And don't say "you open both cargo holds and click + drag".
I want to know how cargo is actually moved from one ship to the other in space. Obviously this process isn't shown in the game, but does your character jump out of your ship and raid the enemy ship, then load their stuff into your ship? Are there machines on each ship that can attach to the other ships and steal stuff? Is there a wizard on every ship?

Assume you are docked and tether to each other and have it loaded in containers.
Assume this is not shown in the actual game because it would be boring and slow it down.

Edited by: Moira Pricecheck on 07/07/2009 21:18:32 Each ship is equipped with special "Limited Or Otherwise Technically Willing Handlers Of Random Equipment" (LOOTW***Es for short) stored in the ships' cargo bay. When your cargo bay is opened, these LOOTW***Es activate, speed over to the wreck or cargo container, rip off items of value (in the case of wrecks), and transport the directed cargo from the target back to your cargo bay.
In order to minimize the amount of space they consume, their range is limited to about 5000 meters round trip, thus making close proximity a necessary prerequisite prior to the deployment of your LOOTW***Es. |

How do you fly a blown-up ship to a docking station to have it loaded into containers?

Every ship is equipped with small short range cargo drones. Not much more than clamps with engines. Those fly out to the wreck and move the stuff to your cargo bay. It's in one of the short stories. -------- Ideas for: Mining

Probably some kind of cut/paste routine on the database server.

I'd expect the items have a "location" field and that is changed from ship xxxxx to wreck xxxx then to ship yyyy when you loot it.

Gnomes. Elves are two weak and not very good with technology. They tend to die in horrible hilarious ways in space.
Cargo Gnomes will happily jump back and forth between ships though with cargo strapped to their backs.

Your crew does it for you.
Yes, some could be elves, or at least very hawt females. All depends on whom you hire.
