Alright so me and a couple friends of mine have been roaming in and around wormhole space and every time we find a good empty class 2-3 or we've cleared it out and left. Now we ran into a problem concerning another corp and a tower being thrown down in a system we wanted.
We did our best to keep the tower from being thrown down, took out a couple of their scanning ships. Ran off one of their battle cruisers, but unfortunately the tower started to be anchored.
Now we're all relatively new to this tower business and to our dismay we found that there was absolutely nothing we could do about it being anchored because we couldn't target it. I'm not sure there was anything we could do about this so we waited until it finished anchoring.
After it anchored we managed to target it and start shooting. Our group consisted of a Command Ship and two battlecruisers. We assumed since the tower was so fresh we would have a slim chance of killing it. We then realized the tower was effectively taking no damage after 10 minutes of straight shooting.
We warped out regrouped and attempted once again to harass their frigs, one of which managed to warp to the tower and begin the on lining process. And as soon as the tower came online, we found it once again impossible to kill.
We then bugged out after realizing that now the tower was online guns could be thrown down, guns we knew we couldnt handle.
So my question is this:
1) Is it really that easy to put up a tower in W-space? 2) Is there anything we could have done? Unfortunately I left my Armada of Imperial Apocalypses back at home. 3) Is this one of those "If you can't beat em, join em scenario?". I liked the idea of roaming w-holes. But i mean if its that simple to put up a tower I might as well.
Any comments would be helpful.

It has been an issue since poses were introduced that it only takes one hauler to come into a system, 1. Drop the tower 2. Anchor it 3. Online it.

Your options were limited, one way to stop them wouldve been to hit the ship that hauled their tower in the first place, the second way would be to stop the from anchroing the tower so you can scoop them yourself - both slim chanes tho.
The best chance you had wouldve been to make sure they couldnt get close enough to the tower to online it while you bring enough firepower to bring the 10m hp hardened shields and few m unhardened armor/shield down. (Shields have a shieldrecharge) After anchoring a tower its shields are at only 50% (a recent change) which makes it a little easier to accomplish.

You are now in a situation where (if you have a pos as well) both can make living int he wh harder for the opponent until the weaker side leaves. Of course you can just choose to packup and leave if you dont fancy losing ships but also getting nervewrecking fights which you might start to love.
Without a pos, id look for another wh tbh.

I havent probed in empire for wh, but read that there are plenty opening from/to highsec. You might find it helpful to try pos stuff and also PVP Fittings on the Testserver
Anyways, eve is all about learning by doing, if you keep up the attitude youll get to where you want ;) -

It's easy to set up a pos but not necessarily very worthwile. With a group effort you can clear a wormhole in a few hours max and then all have to wait for the slow respawns. Maybe its different with the whole "extra 6 battleships spawn" when you bring or build your own caps there - but i haven't tried and tbh i doubt it.
Imo moving all the time is the best thing to do. Kinda a nomad lifestyle but probably not for everyone. Personally i do like to setup a temporary small tower though when i visit a wh.
Apart from that a pos is nothing to fear per se. The last hole i cleared also had a pos. I stole all their sites so i guess they weren't all to happy. Makes it all the more fun for me though. :) --

Edited by: Santiago Fahahrri on 06/07/2009 20:56:27 I've seen several groups pack up thier towers and leave w-space systems when faced with the dealing with a group of hostiles (you and your buddies would fit this description) on top of dealing with the Sleepers.
Sleepers can be a challenge. The idea that another group can ambush you in mid-fight with them can unnerve many would-be wormhole explorers. Stalk them. Make them worry every time they leave the tower forcefield.
If you make it unsafe for them to carry out the profit-making activities they came into the system for and they lack a high-level of determination, you can probably chase 'em out.

na, can be used to "safely" farm the attacker fleet then with the right setup.
