I tried gate camping with a Caracal outside sentry range once. The fun of that fat indy appearing at the gate was spoiled at the revelation that sentries shoot missiles.
My tip: Don't use a Caracal to try and camp guarded gates.

If he should warp off, you have time to warp off too (else there would be no time to pick up loot and warp off anyhow) so the risk is therefore nill by that logic.
My point is that if you really take so long to kill your target that there is even a chance he will warp off, you are already taking too long and will therefore die by the hands of the sentries.
