As I stated in another thread; I was disappointed that they sent out 5,000 keys to random jerk-offs who didn't know anything about it and compared it to games like "Halo".
Poor sods didn't even grasp how to change their weapons but somehow we're expected to hire these people to fight our wars/battles...
I would love a beta key. I bought a PS3 just for Dust 514; and further more I have been eagerly awaiting it's arrival since it was first revealed many fan fest ago.
However, I will be solemnly pissed if I get my Beta Registration Key before I get my Mordu's Private Trials key....
It's amazing how they can dish out 5,000 keys to random ne're-do-wells but they have to give keys to Eve Players in parts...

Actually, that's sort of a bad sign. We need more EVE players to guide them through there first Baby steps.
..but really, it is a bit comp[licated for an FPS for some I imagine. It's not like the fitting screen would be immediately obvious to anyone who never played EVE. Most people idea of customization is, "what gun do I use?" or "Should I wear a Flak vest or a First Aid pack?"
It's something I noticed when they first showed the fitting window for the Dropsuits. I thought, "Hey.. those are ship fittings.. what?" Then I went, "..ahh.. should have guessed they would do that. " On the other hand, it will be easy for us to adapt to, and actually, the little armor icons make more sense for Dust than EVE given they represent a Knight, so it's not that bad.
Either way, I'm sure Dusties will get used to it with a little experience and direction. Eventually even the skill system will make sense to them. You have to consider most people aren't used to thinking that much when playing a game.
Look at how most video game players think of strategy. 90% still haven't got out of the basic 'sit and hide, then pop out and kill', or 'everyone run at them and start shooting wildly' mentalities. It's not like they really get it, and in fact, it's almost impossible to implement strategy or tactics as a group even when someone does have a basic understanding of it.
This might be because it isn't exactly easy to relay directions in a video game. Get that figured out, and maybe we might have something... hmm.. yeah, they probably wouldn't see emote hand signals and/or understand them if they did. Also, pointing. Even the games that have it, most people don't pay attention, or if they do, they get bored and wader off before you've bypassed the clunky emote in direction interface.
wrote something longer, but, tl;dr:
Dust is hard for newbies because they aren't used to skills and fittings for dropsuits, plus, I think FPS could use some greater ability to lead groups, rather than just a mic and keyboard. Ability to put target indicators on HUD would help, and actually, I'd like to add that direction and altitude would be nice too. laser pointer?
Actually, team commands that put indicators on team members HUDs would be nice to. Sort of like point and click for Mass Effect 2 to give your companions locations they can move to. Just something to facilitate easy communication and teamwork, and allow for greater strategy and tactics without having to describe a whole lot of stuff on mic comms. i.e: Call name on Comms and place indicator on field, (HUD), for all members to see would be nice.
Not really the place for that, but I thought of it because it's easily the biggest hurdle in getting people to work together in an FPS. Maybe this is already incorporated in some way. I can work with the gun pointing thing though, if anyone else has that ability. I rather doubt it given my previous experience with FPS unfortunately.
More often you have to just run along beside them or figure out your own strategy while everyone heroes it or does the hide and sneak game. Nobody is ever really in control that I've seen, even if it somehow stays fun and it sort of works. signed up day 1 of Mordu's Private Trials, EVE player since 2007. No key
However I have never gotten into any closed beta that I have ever applied for, nor have I ever won a raffle of any sort. I've only won the lottery on scratch tickets once.
I have bad luck :P My post was probably full of typos. I don;t care... |

Wow finally I realized there is a forum for this Dust thing. So I have to ask, I signed up for the 'Open' beta in Jan, then there was another sign up button about a month later in my account management page, so I signed on to that too, and now there is this closed beta that has been going on since fanfest, what is this abortion of a beta sign up drive about already? How many sign ups are you guys going to have, and then not give eve players keys to join? I have been playing since 2006, obviously I have no keys, but beyond that gripe, what is going on with your beta? Seriously the open one was in jan, now it is a closed one? Who is steering this boat CCP?

Yeah I heard that some idiots on the PS network got keys, are these the 5000 keys you speak of. And these same jerk offs broke the ******* NDA on the game and blabbed **** to the outside world. Thanks for that additional spit in the eye CCP, **** your 6 year players, let some ******* morons who are Halotools play your closed beta then blab about it all over the place. Once again CCP never fails to take a good idea, throw it face first into the dirt, pick it up and try to hand it to people and say 'what, what did we do wrong this time?', like they really don't get it. |

I bought a PS3 this week and an Eagle Eye 3 controller specifically so I can play DUST514!
Hopefully the Eagle Eye will let me use my keyboard+mouse FPS skills to pwn all the console noobs. Hoping to get into the beta ASAP so I can preview the performance of this controller in the game. |

My older sister lived in Missouri for a while, and then she wanted to go to brazil. so she moved in with me for a while to help her prepare, and since she wasn't going to get a TV while she was there she left her PS3 with me. I have not bought anything new for it because my main interest has always been Dust. I sit here continuously hoping for a access to the beta. Maybe i will actually use it for something.
