Compare:
Pretentious: Band of Brothers - elitest of elite PVPers who saw anyone outside of their alliance as vassals, pets or fodder. Wasn't very 'brotherly' to their own members, and had a small handful of cult of personality allstars that everyone regarded with messianic revere.
Accurate: Goonswarm - a swarm, or horde, like that of bees ([OHGOD] BEES! internet meme circa 2006, courtesy of the Something Awful forums) populated by Goons, the self identifying title propagated by SomethingAwful.com forum members to differentiate people who are from/post on SA.com and those who don't.
I understand that having 3 or 4 layers of irony attached to a name like Goonswarm might be hard to comprehend, but it (we) are exactly what the name says.

I mean, there's plenty of fodder out there to make fun of goons with. Naming conventions really aren't one of them.

The difference is: We don't actually believe we're [elite pvp] all-stars. There are as many insults and blurfy callouts to other GS members as there are to Molle, Tub or Daira. You should see the Davedweeb callout thread. Good god, it's the model for hamfisted internet detectivism and shaming. Or the two-sided RoyofCa thread. We take as much **** from each other as we give/receive from anyone else.
It's all part of the internet culture we foster here, thanks for keeping it going.

Not exactly, but we are having a sort of  analysis about how ironic it is that kenny is invading scalding pass while we're the big powerbloc in delve and how kenny friends control the south and jesus **** it's 2006 all over again.
