I HATE when ninja's come in as i'm running a mission, just to find that they can salvage to their hearts content, and i'm stuck doing nothing. The only thing i can shoot is my own wrecks. If they still wanna risk salvaging my mission, LET them, but PLEASE let me shoot the little ***** . I work hard to get the loot/salvage out of my missions. It's how i make my living in eve. I don't go around taking their isk, or randomly ganking them and taking away all of their hard earned stuff, what's to say they have the right to steal right in front of me, leaving my hands tied.

Easy now...
However, that is why I fly a Domi with Salvagers and Tractors in the Highs. Then no one has a chance to grab the wrecks. |

Fact of life ... people have recourse against thieves -- except in EVE, where we aren't allowed to defend against them in any way whatever. If any random pilot could warp to a Dysprosium moon and take what they wanted out of the silos, folk would be upset, despite the 'fact' that they don't 'own' the moon any more than the mission runner 'owns' the fruits of his labors.
A miner converts asteroids into rocks in a can. Anyone can steal the can, but the thief gets an aggression flag that allows the miner to choose to defend 'his' assets, if he wishes.
Mission runners convert rats into wrecks. Anyone can steal the wrecks, but the thief should get the same aggression flag to allow the mission runner to choose to defend 'his' assets, if he wishes.
Give the ninja salvagers the slightest bit of risk to go along with the reward they currently get for free.
An alternative, by the way, would be to restrict the use of salvage modules to pilots in player corps; while I prefer the flag approach, this alternative would be acceptable.

Edited by: Marcus Gideon on 01/07/2009 03:04:15 CCP has said, time and time again, that Salvaging is a profession in their opinion.
Just as you don't get flagged for mining an asteroid someone else is mining... you don't get flagged for salvaging a wreck someone else killed. The loot obviously belongs to the player, but the wreck is public property according to CCP.
I agree it's lame ass ****, given the current game mechanics. I'd like to see less emphasis on stalking mission runners to find wrecks, and more emphasis on probing for Arch/Salvage sites which would also contain wrecks to collect.
If players were forced to hunt down WRECKS instead of other players, there wouldn't be quite so much ninja "theft".
The last time this was a topic, I suggested the same thing. Whenever the first rat in each room of a mission dies, it generates a wreck and a Magnetometric site beacon.
If a player chooses not to hand in the mission, and wants to salvage their kills first, then the Deadspace will obscure the beacon and allow them "first dibs".
If the player was only after the big loot and bounties, then once they hand in, anyone can probe down the battlefield and clean up.
Having to probe for Mag sites would also lead players to find the randomly generated sites as well, leaving more chances that players don't get harassed as much. |

Why are wrecks considered public property when your ammo was what created them in the first place? You got the bounty for it and the loot inside the wreck is considered yours.
I agree, your wrecks should be yours and salvaging other people's wrecks should get you flagged same as stealing booty.

Can we have a sticky saying that this is a valid game mechanic and please stop posting about this.
Here is the definition of Salvage and Salvage laws.... (note, I have bolded part to make it easier to read through your tears)
in maritime law, the rescue of a ship or its cargo on navigable waters from a peril that, except for the rescuerÆs assistance, would have led to the loss or destruction of the property. Under some jurisdictions, aircraft may also be salved. Except for salvage performed under contract, the rescuerùknown as the salvorùmust act voluntarily without being under any legal duty to do so, apart from the general duty to give assistance to those in peril at sea or to stand by after a collision. So long as the owner or his agent remains on the ship, unwanted offers of salvage may be refused. A derelictùa vessel found entirely deserted or abandoned without hope or intention of recoveryùis, however, fair game for anyone who comes across it. Typical acts of salvage include releasing ships that have run aground or on reefs, raising sunken ships (or their cargo), putting out fires, and so on.
Now, you are not the owner of the wreck, so you cant claim salvage. The owner is the pilot you just exploded. So get over it.
There are plenty of things you can do to avoid the salvage ninjas.... Ever thought about SALVAGING THE WRECKS FIRST????

yet another noob not knowing the rules?
Salvage is free for all(because owned by NPC), like the loot should be. You're shooting NPC ships, you're PIRATING NPC ships, why should the stuff change its owner anyways?? Player wrecks, as their loot, remain in the ownership of the ship owner, not pirate. The loot mechanics are broken, so stop fcking around correct salvage mechanics wanting them getting broken too.

I'd take up ninja salvaging in a heartbeat if people could shoot back... as it stands, they usually don't shoot me when I steal because they know I want them to. It would allow for easier faction mod mining/ransom, and that's a plus in my book. |

If you could shoot them it would degenerate from a vlid profession to what canflipping is about: empire ganking.
