Edited by: Izkhanilov on 22/06/2009 00:22:05 This idea has probably already been suggestion prior to now, but I think it would be healthy to suggest again. I'm sure most of you saw the "RED Alliance" decal on the ships in the Trinity model reels, and thought it would be a great idea to be able to include your own alliance or corporate decals.
This idea, if employed correctly, could be a good one. To avoid dominating the whole model with a decal, limits could be set to how big you can make said decals. This limit is proportional to ship size ... for example, on a frigate, you can only place a relatively small decal, whereas on a Dreadnought, you could place a relatively huge decal.
I suggest making the application mechanism similar to what it is in Need For Speed: Carbon. You are given the corporate decal as a preview on he surface of the hull. You then have a window which opens with a scrollbar with which you can adjust size, and a four-way clickable "D-pad" with which you adjust position. This would be done in-station and the camera rotation mechanics will remain intact, mousewheel to zoom and click-drag to rotate. Of course, mirroring decal position could not work, because a number of the ships in EVE are not symmetrical. Also, to avoid people spamming decals and making their ships corporate billboards, a limit of decals allowed upon a ship could be 2 or 3, each decal costing 100 ISK to 1,000 ISK, depending on its size.
The finished result could look something like this:

You think they'd be any better if CCP allowed players to include stylized text, like you see in most NPC corp logos? I think so..
