Neither are hybrids, just diesels from what I have seen.
I don't know what Mercedes are like now but they used to have real crap after sales service, basically once you had bought the car they weren't bothered about you any more which could be a total ***** if you had any problems. Personal opinion though is that the beamer is a much nicer looking car and write ups seem to be good for them. The merc though I think is about 5 thousand quid cheaper before extras. At the end of day though it's all down to personal preference. . Navigator Killed my sig |

Buy a cheap truck and a good motorcycle.
BMW makes very good motorcycles.

/me has strong suspicions the OP is not very interested in OOPE dwellers' advice on his choice of car, but rather in informing said OOPE dwellers that he is planning to acquire a verhicle in the BMW 3 (M) / Merc C series range of brand newness.... -----

I had an Alfa Romeo 164 for a short time. The electrics were awfull. Modern ones are better for reliability but its a shame they dont do a single RWD model and have not for some time. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. ~Saint |

great, stylish cars with good engines, until you go on the highway and your hood suddenly is ejected by an explosion and all you see ahead of you is black smoke.

That's complete rubbish.
My uncle had one and sometimes it went over 20 miles between breakdowns.

Depends on your needs and driving style. the BMW is more of a driver's car even in diesel form (the engine is quite decent actually). I'm not so sure on the styling tbh, if you're a big guy it'll feel cramped a bit.
Te C class is roomier and the new one looks great and should have a better build quality than the older ones. It is however less 'focussed' on being a driver's car, still very good but not like the BMW. That's not neccesarily a downside ofcourse as it depends on what you're looking for. The traction control will drive you up the wall if you like to find your own limits a lot.
If you want to have a really sporty car then the BMW is 'better', if you like sporty but at the same time don't want to get the 'urge to race' every 3 seconds then the C class is better. I'm certainly no Merc fan but the new C class is very good.

Is this a hypothetical question, or are you really a lucky bastard?
I would go for the merc. Balls out sports is for bikes, cars should be more comfort. (*scratches head and wonders how he ended up driving an MG ZT).

BMW's are great driver cars. Though they have an estate agent image.
One of favourite cars ever is the BMW M1. Such a sharp car.
The latest Mercedes C class saloons look very sharp. Less staid than previous models. They look modern but dont have the boring global jelly mould look.
