As of today Jade Constantine has decided, for reasons that I cannot go in to on these forums, to stand down as CEO of Jericho Fraction, and between now and sometime in mid December I will be taking over these duties. Jade remains until, possibly, mid-December a full member of Jericho Fraction with directorship permissions and thus is still an important figure within our ranks. Likewise the other directors and members of the corporation remain unchanged. After mid-December, if Jade has not returned as CEO by then, a new CEO will be chosen (which will not be me).
It is not my intention to alter standings or war-status on an automatic (or even 'quick-fix') basis towards any of our existing enemies, nor to abandon any of our allies. However it is my intention to draw a line under any personal animosities (on both sdes) which by spilling out of game have led to my taking up this position - which is not the same thing as ending a war for our more 'friendly' enemies . This is not only for the sake of my corporation but also to increase my own enjoyment in space. People who know me ingame will know that I am sincere in this but will also know that I will not hesitate to continue an unending vendetta if that is what our opponents desire.

Athule, you have always been highley respected and I'm a little confused by your post, but I'm sure you'll do a fine job.
By 'no automatic fix' do you mean you are considering ending current hositilies with any current enemies or not?
It's just like you to talk in riddles, any chance of maybe further clarifying Jericho Fractions short and long term goals? ---

By 'no automatic fix' I mean that my first action has not been to reach for the corp tools and remove existing wars and set all sliders to 0. Neither will there be a scenario where I have a quick convo with a few people and then reach for the corp tool and remove, etc. We have friends and allies that we will not abandon, and we also have enemies that to be honest I would happily set to -11 if the scale went that far
***However*** I don't think I'm making any revelations when I say that some conflicts are actually serving no purpose whatsoever other than to wind people up on both sides. These conflicts are the ones I will be seeking close. The precise nature of how these conflicts will be ended really depends on how our individual opponents decide they want to play it. One thing is for sure, if anyone wants to have a sensible talk, with no strings or expectations attached, about things with me then I'm more than happy to have one without constant references to the past - so long as that is reciprocated.
A key aim is to re-engage in RP without abandoning our PvP side. This is not going to be easy and as the resignation of Jade (and indeed my own appointment as CEO) came a bit out of the blue this will need a lot of discussing internally before I start to speculate on the forums about it. Whatever happens will be a corp decision for, as mentioned above, my status as CEO is only temporary.

First thought to mind is to congratulate you Athule. But then I realize that you are stepping into a position that comes pre-packed with enough baggage to stall a freight train. Either way, your job will not be an easy one. I personally wish you the best of luck in any direction Jericho goes as long as that direction is not a hostile one towards Oberon-Inc or the Phoenix Alliance. I also hope that Jades personal vendetta against my self does not dampen any overatures Jericho under your command may want to make towards peace with the PA.
Respectfully, Halseth |

Edited by: Stavros on 22/09/2004 17:22:37 Whilst I am glad to see Athule back and more active (HI ATHULE ^_^), I think JF should really take a step back and look at what they are and what they attempt to do. I think the previous posts sums it up nicely:

Moderation aside cos I ain't discussing it, you have infact cited both the reasons why people dislike your corp and the results of this dislike in that one sentance. You cannot expect to simply walk in and start mixing your one roleplaying corp with the hundreds of other 0.0 based corps in alliances and otherwise that don't rp for whatever reason or simply abhor it.
If you wish to RP do it on your own or with the other rp corps in eve, do NOT be arrogant enough to assume that just because YOUR small corp (which is a tiny spec in the 0.0/Alliance based group of corps within eve) wants to bring RP into the game, that the rest of us should have to alter our play styles to take into account YOUR views on how to play eve. I mean so what if we are all powergaming 10 year olds, if that is how we choose to play the game, then so be it, but abusing us for playing the game how we choose? It is this, quite frankly hypocritical rhetoric and your quite frankly patronizing and biggotist attitude that if you don't kertail to JF's rp'ing whims you are infact an immature teenager, full of angst and pent up frustration that makes the vast majority of corps and players in this game unable to stand you.
One other thing that irks people about your corp and especially your forum posts is that you try and use RP as an excuse to insult people. Its like according to you guys if I called someone an utterly idiotic noob (not writing anything worse but in reality I mean ALOT worse) its a personal attack, if I write you utterly idiotic noob ammarrian, its STILL a personal attack. Which ever way you slice it RP is not an excuse to flout forum rules.
Nothing personal about any of you guys, indeed I was only yesterday having a good discussion with Jade on IRC, but seriously if you want acceptance and you want your posts to remain flame free from ANYONE in the eve universe, your corp attitude needs to change.

I grew up in a suburban area north-west of Reykjavik, Iceland. Me and my family were surrounded on all sides by both new and old money, fishing tycoons and stockbroker wunderkind. I grew up thinking that there was no poverty in Iceland, that anyone who lived in an apartment complex was a single parent or horribly unlucky. I grew up in an upper-middle class family, surrounded by aristocrats on all sides. And alot of arrogance.
I attended an extremely old college, full of tradition and steadfast values. We were the best, the brightest, and our school was the most difficult and most rewarding of all. I was a part of the intellectual elite. And alot of arrogance.
I now live in an apartment on the west side of Reykjavik with my single mother, and attend a much younger, more "earthy" college. I feel I can, with at least some authority, talk about arrogance.
And Jericho is full of it.
Yes, I was in Jericho for a few weeks (until a rather unfortunate incident in Crielere. Jericho decided that frail political connections took precedent over casus belli, but I understand that decision nonetheless). And even I was slightly put back by the levels of elitism present there.
Athule, gg on the CEO appointment. However, this has no bearing on me, nor most of EVE. It does not concern me that Jade is juggling with whatever problems he might be dealing with in real life or virtual life or whatever. It does not concern me that Jericho Fraction, a corporation the size of our own Guiding Hand Social Club, is changing CEO's. At best, Jericho has only ever done one thing: reminded me of Iceland. A tiny voice trying to be heard, and sometimes managing to be arrogant and flamboyant enough to succeed in getting attention.
Not everyone plays this game to roleplay. I don't, for one. I can enjoy good roleplaying from time to time, but EVE is too real, so to speak. Not in the sense that it distorts the line of reality, but that the problems we often face in EVE are so close to ours, that of fiscal problems, and occasionally boredom. Another factor is the coined "law of MMORGP roleplaying", i.e. that the quality of roleplay is inversely proportional to the amount of people playing on the same server. Unfortunately, I don't have the name of who came up with the phrase originally, but it has a ring of truth in it.
EVE's server, the main and only shard, is enormous by industry standards. More than ten thousand people during peak times. With that kind of a sprawling community and economy, most find it unnecessary to try to spice it up with roleplay. EVE offers enough in terms of social interaction that people don't have to try to "fill in the gaps" so to speak.
Come to think of it, when I play EVE, I roleplay. I roleplay myself. When we get contracts, I am someone being paid to kill someone else. My speech is contemporary, curt and sufficiently real for most "roleplaying buffs" to scoff, but I am not assuming the role of a dark elven necromancer. I'm a man, trying to make his way in the world, and I've decided to be prepared to kill in order to do so. Who is to say that this isn't roleplaying, even though my in-game personality does not differ from my real-life personality?

Best of luck to you, Athule.
I still hope that we will see Jade back though before long. I'll miss her, admittedly more for her wit than her flamboyance for the former is in even more depressingly short supply around here than the latter.
I trust you won't be cowed by Stavros authoritative but misdirected treatise on the enforcement of unwanted play-styles. He seems to forget that around here, a lot of arrogance cuts both ways in dull strokes: given a choice between a bit of light-hearted verbal banter and a podding, many would choose not to be podded. If only someone bothered to ask. And comply. Yup, arrogance. That's the word. Hypocrisy is another.
JF has always been both a lightning rod and a beacon - and perhaps so on purpose. You guys are in any case a gush of clean water against the sludge of overly serious and boorishly unimaginative dullards that clogs the chokepoints of space.
I for one would like to see you continue that way.

Edited by: Selim on 22/09/2004 18:08:46 Dammit Stavros, did you really have to take my quote and mutate it into something its not?
I dont push my interests in this game on anyone else. I'm probably the least RPy of anyone in Jericho. I'm a fighter, you see, I kill things. I dont bother myself reading the threads in this forum because frankly its all a bunch of bull and a waste of time for myself, I do my talking in game with my weapons and warp scramblers. I have nothing against non-roleplayers, you might even call me one.
JF is hardly a RP corp anymore - its been all but wiped out by the war and such.
I dont get how you get off saying I have some bigotted, patronizing additude. You've read one, short post of mine.
I dont know about the rest of Jericho but I sure dont press roleplaying on other people. Especially as I state that I dont even roleplay.
I understand what you are trying to say, stavros, but why oh why did you have to quote ME? Quote someone else!
JF is really just a group of people who like the free-space agenda of JF - nothing more. That doesnt even need to be roleplayed. Its quite easily not.
BTW, all my flames and insults are out of character as well - if I call you an asshat, I mean it.

Good luck Athule if you need anything just shout.
I wouldn't be too worried about people thinking JF are suffering from a case of arrogance. I mean you only have to read the posts on the first page of this forum to understand arrogance is the universal currency in EVE.
Yeah some of the JF people feel a little too important but thats hardly isolated to Jericho.
Nobody in the game is important since it's a game.
If you think you or your corp are important in EVE then you are Rping on a level many members of JF couldn't even conceive of doing.
Infact most of the corps who post here are more like Jericho than they would like to believe judging by their behavior.

Originally by: Lowa Good luck with your new job, who knows, you might stay on even after your term is up?
I can say with 100% certainty that I won't be CEO by mid-December (or November or whenever Jade's account expires, which is crunch time on that score) at the very latest. At that point either Jade will return as CEO or a new one will be chosen after a full discussion and friendly vote between the members. I see my role as follows:
a) Disentangle out-of-game wars from in-game wars. b) Where that cannot be done, disentangle from those wars as far as possible. c) Get JF on a track where people are back having fun again. d) Report any suspicious activity to the Emperor.
Once that's done I'll either return to my old semi-independent directorship (most likely) or swap corps.
In response to the various comments on JF and its role in various backstabbings and so on, what follows is my frank and honest opinion on the subject, which may suprise some people (but hopefully not too many who actually know me! ).
Let's just rewind to just before the end of the NVA and the start of the PA. For various reasons relations between JF and some of the corps that were to become the PA were rock bottom - to the extent that we were no longer functioning as an alliance. A lot of JF were coincidently also extremely ****ed off at the time (and still are to be honest) about a completely unrelated issue that I still feel was badly handled by the GMs. JF had already internally decided to leave the NVA and was in the process of deciding what to do, and this did not include (despite some out-of-context remarks seized upon by some PA members) plans to trigger a civil war. The fact is we would have been out of the NVA in a couple of days at the most.
Instead we were pre-empted in this by suddenly finding ourselves effectively booted. Now personally at that point I would have taken a deep breath, accepted that some people were going to paint it as some sort of victory, and moved on as the outcome was effectively what was going to happen anyway. Unfortunately frothy members on both sides decided that that outcome wasn't exciting enough and after a day or so of simmering away went, basically, ape****. In many ways it reminded me of when Ragnar went looney after winning his vote in that it really made no sense at all at the time (although it was a lot of fun, so stupid I'm still convinced it was scripted!) and all it served to do was set a chain reaction in motion. In the process what actually happened was rewritten by both sides. Just so there's no confusion here, I am including Jade in that statement. Not that that matters that much of course as after a few months clearly the original causes had pretty much become irrelevant and the whole thing had turned into a mudwrestling match. For some people it clearly still is. Did Jade and some other JF members overstep the mark a few times? Definitely. Did certain JF enemies do so as well? Definitely, in some cases they veritably did a long jump over the mark in my opinion. I have my own detailed ideas about how the whole thing got to this stage, but obviously that will just get the thread locked (hopefully I've been OK so far).
To summarise neither side is snowy white, and the whole situation is far more complex than most people will glean from the forums. And most importantly of all is EVE a better place for any of those involved as a result? I'm fairly sure not. A look around the faces that regularly visit the forums should show by their absence that our own little story is far from unique, even if the end of this chapter has been a bit explosive.
Now, as to RP. My own take on this is that it always has to have humour. I don't really regard myself as an RPer to be honest, and people that meet me in game will usually find I will slide between IC and OOC quite happily without sticking some silly (ooc) or (ic) label in front of it. To be honest I often suspect that if someone finds them necessary then something's wrong. If you find docking slow today why does that have to be an OOC comment? If you enjoy podding someone why does that have to be IC? Most of the time you can happily be natural and not think that RP is the same thing as putting some thees and thous in and donning some pointy ears. If someone still decides they hate you in real life because of something then that is their problem for being idiots. On the other hand you should at least give them an opportunity to laugh it off. I don't see this as an RP/non-RP issue - the most completely non-RP pirates have exactly the same problem. That's not to say you can't talk seriously or everything has to be a farce...it just means remembering that EVE is just a game, even when it's tempting not to.
I have to agree with what Maud says, people who think JF is somehow worlds apart from what they get up to have a very distorted idea of JF. If any |

I have to agree with what Maud says, people who think JF is somehow worlds apart from what they get up to have a very distorted idea of JF. If anything, that is more true now than ever. Ultimately JF doesn't need to change that much, it just needs a bit of a breather from a neverending flamefest. And the best way to fight a big fire is to remove the fuel.
Anyway internal discussions will continue until the weekend, when I'll start getting in touch with people that I want to sort things out with (anyone who wishes to do so can contact me first in the meantime).

Athule, congratulations on your promotion.
Nevertheless I would like to say that I regret it alot that Jade, probably, will disappear from the EVE-landscape. We all know her, and even if some may not have liked her because they were on the other side, I think I can say that she always defended viciously here ideas and stood up for her fellow corp mates and alliance buddies. Maybe, at some times, she added too much of herself into the debates, struggles and wars, maybe she should have taken some level of abstraction from time to time. Anyway, what is done is done, we can only hope that at some point, it can be repaired, restored.
Therefore I would like to probe, not only within the Jericho Fraction, but also in this community, if we cannot turn the tide. I would prefer a universe with Jade in it, I would hate to see her leave. I know that I'm not the only one that feels this way.
So people lets stick the heads together and let's fi'ght''nd' a solution. I'm confident that there is a way out of this. Let's us work together towards a compromise.
I'm calling upon the major alliance and corp leaders to stick their head out. Don't let it end this way We make up the community - We are the community

Personally I think it is a shame that you won't remain as CEO. From reading your posts I can see that you are a very fair and honourable person. Whilst some may see some of the history differently to you, it is clear that you are genuinely posting it as you see it with no attempt at distortion or spin. Your integrity shines out of your words like a ray of sunshine. I am sure that with you as the CEO Jericho Fraction would grow into a respected corporation and would prosper. Something I do not see happening with Jade at the head because of his playing style and more importantly his desire to force his playing style on others.
You Sir have my utmost respect. I congratulate you on your appointment to CEO, however temporary it may be. I wish you the very best of luck in acheiving the very laudable goals you have laid out in this thread.

Umm,
Excuse me here, but if Jade is leaving, that is cause for celebration...
Let's face it... he/she was a major source of conflict in this game, more than any one character ever.
I used to be another character, and as that character, Jade and I had a long talk after she was tossed from the NVA. I can tell you, he/she was an arrogant individual. I can even tell you personal stuff, but I'll skip it for now.
Some times, humility is forced upon an individual. In Jade's case, it is overdue.
In the end though... so what. Eve exists, so let's rock.

One last thing...
About Jade "disappearing from the eve landscape"... yeah, that may happen... for a while.
But, like myself, lotsa old timers get fed up with the game... leave, and then after many months remember what made Eve Special.
So, they try to reclaim their old accounts, and come back to eve.
In the event they cant reclaim their old accounts, *snip*
So, even if Jade leaves, he/she will probably be back once they forget the bad parts of eve and remember the fun and friendships..
No, they don't :/ - Wrangler

Well, ATI sorted out their driver problems so i can actually launch EVE again without crashing the whole system ;s
didn't reactivate my old account tho', can't really afford paying for two games at once ;p But tempted to check it back when new update comes.
(my hangar must be the most mothballed and outdated collection of junk by now... >>;

Sad you still have that attitude. I think Jade will be fine if he lays low and doesn't get in the heated mix of things, and maybe return. Jade you gotta remember most of these people are kids, you play with so getting some kind of organized group with the same beliefs is never going to work. We have those struggles, PvP against Industry, do what you do best and support the fighters 150%. GL to you in Jericho. Stay out of Curse.

I don't sugar coat things, I would be fine with allowing JF to continue on. Regardless of the Jade and Crice fightings, I still have some respect for Jade on how he plays... He plays very different then most. Maybe it's RL stuff causing the demise, maybe it is the in game lack of the political and forum agendas.... I have no idea. Jade was good for eve, no matter how much I dislike his gameplay.
Notferr you keep rooting for the wrong side, I am going to come up there and spank you like a dog that ****ed on the wifes new rug.

JF is still tootling along, things are a little quiet at the moment as we reorganise - or more correctly formalise our existing organisation - and refill some director posts. The first steps in doing this are almost complete and once it's done we'll be back in force again soon though with more forum shenanigans, guerilla strikes into 0.0 and empire wars.
Jade still logs in from time-to-time and I hope she* comes back again properly. In many ways the little break from all the smack on the forums has been fairly healthy as we're concentrating more on enjoying the game than on various people's (real or imagined, it doesn't matter which) attempts at manipulating the system against Jade - even if that break has come about for completely the wrong reasons (IMHO).
* Just in passing I know Jade in RL, so I know very well the player is a 'he' - but there's something in me that can't quite make up sentences like "Shirley is very strong, everyone agreed he was the strongest in the competition". _______________________________
