I'm sick of seeing people get away from losing their ships by logging on another char from the same account or Ctrl +Q and making it so they log, their ship stays in place, and they are unlockable.

If they're locked before they log they can be jammed and held in place. Did it to a DCed corpie just yesterday. ___________________________________________

except when you can't lock them which is the whole point to the exploit.

Learn to lock before they log.
And quit bothering the forums. ___________________________________________

The alt login was fixed a long time ago. They are probably using the "quit while under gate cloak" trick. Since they are not online when aggressed the aggression does not 'stick', as it should be.
Unless CCP has a magic wand that can guarantee the stability of everyone's internet connection .....

He was shooting our curse at a planet so he had aggression. Understand the problem before you post KKthxbi

Facts are these: You CANNOT log in another character from the same account to force a disappearance of the 'original' character. If he was indeed unlockable then there are several possibilities, most notable are: 1. Your gang desynced and were out of range. 2. Your overview failed to update and target was not present. 3. You encountered a bug. None of these warrant a thread indicating that there is a magic exploit being widely used (you encountered it once, at least that is what the Curse comment tells me?).
File a bug report and amke sure you include reproduction steps.
PS: What the hell is wrong you? Common courtesy may not be "in" these days, but throwing it to the wind when there is no reason should be beneath even a child.

Edited by: Velvet Sinner on 07/07/2009 23:28:00 Edited by: Velvet Sinner on 07/07/2009 23:27:45 I seem to recall in a blog post somewhere out there (search "logoffsky") that just doing the Ctrl-Q once doesn't really do the trick. The logoff shoots you a distance of 1 million off the gate, but logging back on will return your ship to the log off location (roughly). However, doing the Ctrl-Q a second time will prevent the return to original logoff because you're essentially jumping ANOTHER 1 million off the SECOND log off location, then returning to THAT logoff point upon login again (second relog will put you 1 million off the ORIGINAL logoff point).
I haven't tested it, and if anyone's interested I'll locate the blog I read about it in.
edit: bad grammar

I'm no fan of the logoffski, but i won't whine about it either, there are ways and means of catching some, and the others? well, i didn't lose anything so...

Thats the part that bothers me tbh... Its an ingame mechanic to protect you from out of game experiences... Programming for something that SHOULDN'T happen. I guess a very loose analogy would be - If cars were to pull around huge parachutes behind them, destroying fuel economy/performance JUST INCASE the brakes failed.
If you have an unstable connection, don't go pvping, its YOUR problem. If its just a one off, well, take it on the chin... it was unlucky.
I'd rather take the hit once in a blue moon when i MIGHT get a legitimate disconnect whilst simultaneously being engaged/very near to pvp, than have to deal with people logging of 5-10-15 times a night.

So all the effort that I put in as a programmer to enusre that when something which should not go wrong does go wrong your bank account is not emptied is wasted? You would just say to the bank, "that's life and I'll take it on the chin... it was unlucky". Also parachutes are stored in the packed state and are only deployed when needed.
I was going to call you a ****** and an idiot and tell you to go back to WoW. But instead I'll just tell you to enagage brain before spouting nonsense.

Wow, way to take it personally. Lets try to keep personal insults out of it and discuss the game mechanics.
First off, I said it was a loose analogy. Secondly, this is a game. Nobody is losing anything other than pixels. Yes, parachutes are usually stored in a packed state, but therein lies the point. This failsafe mechanism is producing more negative effects than good. You honestly believe that enough peoples ships are saved after a legitimate disconnect to warrant the thousands of ctrl+Q style escapes? Lets face it, even 1% is a modest guess at how many are real disconnects.
I don't doubt your work is very valuable to alot of people, but surely as a programmer you'l understand that some situations call for a failsafe, others do not. I don't feel this is one of them. This is no different to people clearing out their accounts and screaming to you "HEY ALL MY MONEY HAS GONE MISSING AND IT WASN'T ME". Obviously, in the real world these things are investigated and fraudsters exposed (most of the time). But CCP can't investigate every case, and a blanket response of "ok you got away with it" seems a little dumb.
Even just having the client send a message to the server whenever a person ctrl+Q's would be a vast improvement. Obviously there are easy ways around it; pulling the plug, "end tasking" and so on... But it would at least curb the "safe with one keystroke" crew.

And I'm tired of losing ships due to a bunch of yahoos logging on based on intel from one logged on scout (log on trap).
Sucks to be on either side of this issue. But that's the crazy thing about the WWW. It just aint that stable. So programmers have to cut some slack.
And where there's slack there is a ton of little ****s waiting to exploit it.
Live with it or find a nice solo off line game to play

and there was a few years of "slack" when it came to the pos exploit
