Point her towards the Hellcats public channel ingame. Hellcats are an all-female pirate corp. She could also try contacting their CEO, Mynxee, in game. You and she would never have to worry about her ever growing bored if she ended up going from a Hello Kitty type of gal to a Hellcat. Meow.
Having her spend time chatting with these wonderful ladies may help her understand that blowing up internet spaceships is no more "hurting" people than checkmating someone in a game of chess or kicking their butts in a recreational game of tennis.

If she doesn't want to blow stuff up, I would say industry would be the next best thing.
Marketing takes a lot of research, and involves it's own form of pvp. It is also the single best way for someone to make isk solo.
Exploration could be cool, but to get to the good stuff, you often need to fight. Maybe you could to the fighting for her (Defend her!) and make a team effort out of it.

This!
If this does not work then try the following.
Not sure if it was mentioned but get her into logistics. As long as she does not mind getting blown up once in awhile that may keep her interested.
Blockade runners FTW. Excitement without the guns

Hey baby (if you happen to read this), why don't you dump this low sec loser and I'll show you around the universe. You can rep me anytime, and my standings are really high so we won't get interrupted anywhere, if you know what I mean. Come, see the stars, live a little!

That's one of the things that got me to play EVE with my then boyfriend. EVE is a very beautiful game, and even now after 3 years playing I still find myself taking screenshots of particularly stunning sights. Sounds like she would not mind doing some exploration. Take her to see New Eden with all its glowing celestial objects. Scan out some wormholes with her - those things are very visually appealing. She'll appreciate.
As for getting killed just explain to her that it will just happen. Kill her a few times yourself in a noobship. Let her practice getting her pod out and tell her the explosion will look pretty cool. Let her see herself that it doesn't really harm anybody if you kill players in game. May be she'll take to pvp more then.
NPCing and mining are mind-numbingly boring activities in this game. I think she should try trading or the corp stuff. There are many guides posted on the subject - let her read some. And get used to the fact that her play style might not be yours so if you want her playing EVE don't keep her in lowsec wtih you, docked, but encourage her to go find out other things that she likes doing in game, perhaps even joining other corps.

Edited by: Degine on 28/06/2009 14:55:48 Some people, like my brother, find a challenge in trading as much as other stuff. He just wants to make as much ISK as fast as possible. His goal is to get one of those big freighters. (He currently he uses an Iteron V I think.) He travels from region to region to check prices, move items, place buy/sell orders, etc. All to make as much profit (and as few losses) as possible. I suppose that on the way you would get to see quiet a few beautiful systems.
Should she ever reach low sec, you two could work together. She in a cargo ship moving stuff, and you could in your combat ship as an escort. Might be exciting for her to run blockades and gate campes this way.
Anyway if you want to make EVE interresting at least let her do something that involves some risk. Be it loss ISK, a ship or something else: if there isn't any risk even the pretty scenery will get boring at some point.

Exactly!
Are you sure she does not want to get blown up? Has she yet experienced the thrill of battle and the potential to lose something she has worked for? If not then you must let her find her way. Sheltering her for too long will just make things worse when they do go bad.
If this has been done then disregard the opinion.
By some cheep frigates and go roaming together.

She can assist you when you fly missions.
During missions, she can fly as your healer, e.g in an Osprey or Basilisk, to heal your shields (or armour) and restore your capacitor. Then after missions, she can help you with looting and salvaging.

This is very interesting, be sure to keep us updated!
My two cents would have to be involving PvP. Trading/mining only works because you know your own psychological limits and can turn off the game whenever you want. If you're stuck with your boyfriend you should be trying new tactics and setups, not crushing space rocks or punching market escrow into a calculator.
But whatever you end up doing, be sure to DO IT TOGETHER. |

LOL. I despise PvP and the griefers who participate in it!
That said... its a part of the game that makes mining fun. When I see a 5 jump route to get a new T2 Mining laser..that crosses low sec regions... I shudder and check the safe route ... 35 jumps.
So do I feel lucky?
Can I cross the pirate infested zones or take the care bear route? Usually I'll take the short cut to get the items...and the long route home, once loaded with 8million in cargo. If I spot no pirates, on the way.. then I may even take the shorter route home as well.
Some days you make it... some days you don't. Some days you spot a red flagged ship and your heart races as you shout at your plodding industrial ship to get its butt into gear and warp away already. If I get podded... sure I swear and spit at the PvPers and gesticulate at their bastard existence... but that's the nature of the game and I calm down in an hour or two.
PvP is an important part of the game, so your GF should not worry too much about it - killing or being killed. If people cant handle being podded now and again, then that's their problem.
If you want to take a care bare approach, mine in High sec..you'll make money, buy lots of stuff.. but it can get rather boring.
As an alternative...live a little, risk the low and null sec zones. Go for the ABC ores, make that purchase or sale in an orange or red marked solar system... and set your auto-pilot to "Take shortest route".
There are many paths in Eve.. find your own. "Ozone is blue and smells faintly of geraniums." (Qi, BBC TV) |

Since it is the new players section I will point out that you should not be getting podded in high or low sec very often if at all. If you ment getting your indy blown up and not podded then I apologize. But if your ship is getting ready to blow up select any celestial object and spam the warp to button. Once the ship pops your pod will insta warp to the object and you should be able to save the pod from there.

Podded in high sec once ... I fell asleep and was AFK .. D'oh! Ship blown away in high Sec - Someone stole my jet can ... I fired.. they fired back with bigger guns Podded in low sec (0.3)... exited a station, selected stargate, hit warp ... Beep Beep Beep ... Lock ... Boom..... Boom again.. awake in goo.
Only 3 times in about 6 weeks... so its not that bad. "Ozone is blue and smells faintly of geraniums." (Qi, BBC TV) |

She could look to apply to a Corp as a hauler or repair ship.
