After months of exploring WHs, surely it is time for ORE, or another entrepreneurial corporation, to meet the need/demand from capsuleers for a ship that is dedicated to mining the polymer gas clouds that are essential to T3 production.
Loosely based on the Hulk and other Exhumers, I would expect the ship to have a smaller cargo capacity, but to be more agile to evade possible sleeper and pirate attacks. Thye should be able to focus on powering even more output from the gas mining harvesters.
Any pressure that CCP can bring to bear upon the inventors and designers of these corps to produce such vessels would be much appreciated. |

Supported 100%. For that matter, why isn't there *already* an industrial-grade gas cloud harvester equivalent to strip miners that can be fitted to the existing mining barges? Having to fly a tier 3 battleship to get the highest gas harvesting speed is just silly and wrong. |

It would be really cool if there could be a dedicated gas miner. (Rather than an adapted Hulk)
Ppl LURVE new ships. |

i approve of this idea. and here is a idea that might be a easy fix, both for coding, grafix and soforth.
im using data from t1/2 Miners, and their strip miner counterparts, to create t1/2 strip harvester "applause" T1 has a prereq of gas harvest lvl 3 (maybe 4, discuss), t2 got lvl 5 as per normal. defined by gas harvesters
here are my preliminary data on the modules: t1: 135m3 per cylce, 2 km range, 90 sec cycle time (rounded range down from 2.25km) PW 10, cpu 12 000 ( 99.5% less CPU usage when fitted on a Mining Barge/Exhumer)
T2: 195m3 per cycle, 2 km range, 120 sec cycle time (rounded range down from 2.25km) PW 12, cpu 12 000 ( 99.5% less CPU usage when fitted on a Mining Barge/Exhumer)
these numbers are taken directly from t1 lasers/strippers, and from t2 lasers/strippers data: t1 lazers/strip: x13.5 m3, x1.5 km, x3 cyle... t2 lazers/strip x9.75 m3, x1.5 km, x3 cycle.
my guess is that this is easly accepted on the eve-cluster, and could brig t3 down abit in price. |

The Procurer needs a useful role anyway, so this may be it. Would also make the Skiff more relevant if it'd inherit the Gas Harvesting bonus from the Procurer. |

We dont realy need this anymore then a ship based on salvaging. You can set up a very fast gas harvester ship as is now. |

maxed gas harvester gets 100 m3 per 40 seconds 150m3/min
proposed t2 module on a covetor gives 195*3=585m3 per 120 seconds (292m3/min) |

That's a bit like saying we should still all be in our Thoraxs mining with T2 mining lasers. (Yes, I remember those days)
The 1.3 patch has just announced increases in T3 BPs and materiel designed to increase the availability of T3 ships. There is going to be an increase in T3 ship building. More polymers will be needed.
There's a precedent already set for progression in mining from T1, T2 lasers, to strip miners, exhumers, etc. The next logical step for gas polymer mining is a dedicated gas mining ship and strip lasers along the lines of exhumers and strip miners.
As Lobster has said, the code and math is already there, it can be shifted across.
Personally, I would love to see a complete new ship coz I build ships too, but that's a dream.
I do think there is a need for a fast, agile ship that can "dart" into WHs from normal space, mine some gas and get out again before the WH pirates can probe him out.

And I would like a ship that let me mine cloaked or harvest gas cloaked. Lets do this in its place :)

WTH, why the Skiff? It's already top choice of barges vs mercoxit, why not the Mackinaw for gas?

why have a dedicated ship?? just load attribs on those 2 modules to include mining barges and exhumers and call it a day? |

Frankley, this is in my opinion, not a good idea. Any significant increase in the ease of gas mining would have several effects.
1. Easier production of t3 components. Not really a bad deal in my opinion, the prices on t3 are too high at the moment.
2. The drug trade would collapse or become so unprofitable as to drive many booster producers out of business. An easy and massive supply of gas would do to booster prices what a ship with 8 ice miners on it would do to POS fuels.
Last and certainly not least, there is already an amazing gas mining ship, the Typhoon. With 7 low slots, plenty of high slots, and enough mids to support a decent tank, the typhoon can hold an entire GSC of gas and still have a good deal of space left.
If I missed anything or something obvious, feel free to chew me out for it.

why not just have a T3 option for gas mining...... seems simple enough
