Hi I have resently moved to Amar space from caldari, and the damage I'm taking from the rats in missions there, made me think if its a viable stragedy to switch from active shieldtanking to active or passive armor tanking with my Raven? Does anyone have any experience with it? I know the Raven performs ok armottanked as a PvP ship. But does anyone have any experience with the setup concerning PvE? Atm I can only fly Caldari ships, but I'm training for armar ships so I eventually need the armortanking skills. Also I only have good missileskills, but have mooved to amarspace to join my new corp. |

Passvie armor = buffer. No regen rate on armor. So bad for ratting/missions.
But I would rather use some EM and Therm hardeners on your tank, it works fine that way.
Armor tanking a raven can be done, at the sacrefice of the damage tho (no damage mods), so imo its a silly thing to do.
I am highly Caldari specced myself with BS 5 and T2 weapons on my Raven, it works as well in Caldari as Amarr space if you just use the right hardeners :).
As a note:, why train Amarr whn you got a lot of Caldari skills? Perfecting the Caldari skills will surly benfit your corp mopre then a low skill Amarr ;). I am just saying. |

armor tanking a raven sucks, you need the lows for bcus and power diagnostic 2s, meds for shield tank, anything else is just ineffective |

ok - thanks for your responses - I think I'll stick to my Caldari skills, and work on the hardeners. |

Armour tank and laser's are okay for pvp, the word around is that shields and missiles are not. |

In the old days one could fitt this: 6xTorpedoes 2xHeavy Nos
1xWarp Disruptor 1xWebifier 1xCap Injector 1xSensor Booster 1xSensor Booster 1xMWD
2xLarge Armor repairers 3xHardners
But it was no point since one could easily fitt this and pretty much permarun:
6xTorpedoes 2xHeavy Nos
1xX-Large shield booster 4xHardners 1xWarp Disruptor
5xCapacitor power relays
And permarun armor for PvE
6xTorpedoes 2xHeavy Nos
6xCap rechargers
2xLarge Armor repairers 3xHardners

Then the word around is wrong - shields, lasers, armour and missiles are all good for PvP (though probably not at the same time).
If anything shield tanks are probably better than armour for PvP - as the buffer recharges naturally (and instantly when you dock), it doesn't slow you down like plates and armour rigs, and it leaves your lows free for damage mods (at the expense of mids for ewar). Those are pretty nice tradeoffs for Slaves and midslots in my book.
And missiles (rockets aside) are easy competitive in PvP - HAM Drake, HM Drake/Cerb and the torp Raven are all brutal ships.

You are wrong.
Missiles are very good in PvP. My Heavy Missiles, Heavy Assaults, Asault Launhcers, and Torpedoes rock pretty hard if you ask me, and my shiled buffers performes excelently.
Rockets and cruise missiles are somewhat weak tho, cruise misisles mainly since they have no real good role to fulfill. Turret sniping is far better then missile sniping. Rockets just lack damage.

A 5-slot buffer tank is often what you might fit on ships that are classically armour-tanked (e.g. 2 plates, 2 EANM, 1 DC) - so in this respect all you forego are damage mods. In exchange for this, you get 6 midslots to fill with whatever electronic warfare you want. Often this can give more utility that just a bit of extra damage from the damage mods with a shield tank. Not to mention that of course your tank is much stronger than a shield tank anyway because of all the attention you're receiving from allies.
It's about balance and what roles you need in your gang. You could make one up solely of Armageddons, and while you'd have good medium-range damage abilities you wouldn't have much else. Midslot modules generally affect (i.e. help) everyone in your gang whereas lowslots are generally personal affairs, so the effect of midslot modules is only magnified in gang.

Another use would be anti ECM support
You fill up the mids with ECCM, you've got a BS that can reach 120k armor EHP (Defenatly not a weak tank), with 250km range for 2.8k volly, and 156 sensor strength. 239(!) overloaded.

Raven's never going to be the best RR battleship but if you want to try then this setup is a good place to start (ignore the rainbow damage, think i got carried away by the not being tied to kinetic thing):
[Raven, fleet] 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Energized Magnetic Membrane II Energized Reactive Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Damage Control II
100MN MicroWarpdrive II Heavy Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 800 ECCM - Gravimetric II ECCM - Gravimetric II Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range
Cruise Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Paradise Cruise Missile Cruise Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Cataclysm Cruise Missile Cruise Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Cataclysm Cruise Missile Cruise Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Wrath Cruise Missile Cruise Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Wrath Cruise Missile Cruise Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Devastator Cruise Missile Large Remote Armor Repair System II Large Energy Transfer Array II
Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I
I've used the above setup for RR gangs and the biggest problem with it is missile flight time though once you get the hang of switching to the secondary target early it's not so bad, that said you're never going to be top of the killmail so i found it best to concentrate on the things a raven can do that other RR BS's can't:
- Fit lots of ECCM or remote ECCM and keep the falcons at bay, you won't kill many unless they're half asleep but you can make life difficult for them.
- Energy transfer, often once you're taking damage the amarrian ships start getting into cap problems but the raven has a strong capacitor and capless weapons so think about fitting a cap mod or two and keeping the apoc's lasers running.
If however you're just going to be roaming around low sec without RR then a shield tanked torp raven is well worth skilling up for Sig_________________________________________________________________________________

A torp raven in an rr gang,is sure to be primed pretty fast..Its a deadly ship, and a fc knows this and will call it out fast..Just make sure your gang knows this and have you on watchlist,so they can begin reping you fast....This is ofc for close encounter gang only..

Armor tanked Ravens are for RR PVP fleets only. Mainly for people who have missile skills rather than gun skills.
