Flight of the Enyo
Here I was warping along a path just like I do every time I head to the Ancient Acceleration Gate that leads into a part of space that has become known as Dead Space, mostly because once youÆre inside there is no help from anyone else the only way in is through the acceleration gate and even then you need a key card which requires you to destroy a structure in the complex which is suicide in itself because it is so heavily guarded only the crazy pilots known as capsulers would ever dare to enter such a part of space.
I thought back to when I was a teenager and was I one of 3 chosen out of 200 kids in my school to go onto the Federation Navy Academy and train to be a pod pilot, one of the elite few that were chosen to be immortal. The training had been long and brutal, most cadets didnÆt even make it past the first month, but that was the whole point only the strongest survived. At times fights would break out between cadets but the Sergeants wouldnÆt do anything to stop it, they said it was just the strongest showing who was the alpha male to those who were weaker, And that in turn shaped our destinies.
The sudden deceleration out of warp speed jerked me back to reality; I spun the drone cameras around to see the acceleration gate materialize out of nowhere. But as I approached it I remembered I hadnÆt been watching the local com Channel and my onboard scanner, which is a big mistake when flying in a low-security system. I quickly punched the scanner and a Wolf came up on view a minmatar class assault ship, I had only ever killed one with my enyo a gallente class assault ship so I got nervous because being a pirate you end up with negative security status so it means anyone can engage you anywhere with no consequences against them, so I start considering my options I can either engage him and hope for the best or I can warp out and save a possible ship loss.
I decide to stayà.
He warps in and locks me the moment he can I start locking back and engage, he is quicker then me and has better range on his auto-cannons so immediately he has the advantage and he uses it. He cuts through my shield like it didnÆt exist; this is when I send the order to start overheating my weapons which is dangerous because if you donÆt watch the heat damage it can send your guns offline. Even with my neutrons overheated IÆm hardly touching him and his shield is taking a pounding so I send one of the camera drones over to his ship to see what form of tank he is using, I notice a slight shimmer around his ship which means heÆs a shield tank, this caught me off guard because normally theyÆre armor tankers. I get a report that hes hit my armor and heÆs making mince meat out of it so I start overheating my armor repair module but heÆs killing it too quickly so I make the decision to try and get out, I align to the nearest station and start burning towards it. Suddenly a warning bell starts screaming in my head and to all pod pilots this is not a sound you want to hear, heÆs hit my hull. I position one of the camera drones around the back of my ship and start seeing flames spewing out the back of it, I start frantically overheating all my mods on my ship just trying to gain an advantage over my opponent but in doing this my capacitor it taking a beating and my one small nos canÆt keep up with the beating IÆm giving the capacitor. I see the local start filling up so I hit my scanner again and get another wolf and a hurricane a minmatar class battlecruiser, at this point I know IÆm dead but I decide to quickly check to see if my opponent has a warp scrambler on me and to my surprise he doesnÆt so I just think for my warp drive to activate and it does. IÆm out and not a moment to soon, my mods couldnÆt take anymore overheating or theyÆd burn out and I was down to half hull.
My ship lives to see another day and the minmatar anti-pirate force gets denied a kill.
