Well, interesting to see this further reported on another website, but really no new information. Most who have any idea who Ricdic is at this point followed enough to know he sold the ISK to raise money to assist with RL economic issues. At least this one wasn't fluffed with a bunch of inaccurate numbers and craptastic exageration from some dimwit trying to make a bigger story out of it.
As a side note, these forums blow (this is my 3rd attempt to post this not so big comment). ---------------------- Dzil's Corp Sales - 200m for 7+ standings ---------------------- |

Mind-blowing concept!!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

(BTW, the above smart-ass comments were given not because he has an obvious distrust for eve banks, which is actually not a bad thing, but because he's in no way added to the discussion factor of this thread).
I was thinking about going to take a ****, I think I'll just sit on it for a while longer....

Or someone got paid for the Reuters article as well Either way, it's pretty cool to end up in the paper, but not my type of "wants" if I end up there for doing bad things.

Actually Reuters is now Thomson Reuters, which to any of you who have went to an institute of higher learning, produces a good number of the overpriced College Text Books, search engines (WestLaw) and pre/post grad school training classes. Snide comment aside, it has nothing to do with any other news organizations besides providing pool reporting. Now, if you want to think of a conspiracy, half of the initial private offering that created CCP came from OZ Communications, a Canadian Telecom company. That company was purchased by Nokia a few years ago, and Nokia and Thomson are partners in creating a whole bunch of Cell phone technologies....

I'd rather see an article about the aftermath of the embezzlement, which has turned out rather positively so far. The "human story" is interesting in that it humanizes Ricdic so people can empathize with him, but it's not really news worthy (in my opinion) that someone had economic difficulties and they took money from someone in a way that wasn't illegal. Pointing out that people trust EBANK to manage over $50,000 worth of ingame currency is interesting as well as how they were able to guard against someone getting all of it rather than just 10%. -- Knowledge is Power! |

Plain and simple, it is way too easy to generate ISK in this game. Because ISK is so easy to earn is the reason that some players simply couldn't care less if an ingame bank goes bust, or is scammed, or whatever.
"It's only 200 billion" says it all, because 200 big ones has no real meaning anymore in a game where chaining for rats in 0.0, blitzing Level 4 missions or <insert fave "cash cow" here> is the sweet sound of "ka-ching".
Guaranteed if 0.0 rat spawns were dropped back to around 50% of current spawn rates (yeah, some of you remember) and level 4's and 5's had most of the low end loot ripped out of them --- then alot of players would be singing a whole different tune when their ISK gets scammed by an ingame bank and, no ****e, it would be anything but "positive".

TBH - its hard to stay mad at a guy for scamming in game to help his RL.
When your desperate - theres nothing you wont do.
At least he didnt scam to buy more internet spaceships.
That being said - scam is part of EVE. Every player has a price - for Ricdic it was 200bil...

Yes... I also forgot to mention that I absolutely hate idiocy. And yes, I'm implying that the readers here, the readers at those various journalistic publications (and I use journalist loosely, and alot of those directly involved are idiots. Idiots for believing the fraud perpetrated. Idiots for not fact checking thus perpetrating a furtherance of the fraud. Idiots for knowingly encouraging and abetting the fraud before us. Right now I suspect Ric is sitting in his parent's basement wondering if he'll find the right woman and possibly some day have children. Oh and laughing at all you suckers. Before someone points to me about how Ric is not smart enough to fool you... Nixon wasn't all that smart either though he was clever enough to keep a few balls in the air at the same time. But it all came crashing down on him and then, only then, did reality get a good airing. Literally, it is quite the same situation here. Though there is one difference, when Nixon was put out so was his lackeys. Here, we've kept them around and made them celebrities along with that asshat. So I reiterate, stop buying the hype. Next up, don't drink the kool aid.

LOL. Are you really saying that Ricdic spent years of his life playing spaceships, lying at every stage to people he spoke to every day, so that he could steal [OMG SO MUCH MONEY] 200b??? In the classic words of Del-boy, "You really are a pl0nker!!"

I am overjoyed to have provided you with a chance to demonstrate the depth of your hebetudinous nature. Of course educating a rampant insensate like you tends to bring out the worst pedantic behaviors in me. Perhaps it is simply because I am worried that if I type t o o f a s t you will get lost. That's exactly what I'm saying did not happen. Of course, only a buffoon forgets GHSC. In this game, a year plus of lies and deciet is well within the capabilities of this community. However I again reiterate, I'm not saying Ric lied all the time. But you people are falling for the current batch of lies. And thank you, plonker is one of the nicest and kindest flames that someone has given me in a long time. What kind of flame should I respond with? I just want to properly satisfy your inner child. Oh, and it appears that someone actually interviewed CCP and Ricdic for the Reuters article. That's a refreshing change.
The fact that the story made Reuters isn't that big of a deal. I remember a traffic accident in Salinas, CA (home town) between a 18-wheeler truck and a bus carrying farm workers that was reported on Reuters as well.
Took me a hour or more to figure out what they meant by an "articulated lorry". -----------------------------------------------

In real life, if you rob a bank to pay medical bill and a down payment on a house and you get thrown in jail as a common criminal.. Make sure you don't blend "What you would do with funny money." and "What is right and wrong."
Am I sad for the guys real life issues, sure, it's a heart breaking story, if it's real. Do I approve of the actions he took? Not at all. Stealing is stealing, no matter which way you look at it. We all talk about a threshold of when temptation overthrows common sense. But this is a different case.
CCP may look the other way while someone runs off with your entire wallet and assets, that wasn't all that happened here. He willfully stole, broke rules in which he agreed he would never break, regardless of how sad a story is to why he did it, he still did it.

Perhaps Mr. Hawkblade should contact these journalistic venues and right these supposed wrong. If Ricdic is indeed lying, perhaps he can present some proof and change the story to reflect the new information, as he has personal experience with the man while on the EBANK staff.
