Is it really a good idea to have two PvP characters? If you've read my thread on Amarr vs. Minmatar ships you'll know I like both. Well, for the last three days I just cannot decide one over the other, so I thought: "Hey, why not just get both?"
The complications range from the obvious to the not-so-apparent though. I need to pay for all those ships, when I want to cross-train for Caldari my Minmatar will have the missile skills (but my Amarr might have the EWAR skills...) They'll both have to be in the same corp or I'll have major trust issues with my employer (If my alt was a negative-infinity sec status pirate for example, and one day I was irritable at my employer ) but more likely I just simply won't get hired.
An interesting question is if I should have them go down separate paths. That way I can still PvP legitimately while enjoying piracy, but again, who would hire me? (Or if my two separate corps war-dec'd each other... lol) I want them both to fly on the BC/HAC level in small gang warfare. I'll have to choose which ship (and skill set) I want to take out of the hangar every time I fly. I can't "merge" the two later on, I suppose I could sell one though. If I ever wanted to stop paying for one I just lost so much time, money (as in real-world currency) and skill value until I reactivate it.
I'm not much of a multi-boxer and don't like the idea of controlling two ships at a time (even if one is just a scout) and using it in a PvP way.
Do, you think it's logical? Is it common?
Thanks!

Is there a reason not to train them on the same character?

Train both on one character, or train one and eventually buy another character specialised in the other race.

Train one for damage dealing .. train the other for ECM to get you out of trouble ...

as stated above, train them on the same character.
the only reason to train them on separate characters is if you plan on flying them at the same time with 2 clients. in which case, you would be better off making one of them more of a "support" pilot.

2nd account for a pvp char is better spent on cov-ops->recon, pos gunning and haulers/frieghters imho :)

It takes long enough just to fly ONE race. Then I'll have to train for another year...
I think it's just distracting to train a skill set knowing you're gonna dump it as soon as it's completed.
It's not so much that I want to fly both... It's that I need to find the one I like best. I'd start having second thoughts watching my Amarr's skill progress slowly climb. Same with Minmatar. I will probably drop one for another eventually. It's not like I really lost those skill points, more like I hibernated the account. If I lost anything it's just real-world money.
What I don't want to do is train Amarr, realize I want Minmatar and spend another 2-4 months retraining. I'd rather just go "You know what, I'll fly my Minnie..." and have it ready right there. It's just that it'll cost about $30.00 (2 months of training)
