I wish I could post this anonymously. It is hard to write and I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings. I've been invited to join a corporation. I have met a member of said corporation and he is a very nice person. I have worked with him, mining and we've had some interesting discussions. Here's the deal, I really want to join his corp. I am honest and hardworking and I think it would be worthwhile to team up with others that have some common goals, namely the good of the corp, while at the same time helping each other to make advancments. My problem is one of trust. I do not mind if someone is an out-and-out pirate. Even an ore-thief that pulls up to your jetcan and helps himself- at least you know where he's coming from. I am afraid of those who pretend to be your friend and wait for a chance to hurt you. I have read numerous accounts of those who have done this. Sure it's just a game. The pirates and ore-thieves, etc... have their place here. But the false-friend, the scammer... these I cannot stand. It is the main reason why I am even hesitating to join this corp. I believe my friend is a genuinely nice guy- I want that to be true. But I will never go with him below .5 space. I will maintain a current clone for myself and insurance on all the ships... I will never hand over my personal funds on the promise of some wonderful something, be it ship or whatever... And I hate feeling this way. Friend, if you read this post, I am sorry that I feel the way I do. I want to join your corp, I want to work with you and your corpmates, I want to be part of a team- I guess this post is my response. It pretty much lays out what you can expect from me if I join. I'd like some responses to this post. I am really anxious over this. Just me, Bad |

It's kinda like dating.. you hook up with these women and they keep screwing you over, but you keep trying until eventually you find one that's right for you. haha
So hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Maybe you'll get betrayed a dozen times in a row, but eventually, you are bound to find someone trustworthy

Its one of the true faults of the game having to worry about persons betraying your trust and scamming you some how, but it is part of the game. You can't play locked up alone in your capsule and enjoy the Eve though so take the plunge and join the corp. You'll hopfully be wiser for doing so in the end.

Yes, Helpless. I formed my own tiny corp with just my son and I. We have been training up our skills and have started mining together. He just bought an Iteron III. We are making slow progress this way. The friend that this post is about has invited both of us to join. I didn't relate these details in the first post, just trying to keep to the heart of the matter. I think the idea of jumping in- just giving it a try, is the right thing to do. The one who described me as paranoid kinda helped me see, I'm taking it all too seriously. What the hey! If I'm still welcome, I guess I will go for it. Just me, Bad |

Cover yourself. Make yourself in such position that you have nothing to lose. The thing I learned in EVE is that you can trust noone, except the pilot next to you ;).
I'm known to not trust anyone, and believe me, it paid of more then it did damage ;).

Badshah,
You have not mentioned any particular reason for felling this way about this player and corp, but I suspect you have one. Go with that feeling. It will save you isk and trouble in the end. Perhaps you should join a larger well established corp. There are many out there. These larger corps could be your answer. Good luck with your search. |Father of 1|Master of All| |

Well that's cool then, I would consider just maintaining your own corp what does the new corp offer you?

Edited by: Viper Bronco on 21/09/2004 23:20:34 see is a matter of trust on both sides. a corp that has been around as long as some corps have. has to be carefull in who they let join thier ranks. there are lots out there who act nice and innocent, they will either pretend be a newbie wet behide ears, or they are a loner, who just likes things certain way. a corp will look at them and say I would like this person to join us. his style is similar to ours. why not give him a try. only to find out he's a wolf in sheeps clothing, and 1 night when they log in thier hangers are bare the ships all gone, the iskers disappeared, or the pile of ores/minerals have evaporated. don't take much to hurt a small corp. a big corp can manage and get on. with much moaning nd whinning. a small corp sometimes just folds upon itself and dies.
so when a small corp takes time go the recruitment path it is a rocky road full of pitfalls. and they should be so lucky as to find 1 such as yourself who is honest and a team player to join in thier merry band.
see is a 2 way street. you not sure you can trust who it is ask you to join him, and at same time he propablly is unsure if he made right decsion to ask you into thier corp. what if you are the wolf instead of the lamb you have protrayed yourself to be
mayeb you should ask some of the others in his chat channel or in the space he inhabits about his character and his corps ways of doing things. look at the standings of his corp and his corp mates , that will give a general idea of where they spend lots of time. not 100% in telling tale, but is a start, also look at his work history. will give an idea where he has been peace friend, I hope you go where you will wish, and enjoy the game as you will.
ok me shut up now. just my 2 cents (oh and if he really trust you am sure his offer will be open for awhile, gives both a chance to se how other does)

I have never had any corp member betray us (yet) and we have 83 members.
if you want a trustworthy corp i can recommend ship builders - see kynaa. they are a mining manufacturing corp and good for newer players to make cash fast. Trust me on this
