So from what i've read Caldari ships sound OP for mission running because they can Shield tank so have more gank with an easy tank setup for SP characters.
Wish i'd known what i know now when i'd started...But heres my question.
Is it worth my training up caldari ships/missle training, to run lvl 3/4's solo.
I currently have fairly good gunnery skills and cap skills. Training armour tank skills soon. (good being 4 not perfect of 5)
So i'm flying a maller with t1 lasers (like a month to get t2 if i want but i think other support will help me more in long run) Can fly up to BS3 with armour tank mostly3's t2 cap stuff and heat sinks t2 etc.
Generally running missions in caldari space because thats where the party seems to be, unless someone advises me otherwise. Though i have a good amount of standing with a Minmatar corp too :P TL:DR Can fly amarr ships fairly well. Worth training Caldari for missions?

Amarr ships do very well in Amarr space. Don't bother with Caldari.
...this doesn't even seem to be a regular case of rats fleeing the sinking ship. Seems more like the rats are on fire, the ship is on fire, and the sea is full of drunk Russians. - Jacob Etienne |

If you are planning to work out of caldari space then since you already have amarr skill i would just go with that. They do fine and you will eventually get to fly the nightmare which is the king of EM/Therm enemies.
If you are going to move into minm or galente space then i would go with caldari. If you choose this route you only need about 1mil in missieles and another 2 mil in the other skills and you will be about to very effectively fly caldari (they are not very skill intensive if you fly the CNR, the Golem is where you will need to dump a ton of sp in order use it effectively)

lasers are fan****ingtastic for mission running in amarr space.
and it is rather easy to fit 3 heatsinks on most amarr battleships, only really need a 4 slot tank, and well, ravens mostly fit 4 slots tanks as well, as the rest go to damage mods, like target painters, or rigor rigs.

Edited by: Kher''Aleer on 03/07/2009 07:32:27 Not even will you have to put SP into missiles, would you coose to crosstrain, but you would also have to put some into shield tanking in order to sufficently run L4's.
It's my personal oppinion you'd need about 3m (or more) SP into missiles and another 2m (or more) SP into shield tanking in order to run a Raven through just about every L4 there is. This would be a mediocre machine when it comes to mission completion time.
The benefits are that it's a no-brainer flying it. It's also very versatile when it comes to engagement range. You're able to switch damagetype on the fly, which means it's suited for a man that wants to fight different NPC types.
Now, if you would put those 5m SP into gunnery instead.. well, to put it this way, amarr lasers are the flavor of the month since they buffed laser tracking. I'd stick to that if I was to reroll as amarr myself.

Well let me be that guy then.
Don't go mission in Caldari space.
Go shoot blood raiders/sansha (Amarr/Khanid space). Very easy to kill, no annoying jamming and good loot.
Train up lazors and rake in the isk.

I had no idea that they neut in missions, they are usually dead before they get anywhere in range :p
Just stupid how they only start dong damage under 30 or 25 km.

Edited by: DarthCaboose on 03/07/2009 16:53:14 Passive Shield Tanking is best done with certain Caldari ships (though it's definitely not an exclusive strategy).
With high enough shield skills, you can get away with some pretty crazy stuff (like doing Level 3s in a Destroyer, heh).
