My Char is 1 month and 2 days old and I want to do Lvl 4's as soon as possible. To lose the Ship wouldn't be a big problem, but annoying, as I will keep my Harbi away from PvP for some time and therefore at all times just can go back to L3's.
Battleship on 3 Large Energy Turret 3 Important Gunneryskills on 4, less important ones on 3. Important Engineering skills on 4. Mechanic skills Hull Upgrades on 4, Repair on 3. No idea about the others. Navigation skills 3-4. Drones 4-2 (can use 4 drones)
I want to fly an Armageddon and use T1-Beams to fight with Xray and Multifreq ammo in the beginning.
Will this work? What important skills do I lack? (except BS 4 and Large Energy Turret 4 ;)).
The plan is to first get the BS into decent shape for L4's and then take on the T2-Guns/switch to Pulses.

Sorry is this sounds arrogant.
But player skills also matter.
Read eve-survival.org and give it a try, as you said, losing a ship wont be a big problem.

Nah, I don't think that's arrogant at all, what you're saying is correct, player skill does make a big difference, as does having some idea what you're getting yourself into.
As for your skills, without actually seeing your whole sheet, you should get your drones up to 5, as just the support skills alone that it opens up makes a huge difference. Also, electronics and engineering should be both at level 5 simply because it'll help you fit your ship.
The most important thing to do IMO is train up your tanking skills so you can fit all tech 2 equipment. You're gonna be fitting mission specific hardners, so hull upgrades 5 is important. On top of that, training the armor compensation skills up a few levels are also useful, as some of those missions require all the tank you can get. Also, tech 2 large armor repairers requite mechanic 5, and repair 4, so train those too.
After that, it really depends on what you're fitting. Most important however is just knowing what you're getting yourself into, and for that, evesurvival.org is a must. |

As Toonces said: Hull Upgrades V so you can use t2 hardners, Drone V and Scout Drones/Drone Interfacing high enough to get t2 light drones. Level 4 frigs will scram you and that is what will get you killed when the aggro comes hot and heavy. You need Drone V particularly with the Geddens drone bay.
With a good tank and t2 frigs to kill any scram, you will be less likely to lose the ship in a level 4, even it if is not the most efficient. You can work the gank up as you go along. |

Eve-Missions seem to be pretty simple as long as you follow some simple rules (kill Frigs asap and the big ships last, align to something when you can't tank all the damage, take your time and rather warp out once more than once less ;)).
I will probably skill some more Droneskills before trying (not being able to tank a whole lvl 4 will probably not be an issue, not being able to get rid of the scramming frigs will probably be the bigger problem)

Drones is vital, I started L4s roughly where you are and gave up and went back to L3s since the L4s were taking me forever. Once I had T2 drones I was OK, though short on firepower.
Definitely need to work on your repair skills. Mechanics to V and Repair to IV as that will give you access to t2 reppers.
I normally find myself concentrating on taking out frigates at distance ( and any that scram ) then moving onto the BS to get the incoming damage down as quickly as possible.

Stratergy. Stratergy. Strategy. For now at least while your skills catch up to your actions. Since you dont have skills up to par I would suggest to doulbe up on your hardners(mission specific of course)ie: For Sansha Nation's use 2x EM Hardners and 2x Thermal Hardners. Damage Control for those wtf moments and a LAR, best named or T2 if possible. Now when you have read up on your mission before-hand by using the given website above(which is very good imo) dont go in there thinking it will be easy for you but dont be too intimidated either, just be cool and get thru it for now. Some of the things I did when first doing LvL 4's was set my drones on any frigs and cruisers I thought would scram as soon as I hit the pocket, then focused my dps on BS's, BC's to cut down on the incoming dps. Also use the drones damage type to your advantage, ie: if going against Blood Raiders use Hobgoblins/Hammerheads or Acloyte/Infiltraitor. Plan accordingly and you should do just fine |

I would recomend doing a few missions with a wingman or 2. Just being familiar with each mission is a big help , and losing ships along the way is just frustrating.Your tactic (stratergy ) of killing the frigs first isnt always best, because your taking a long time to kill them and taking BS damage the whole time .Also , some frigates will trigger another spawn or they will trigger all aggro .In general gunships are harder to master in lvl 4's because of range issues. Some enemies come close ... some dont . As mentioned earlier , drones are a huge asset .
Skills You Need :
5 good little drones Good tank More tank after that Gunnery support skills are what makes the guns hit hard , Go for them BEFORE T2 guns A little more tank
If its isk your after , remember that lvl 3's are faster missions and can add up very fast . I think your a little early to jump up to 4's , but..... I did the same thing GL |

I also jumped up to L4s as fast as possible. Here is what I learned.
T2 drones helped a lot. I started L4s just before I got them, and noticed a substantial difference. They are especially important for high dps pockets with scramming frigs. I almost lost my ship twice because my drones weren't killing fast enough.
If you find yourself needing to warp out, skill up your tank. If you don't need to warp out, skill up your gank. Ultimately, the better your gank the less tank you actually need, but you eventually want to be able to fit T2 everything and have all your support skills up to IV or V.
Implants and learning. Get cyber V and your learning skills up asap. You can then invest the isk you will be making into +5s and good hardwires. The implants will speed up your training substantially, and the hardwires will help compensate a bit for your lack of skills.
