That's like saying the Superbowl has no longevity because there's a new one every year...
The last game isn't obsolete, it's as good as it was. Traditional model = buy a new one every time. FTP = pay for the old one over and over again. |

As people have said, a good portion of the MAG community is really excited about this.
I used to play Battlefield 2142 a lot, and I know a lot ot them are looking forward to it as well.
The true test will be if CCP can keep the community growing/constant like they have with eve. |

As much as I am excited about this fpsmmo, I have a ton of reservations. Some with hardware, whih I will leave or another post. And some with this issue. Sony is kinda seen as a "nerds" console. Look at its brand only games like Valkyrie Chronicles, the white knight RPGs, the first "souls" game. These are all, and there r more, games that are a little hard to get into. But awesome games. Sony is much more open minded. IMO. But the whole psn scares the hell out of me. I can remember when it crashed last year and could play mag for like a month. It lost all of its steam then. I play bf3, NCAA fb, madden, etc on the 360 b/c of its reliable network. I also play bf3 on my pc. But I love my 60" Bravia.
I am also interested to see if they will add the ps move to this.

Roll Sizzle Beef wrote:Ever stop to think tha.... wait, scratch that. That wont happen. So I'll just tell you. DUST's job is to bring people into the EvE universe. Not for EvE to tell its little community, "hey, we gots ourselves a shooter" It wants to bring in people who do shooters yet wants something more. Sony wants DUST so when people are in a store they can think, "Hey, I remember that ad for PS3 has that F2P shooter DUST, that looked awesome, I'll go with a ps3" (and hopefully by then the reviews and the game itself can prove that). CCP is looking for a new market and product recognition, and Sony wants more of that current market in its line-up. It's called war-decing the competition. And in order for it to go anywhere, you need to ******* undock and take a few shots.
they will regret that if sony gets the system hacked several times and customers accounts dissapear leave them with nothing when they return their accounts... yea that would be really great... cause sony wont admit they got hacked :) |

So having played Eveo for a number of years(shameless bragging) I just keep having this recurring thought...Are the non-eve players who will be playing dust capable of coping with the devious, evil, scheming nature of veteren Eve players? Can they make it past Eve players who will definatly percieve that there is a new flock of sheep in town to exploit, creating tons fodder for the C&P forums? I mean lets face it, can they handle the Goon mentality?
Im sure they will adapt but man...people that are not used to the threat of having all they worked for collapsed from an internal spiez and jst plain random Eve violence? Tearz Tearz and MOAR TEARZ.
Am I a bad person because I cant wait to read about it?
I think perhaps alot of self-proclaimed "elite" FPS adolescents thinking they are going to show these eve "spredsheet nerds" a thing or two are going to get the shock of their lives the first time they talk what they think is the usual no-consequence smack to the wrong person, and low & behold, a fleet of BS show up and bomb them and their whole crew's assets off the planet (god I hope somebody fraps it).
Please dont get the idea im poo pooing dust, im not. I'm excited about dust, and frankly I cant wait to hear how people unfamiliar with the Eve mentality percieve the harshness of the game we love and live in. |

There is alot of hand holding in EVE. Especially when u start out. But there is or can be a sharp cut off. But the world of FPS can be harsh as well. Most the time I can't help but laugh. Sometimes I'm the mean one. But mainly there is alot of indifference. And if u think ppl get pissed of getting blown up a bit; well, then wait till they get shot in the face rpeatedly by a sniper and loose that high dollar suit. |

Right now, when i play dust, i feel like playing a game who has mixed Counterstrike/Halo/Eve (for complexity)
not close to COD/BF |

Perhaps we are trying to same the same thing.
I was trying to point out the fact that people who not used to the harsh realities of a persistant universe will have quiet the nasty surprise in the dust universe. When I speak of the eve universe i am including dust in that as well.
As for hand holding in the beggining...It is hard for me comment on that because im so far away from it.
But the EVE/DUST environment does do something that I think alot of kids/people arn't used to these days.....It holds you ACCOUNTABLE for your actions and that accountablitiy follows you throughout the rest of your toon's career. Personally this is the fundamental game element that has kept me playing for almost nine years and perhaps may be the biggest game mechanic regular FPS gamers will have to get used to. In no way am I saying this wll prevent them from enjoying/playing dust I'm just saying this will be a big change (and im sure there will be tons of lulz because of it)
