battleship/drones.
Now in only a few days any noob can do that! But a 'noob' might be a better option than many of those commenting above. Support chars don't need to be able to solo 'out the box' and can be helping with support while they train, plus getting that all needed standing towards the agent that is mostly used to mission with.
10 days training is plenty to spread about over the above plus some basic tank/gank skills.
The guides are flawed in that they make assumption like shoot from warp in point you get agro. Great if you have more gank/tank, but if you want a bit less agro, you can split it. If the guides says shoot group 1, group 1 & 2 agro, 9/10 missions you can agro just the one group if your careful, but it takes a bit more time/effort. Experienced players writing guides who dont understand this are just experienced noobs till they learn such basics.
If you have a support char they should be providing support till they are trained enough to go solo. If your a 'lets play it safe' kind of person then maybe you need 3 months to fly solo for level 4's. If your a noob with a brain, have done level 4's on a main, 10 days training is plenty to get to a stage you can solo most level 4's. Myself, I would be using the support char from creation, ie day 1! A support char will speed up your missioning by clearing salvage/loot and adding damage, may as well get use of the support char while it trains.

Also depends with what faction you want to mission. For example Amarr is harder to mission with than caldari or gallente. And ofcourse if you want to plan some learning skills before doing 4's. But most important skills to get are capacitor, drone, tanking and BS skills. |

Edited by: Lumtwiss on 21/06/2009 12:23:36 My record for getting a new R&D char up to being able to run level IV's ( level IV Q 17 agent ) is approx 1 week, training the right social skill up also helps a little in attaining access to the agent. Forgot to mention that this is leeching off an alt and with approx 2-3 hours playtime pr day.

no, not really, and you can split aggro just fine from warp in on almost every mission where there are multiple groups. although most missions are trigger based, and eve survival makes very clear which ships are triggers.

Leeching off your main it takes approx 40 missions split 2 way to gain acsess to that lev 4 agent from personal standings. 30 if you have connections 4.

That info will help a lot. So off to get some social skills trained and leech off my main.

Actually, social skills not needed till you start pulling missions as the standing/lp/reward/bonus is set by the char pulling the mission, not by the members getting the shared mission rewards.
Connections gives a small boost to your standings but no gain for any mission you do. While it appears to be a large boost from say 0 standing with connections, it makes a much reduced effect when standings around 7, and almost nothing as you get up around 10. Social skill increases standings gain by 5%/lvl trained for chars pulling missions. It doesn't seam to matter what ql the agent is as the standings gain seams the same for say a lvl 4 ql 20 agent or a lvl 4 ql-20 agent (with same skills trained). I haven't tested for a lvl 4 ql 20 vs lvl 4 ql -20, but I did check a lvl 4 ql 18 vs lvl 4 ql -17 within 0.1 sec difference and the standings looked the same.
Sharing missions the standings are split equally. Exception is storylines. Storylines the faction standings changes can't be shared - leaving corp/personal. Get a long storyline and I've had 43.75% corp standing gain from a lvl 4 storyline mission, yet if you share this it drops to half. Then look at the 2nd char you shared the mission with and they didn't get 1/2 of 43.75% but almost 1%. I'm guessing this is to stop players using this avenue to raise corp standings quickly.
