In reading the Cloak/decloak issues in the common thread list, nowhere did I see anything about an issue that most people have with recon scouts and cloaks. There may be hate/love relationship with a cloaked ship depending on the side of the skill that you fly, but what about what you really want to know, Is the cloaked ship on grid with you? Introduce a probe that at activation and level five of skill training gives 100% chance to detect cloak on grid with you and decrease the percentage by 10% for each level under max so that at level 1 you have a 60% chance of detecting a cloak on grid with you. Also make the probe have the same life span as current scanning probes. To bluntly state that you should be able to de-claok the ship takes away from the surprise and the skills that the cloaker trained to do. Dont think there should be any sort of directional scan to a cloak detect, just is the ship there or not.

So move away 15KM from the mission/plex warp-in, put out a probe, and pulse it regularly so you can NEVER be caught with a force recon on grid? They have covert ops cloaks for a reason. Cloaks are fine, they do what they shall do.
Skill related chance to detect cloaked ships on grid turns out to fail: Ppl will allways skill this up till 5 so you allways will detect the hidden ship.
The suprise of an attack is allready broken when you know there is such a ship somewhere.
Let the ppl stalk arround using cloaks if they like.
If you allow to detect cloaked ships, you commit to prevent non-consensual combat by evading it instead of scouting, teaming up or building traps to handle it. |

cloak is fine as it is. If you would be able to detect cloaked ships cloaking would greatly fail. |

Edited by: Flapkonijn on 22/06/2009 11:56:59 I have posted like 5 times in the last month on things against cloak now. Why are people so scared of cloaking? Seriously..its a ship doing nothing and just waiting around for something Bottom line: You make Cloaking detectable...
1) Cloaks won't be bought anymore because their gonna be useless. 2) Covert Ops Recons and specially Black Ops would become almost dead except for recons maybe still being used as good tacklers but without cloak. 3) People would just log off more and make more safespots...
You nerf cloak you kill it!

If a cloaked ship finds you there is a chance you may move off before they call in their buddies (whether by coincidence or by good intel), if you remove cloaking then people won't buy cloaks and will instead resort to roving blobs and if a blob finds you you are screwed. |

Cloaks in my opinion are fine as they are, however your idea to detect them may have merit if it does not actually de-cloak them and instead tells you there is a cloaked ship of (ship's size class) within 0.25au->128au (the probe scan ranges). I'm not sure what you would could do with that information other than knowing it's close to you, and cloak/leave yourself.
You don't need to be de-cloaking the ships, as that removes the usefulness of the cloak itself. |

It would be nice to be able to lock a cloak down to a single Grid. or area of space.
I love cloaks i think they work well except. When you have one in your 0.0 system for 6 month doing nothing (Scouting ect.) There is no way of dealing with them .
I think combat probes should be able to lock them down to a degree. so that cepters drones ect could sweep an area for them.
maby a greatly increased cycle time so that if the player is online so actualy scouting they could easily move once in a while and not have any issues.

Cloaking is not broken, stop trying to fix it. And then, he killed the dog... |
