So I was trying to compare a PvP dual LAR setup on both Kronos and Hyperion. These two ships are both blaster boats getting a bonus on the armor repair amount so I basically wanted to find out whether the Kronos would be so much better than my Hyperion in that department or not, in other words if purchasing one would justify the high price tag.
Basically this is how I was thinking: - Hyperion: 2x LAR, DCU, 2x EANM, Expl hardener, 2x Nanobots, 1x Auxiliary nano pump. 8x Electrons cannons (could even fit 7x Electrons and 1x Ion) - Kronos: 2x LAR, DCU, 2x EANM, Expl hardener, 1x Nanobots, 1x Auxiliary nano pump. 4x Ions cannons and one magstab.
Drones at the Hype's advantage.
At Marauder 4 the Hype is still tanking better and only does 100 ish less dps. It can dual cap inject, has slightly more EHP, and costs A LOT less (base price + insurance going).
The Kronos has the edge in the amount of ammo used, a better tracking speed, a much larger cargo space (as far as packing 800s goes) and the possibility to fit a full rack of medium energy destabilizers.
On the other hand you can drop one electron turret on the Hype, losing 100 ish dps and fit a large energy destabilizer, a possibility the Kronos does not have due to the lack of grid. Now I personally think the ability to kill any active tank with 7 turrets is better than firing with 8 turrets in my experience, but whatever,
So is the Kronos only better when fitting faction mods on it? Even Marauder 5 doesn't seem that great and I honestly doubt if the training time is worth it. Is the turret tracking superiority the only reason why this ship is flown over the Hyperion? Why not rather train for flying a Nightmare for that price tag I wonder?
Thoughts?

Hype all the way, because it won't be jammed by the EC-600 of a noob in a T1 fitted Rax as easily. Low sensor strength really make Marauders mostly useless in PvP.
There is one good reason to field a Kronos or Paladin in PvP still, their bonused web.
In a gatecamp, their ability to field two 90% webs is awesome to prevent people making it back to gate. Just make sure someone is projecting ECCM on them.

Ah ok, I stopped paying too much attention to all these double posts and other bugs (like this input window where you can type but the bar wouldn't scroll once you reach the bottom so you can't see what you¦re typing...) as it constantly ****es me off...

The ecm argument is irrelevant and always has been. Ecm drones will jam a hyp, they will also jam a kronos but the kronos has the space to fit smart bombs to counter them. Sensor strength doesn't matte either. It doesnt matter if it's 15 or 30, whena falcon wants to jam you it jams you.
More disturbing is the fact you have the skills to fly a kronos and are actually considering using one in pvp and still aren't sure of it's advantages. If you're sitting there wondering which is better you're either too poor or too inexperienced to pvp in a billion isk bs.

Well I think there is nothing wrong considering these facts before throwing SP and ISK into it. I only lack the Marauder skill but yes the rest is pretty much maxed up. If Marauders 5 is required to make it worth then I might just pass and enjoy my Gal BS 5 flying something else.
I think it is a constant search for a better ship to fly [in pvp] and I just wanted to know if the Hyperion I am currently using would be topped by the Kronos.
As for showing inexperience asking about the Kronos allow me to disagree. Yes you do not want to spend that amount of ISK on a ship you feel insecure with, but having flown the Megathron and the Hyperion or any kind of blaster ship if that matters is well enough for considering the upgrade.
As for the "you¦re too poor" argument well as mentioned earlier nothing prevents me from using these 1 bil ISK on faction mods for my Hype, the thing is people will lol when viewing the loss mail saying the isk spent was a waste, and the same people will laugh at a t2 fitted Kronos, with the only argument that the ship cost requires faction fitting. Although one ship is not much better than the other one, go figure.

Mids: x-type 100mn mwd (less cap penalty) Domi warp scram (theyre pretty cheap, only around 50 mill) gallente navy web 1x heavy booster / 800

Drones: Warrior II's and ec-600
ecm drones is so easy to get rid of, just have your drones on autoaggro/focus fire When his ec drones is targetting you, release your own - and watch them pop in seconds.
After that, neut him dry while forcing him to run both reppers with your blasters

OP is in Privateers, so likely fighting in highsec most of the time, smartbombs are likely not an option. And yes sensor strenght help loads wrt jamming, especially against drones. -- 081014 : emoragequit, char transfered to a friend, 090317 : back to original owner blog |

I like your fit. I've even started to do something similar with my Hype, 1600 + 1x LAR and Ions instead of electrons with dual rep/ dual injection.
More buffer, more DPS. Less tank for 1v1, but awesome for small gang stuff where the dual reps and little to no buffer can be a liability.

#1 If you don't have Minmatar Battleship trained. #2 You do not have Large Projectiles trained. #3 Large Blasters > Large Projectiles when you can dictate range. #4 You can hit 1500 DPS with the right hardwirings in this setup - a Maelstrom cannot. *** You're only as good as your last fight. |

Edited by: NeoNeTiC on 30/06/2009 20:08:57 Well, I'd either pimp the Kronos and go faction to really make it shine (you'd do it with any other non-capital ship around that price-range, too. Admit it. ) or pick a cheap T1 ship like the Hyp or Mega.
Generally a T2 fit Kronos just seems underwhelming compared to a cheaper Navy Mega. When both are T2 fit one justs costs a lot more and takes long skill training to be good while the other does the same without and is cheaper.
Having said that: I really believe Blasters need the tracking bonus and a Hyperion is thus a rather poor choice. It's just a massive brick sitting in space but DPS landing on any sub-BS sized target are low and some BS could stay clear of hits while hitting you just fine (given the other pilot knows his stuff).
Something I value highly is the bigger cargo on the Kronos which makes it a lot better when not camping a station all day. You stash a lot of cap boosters and do not run out after a few minutes and it potentially allows for neut-proof dual-injector setup.
Can't give you definite advice on which one to pick but just input regarding the options you have. I for one would not fly a Kronos wihout Marauders 5 and highly expensive fit - like a Vindicator.

Yeah a Neutron Rokh with max shield skills will outperform any Gal BS attempting to do the same thing despite the damage bonus on the large hybrids.
But this being said a Neutron fitted Hype with honor tank is pure win as long as nobody is shooting at you :D
But as far as solo pvp goes I would sadly max out the tank before the gank, which is why most Hype setups will have Dual LAR setups and pathetic dps and fail at killing anything. A gank setup will at least get you a couple of killmails before your buffer goes down.

Yes... and no. First of all the "ECM drones will jam a Hype" is simply untrue, I'd give it about 1/3rd of a chance (without actually doing the math) in the case of EC-600's.
Secondly the "one target, one falcon" doesn't happen much. It's more like 5+ targets, 1-2 falcons. That means the falcon has to spread it's jamming. Now consider that a falcon won't pack a whole lot of gallente jammers (2 max I'd say) and spreading ECM means less chance to jam 1 target. With 1 gallente jammer you'll 100% jam a Kronos, and only have a 60% chance to jam a Hype.

Its all down to rock paper scissor... If you had to be scared of ships that are dangerous to you:
You wouldnt fly:
Capitals, because everyone loves killing capitals
Freighters, because someone might gank you in highsec
Haulers, because you might run into 2 caracals in highsec.
laser based ships, because you might run into a pure neut setup.
Any ship, because you might run into a ecm ship with racials just for you..

Meh every ship has a place and time.
For high sec privateers stuff I would prolly go Kronos because lots of stations and whatnot.
However Hype is also fun and cheaper, you can go crazy with one whereas with the Kronos you (unless you have isk) will be more hesitant to lose it.
