He is both wrong and right. It depends on the console really. Some were made with a software-emulator while the one you have (just like the one I have, which is also an EU launch-model) has a hardware-emulator.
The software emulation went away with an update, while the hardware-emulation didn't.
This is just wrong, no EU PS3 had pure hardware backward compatibility it was only ever software only and all PS3 that could play PS2 games at one point still can now, including "Partially software-base PS2 emulation" ones like mine. |

well maybe I didn't explain it very well, but private sellers are exactly those you should avoid whenever possible on ebay. Also, the usb sticks thing was not meant to save your 6 bucks next time you'll buy one, but to say that the most sold items are usually repackaged scam in the best scenario. And if you noticed that 85% is not 8.5% nor 0.85% you should understand that also the "big super-certified" vendors sell crap on ebay very easily.
I will accept your 100 Millions for my answers anyway, and gl with your brand new ps2 _________________________ just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not after you |

yea I know what you are saying, probably did not word my reply very well. As for getting the wrong thing, I'm always very careful about what I buy, anywhere I go. I have the tendency (which annoys most people around me) of seeing everything as being a scam and am usually the first person to say "what's the catch?" I think I have Jita to thank for that.... (was young when I first started playing eve)
p.s. I was having a bit of a laugh about the risk I took when said I was with a private seller, but that's half the fun of ebay is it not?

What I need is a cost justification.
I need a game that won't take up much space that my wife can play, she likes all that medevil RP stuff.

Also false. The EU launch PS3 had the video processor from the PS2 in hardware, but lacked the CPU and IO processor (Which is funny, because the IOP was a PS1 system on chip) This necessitated the use of software CPU emulation which was never 100% right. Therefore it was less compatible than the other launch models. (and may have been dropped by Sony due to stupidly high dev costs)
The launch US/JP models had almost literally all of the hardware from a PS2 slim, and still retain full BC support even with the newest firmware. I have a launch 60GB model that plays ALL PS software to this day (including fw updates). |

Woah.... This is the first I am hearing of the PS3 Slim not being backwards compatable. I want to play some PS1 and PS2 games on my PS3... Do I need to find an original fat model to do this? This explains why game stop wants to charge me more for a Used PS3 than walmart is charging for a brand new one. |

I got a 40gb PS3 :]
25gb free space should be more than enough for Dust for the next couple of years. |
