Ok, so I am wondering how much isk is left behind when the average hulk gets suicide ganked? Its got to be so boring for them to sit at thier computers and mine for hours upon hours, so I want to help make the game more enjoyable for them by letting them in on some fun pvp.
/sarcasm off
Seriously, they look like juicy targets. What is usually left behind when a hulk gets blown up? Some of thier modules? Maybe thier cargo if they had any?
And what level salvageing is needed to salvage a hulk wreck? |

Not enough to cover the cost of the ship you just lost normally.. T2 salvage can fetch some isk if you get the right stuff...
People usually do this for lulz or to **** off macro miners. |

Oh, also meant to ask, how many times can you pop a ship in highsec before your standings are too low to stay in highsec?

will targetting still be passive after using the ship scanner? and is ship/cargo scanning not aggression?

Passive targeters keep the target from being alerted of targeting until aggression occurs Ship and or Cargo Scanners are not aggressive |

You got 1.5 billion from 3 Ore strip miners? Now I KNOW you're a liar. You can't get that much from type II strip miners. Type II strip miners are about 3 million ISKS apiece, so at the most you could get 9 million.
You need to stop lying.

Whatever.
He said he killed a HULK(Exhumer) that had ORE strip Miners that sold for 1.5 billion.
I looked it up and the strip miners section in the market has:
Strip Miner I = 1.5 Million ISKs each Modulated Strip Miner II = 4 million ISKs each Modulated Deep Core Strip Miner II = 7.7 million ISKs each.
So just in case you guys are speaking some form of screwed up English, and you are actually talking about the Exhumer(HULK)itself which is made by the company ORE the price for that is: 110 to 112 million ISKs each.
I searched all over and there is no such creature as : ORE strip miners, unless you are referring to the actual ship itself, but as for the Strip miners themselves they are NOT as pricey as that guy tries to say they are.
Based on this I believe that guy is lying to make himself seem like he mad a lot of money, when actually he made at best 9 to 15 million depending on what else he was able to salvage from the Hulk's wreck and other modules.
Sounds too me like I have caught another lame, eve, liar.

Anyways to answer to OP's question, if you're trying to profit off ganking hulks, always scan them first to see what the have fit. Also, salvaging at level 1 should be enough to salvage the wreck. The higher your skill is in salvaging, the greater your chance is to successfully salvage a wreck. |

Edited by: Taedrin on 29/06/2009 03:20:12 [EDIT:] had to post this twice [/EDIT] Being a carebear myself, I would have to say it depends on where you are killing hulks. In high sec, the average hulk would have a fitting similar to:
3x T2 strips (~3m) 3x mining crystals + extras (negligible)
1x T2 small shield booster (so you don't have to worry about rats) (under 1m) 1x survey scanner (so you can pick the good roids instead of the bad ones, or so that you can micromanage your lasers and shut them off when the asteroid runs out of ore) (negligible)
2x Mining Laser Upgrade IIs or 2x Expanded Cargohold II (say 2m? Can't remember how much MLU II's cost)
2x Cargo rigs (always destroyed)
That means that the average hulk has a maximum of 6 million ISK worth of loot dropped (not counting ore) Please note that there is a significant chance that items will be destroyed instead of dropped. I have no idea what the chances are, but presuming there is a 50% that a module is destroyed, this means your average hulk kill will yield 3 million ISK - probably less money than the cost of insuring + fitting the suicide gank cruisers.
However, there is a 0.0 hulk fitting that involves an officer small shield booster which is able to tank a triple BS spawn. If you can avoid destroying the officer shield booster, one of these hulks are probably worth a couple hundred million ISK. However, considering that there aren't any rats larger than a frigate in high sec and that an officer SMALL shield booster won't save you from suicide gankers, there is no reason for this fit to exist in high sec. I suspect that there are only a limited number of these hulks.
I presume that the VAST majority of money comes from bribes and the rare hulk fitted with needlessly expensive modules. The hulk with ORE strip miners, IMO, deserved to die specifically because he fitted such overpriced modules on his hulk. An ORE strip is a T1 strip with an extra 2km range. Note: LESS effective than a T2 strip with the proper crystals.
If I am wrong, someone please correct me. [EDIT 2:]I have no experience with T2 salvage, so I have no idea how much money you can expect from that.[/EDIT]

I equate Hulk ganking to playing video poker. In the short term, its a losing proposition as we lose a little bit of money for each standard fit Hulk. However, once in a while you get a 4-of-a-kind or a royal flush and you more than make up for your earlier losses.
The only difference is that so far Hulk ganking has a positive expectation value. |
