So, is there anyone that does not have problems with the sound effects? And can actually consistantly hear their turrets fire, missiles launch, enemy ships explode, etc. ?
If there is such a person, could you be so kind to post your settings, computer and audio specs, anything special you did to make it work?
Because if no one can actually hear the effects, then I know I don't have to bother messing with new soundcards, settings, or whatever ...
Thanks in advance.

Edited by: Krystal Vernet on 09/07/2009 23:11:13 I eliminate all issues with sound effects by muting the entire game and playing music of my choice instead.
Seems to work well for me so far.
edit: Just contributing with a post that doesn't address your question. :D

Whats so lame is that the sound used to work fine.
It might not have been anything impressive but it didnt cut in and out or make your speakers crack.

Try to do scanning with sound and headphones. CCP might make someone go deaf if they don't fix it.

There isnt a sound problem with eve! Otherwise CCP would of fixed it by now!
On a serious note, just turn it off like the rest of us have done. Its not worth worrying about your settings, nothing you do will fix it.

i am doing a plex and think "let's get some sound"
i enable sound.. everything works fine. then suddenly a crackle (or whatever it's called) and the left or right side (any of em) stops working.
first i though it was my headset... but no: disabling and enabling eve sound fixes the problem.
this can occur in any situation, but it happens every time i am probing. seems like the star map doesn't like sound.

Whether you play with sound disabled or muted is irrelvent. The fact that something that creates immersion for new players and old is. May as well advertise EVE as a great MMO that has no sound...well sound that doesn't work properly. It is unprofessional imo and doesn't reflect well on a company that can't get their **** togeather long enough to fix such an important feature. Think of it this way you wouldn't buy a new car if it said it comes with 5.1 speaker system but only played AM radio now would you? |

i usually never play with sound but i thoght to try it and see if its as bad as people say. im sorry to say that it is. now i didnt get the "crack" sound but what i did notice is that most if not all of the "combat" sounds doesnt play at all. i can fire missile after missile and get hit numerous times with missiles and not get any sound effect at all. Once in a while though i get a single sound but its like one missile launching sound effect per about 50 launched missiles.
Suffice to say that the sound engine isnt working at all. This isnt merely small bugs. it really doesnt even work.

Yes the sounds are pretty but after hearing the exact same pew pew and explosion noises all day for a week they get boring so off they go, they add nothing to gameplay that other tools don't already cover like oh the overview.

Okay, now that is something I can try then.
And again, to the guys saying they have no problems, could you tell me what kind of hardware and OS you are running?
If some people can hear the sound effects, then I should be able as well, somehow.
Even if it means ripping out my second GFX card and putting in a new soundcard instead.

I have sound effects, however my other half has problems with not hearing missile or turret sounds.
I only have issues when I have the map open.
However, I have problems with the jukebox, is teh sucky.
We have identical systems, Win XP, run Realtek HD Audio.
Settings vary depending if I am using voice, but usually the music volume is around 4, and all others are around 6

Pre Apocrapha, I had to turn off sound at all times. If I turned it on, eventually my PC would reboot. Usually this happened as I started firing guns or was fired upon.
I filed a bug report with CCP and they blamed my sound drivers. (Turtle Beach Audio Advantage SRM). I contacted Turtle beach, they blamed Eve. So I turned the sound off, since I tended to believe the issue was with EVE. I've had this headset for years and have played many other games with no issues.
Post Apoc, I tryed sound again. To my amazement my PC runs all day long with no crashes. Hmm. Sound drivers didn't change. Still running the same old Win XP. I guess my sound drivers healed themselves! Obviously it couldn't of been an issue with EVE, they had no sound issues
Anyway my sound works great now with either the Turtle Beach external USB or the onboard Realtech HD drivers.

Edited by: CyberGh0st on 11/07/2009 14:01:16 Well, after seeing at least some people with working sound effects I started my quest for fixing my sound.
1st I removed EVE Online including cache and settings. That did not really help Then I tried using my onboard sound ( Soundmax HD ) instead of my Logitech USB headset, that didnt help either. I installed a Create X-FI soundcard, and I thought I had it fixed, because I could hear the sound effects, but it was only for a brief moment, then it was gone again :( I tried disabling all the special features of the X-FI, didnt help either.
I guess I am stuck with no sound effects, and the sound effects for turrets that I did hear were alot worse than before Apocrypha.
Coincidence or not, I just received a mail from Turbine that I can reactive LOTRO for a couple of days, so I am downloading it now, I am sure the graphics and the sound will work well over there.

Those people who say they have no sound problems, do a little experiment for me:
1. Sit on a gate in the hub of your choice (Jita, Rens, Dodixie, etc.) 2. Launch some scanner probes 3. Open your map 4. Proceed to scan down the system.
Whenever I try scanning,if someone enters my grid, my left headphone turns off and the right one gets fuzzy/crackly, and that's referring to all sound, including the music I have playing on my computer. Due to the fact that this only occurs when a ship/object enters my grid, I'm forced to do all scanning at a SS. I'd be interested to hear responses from people who aren't experiencing sound problems.

Also try entering warp with the map open. Map + warp is pretty much guaranteed to crackle and shut off one of my speakers for awhile.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Generally, no sound. Well, in fact the "muzzle" effect work, and as I am often far of my ship... I hate it but can't disable it.
Sometimes, heavy ANNOYING sound experience : Glitches, "crac***k", "tiiiiii", etc... Aouch.

I have the same issue. Ff i have my map open, or start to scan in the system, after a while i hear a loud 'craaaack', and the left side of the headphone is muted - actually not only in EVE - and the right side becomes distorted like hell. If i close the map, and spin the camera around, i get the same loud 'crack' noise, and voila, the sound is back. What the hell?!

- very annoying Invulnerability Field sound - turret sounds turning off randomly - crackling and strange sounds by some modules (eg. salvagers) - crackling and sound dropping on some channels while starmap open - system sound volume affected by opening starmap - client starting without sound at all
Bugreports for all of them but the bughunters are not able to reproduce any of the problems.

okay ill try a real answer. i dont know what issues you guys are talking about. i actually do keep my eve sounds on very low, just audible so they dont block out voice comms. i have no issues with sound. i will say that i had an issue before when i didnt turn off my computer for about 3 weeks, but was that the real issue? hell if i know. i dont get nasty staticy sound or whatever it is you hear. i just get sound. normal sound. i dont like alot of the sound, but there are some pleasurable ones. like the energy neut or vamp sound, the rep drones, and the pod squish.
if you have an issue do what normal people would do. fresh install of eve and update drivers and if that doesnt work THEN you have all rights to complain and send ccp your specs in a petition. call it immersion breaking if you wish but im sure im not alone here. i bet alot of people have no issues. to imply you are going to leave a game over the lack of working sound does not compute to me.
i have never been one to care very much for sounds, but they will be there, low, just as an indicator. say, perhaps, im paying attention to and alt and suddenly i hear firing. well then someone just found my main. okay, useful tool. i could ramble on and on, as i have many times, but i think ill save that for later. i got a good story brewin'. -------------------------

I like this game too much to give it up just like that. What I do is put EVE on passive mode, cancelling my alt account and just train my main.
With the cash from my alt account I just try another game.
I also was looking forward to WIS, and since that is now postponed to after 2009, that is another reason to check another game in the meantime.
It's just a bit frustrating, comming back after a break for a few months and finding that the sound system is nearly dead, I mean right after Apocrypha it worked afaik, just not very well.

I did, and it didn't help, the GM suggested that I submit a bug report, which may help some day, however, seeing that Apocrypha is out for 4 months now, I won't hold my breath and realize that I will have to fix this myself by finding hardware and/or software that is compatible with EVE Online.
I installed EVE Online on a 4th computer now, with completely different specs than mine, and fail again.
I am going to assemble another, completely different, rig soon, so if someone has some advice for parts that could work, I'd be gratfull. Most likely I will choose the Asus P5Q mobo with a Core 2 Quad cpu. Perhaps I will try to find me a Xonar sound card from asus, so I have one more soundcard in my test arsenal next to the 3DMax and X-fi.

The only problem i get is all the explosion/turret sounds disappearing. The damn loud hardener sounds stay and the music, but thats it. If i turn off the sounds and then turn em back on it fixes it until i move the camera. I've tried every combination of settings including adjusting speaker voices and quality. Intel Core 2 quad Q6600 Asus P5K-E mobo ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT SB Adigy 2 ZS 2 GB dual channel DDR3 I'm not exactly underpowered.

Sound does seem a bit hit and miss for me, most of the time it seems to work, but sometimes it starts crackling and this doesnt just effect my EVE, it also causes problems with external app sound as well, when I move the mouse about in EVE and change the camera view the crackling stops.
Guess you just get used to it lol but would be good if they fixed it.

/cry your motherboard uses an intel p35 chipset, one of the most stable and well performing chipsets out there :( I was thinking that the problem might be with Nvidia chipsets, because up until now, all the computers I tried had an nvidia chipset.
So there is alot of chance that a new P5Q mobo won't help either ...
Here is the hardware that I have tried so far :
Asus Striker II Extreme mobo nForce 790i Core2Quad Q9550 Gefore GTX285 in SLI X-Fi music and X-Fi gamer and Logitech USB and Onboard 3DMax audio Raptors in Raid-0 Vista 64bit
MSI mobo nForce 4 AMD Athlon X2 Ati Radeon x1900gt Onboard sound XP 32bit
Asus Striker Extreme mobo nForce 680i Qore2Quad 6600 Geforce 8800GTS 512MB X-Fi gamer Vista 64
So I was really hoping it to being EVE sound not compatible with nvidia chipsets ... because I have a core 2 quad lying around that I am not using and wanted to get me a P5Q mobo ( with P45 intel chipset ) to put it in ...
Running out of options now, still going to assemble the P5Q system, because I have a couple of spare parts lying around anyway, only need the mobo, a DVDRW and a cpu cooler.
I'll post if it works, or not.

Did "Extract the Renegade" last night. Upon warp-in, sound just vanished except for drone of shield hardeners.
Pulled camera focus way out then back in, helped a little.
I'll be g.d.'d if a perfectly working NVidia card before Apoc just suddenly becomes worthless to process sound. The problem has to be with whatever changed with Apocrypha.
Tired of posting to sound problem threads, but also real tired of being annoyed with maps affecting sound, deadspace missions affecting sound, having to disable sound, then enable to get rid of pops, etc.
I love the game, but CCP is really looking stupid and looking even more stupid as the months(!) click by.......

Sometimes I will not get any sound regardless of settings/volume etc. from the time startup the client. Sometimes the sound will just die out completely while playing...didn't start happening until this past month or so...happens on both my desktop and laptop...

last night I was walking a friend through the tutorial, and I noticed at one point one speaker did the crack, then went totally offline, then came back later.
Have had this problem on my own too. Never lost both at the same time though, only one side goes out, usually the right side. Can't remember the left side going out.
Later the speaker will give a loud crack and then the sound will be normal. If you're not getting sound at all, try zooming closer to your ship.
But for the one-ear problem, it's ongoing. I've no idea of the cause, but my friend had just been using the map in space, so maybe the map causes it after all.

That happens to me as well sometimes, when I then spin my camera it often goes away.
And I play almost completely zoomed in 90% of the time.
Meanwhile, I finished building the new ( cheap :p ) rig, it consists of harware that is know to be very reliable :
Asus P5Q Motherboard with Intel P45 Chipset Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2,5ghz CPU Scythe Mugen II CPU Cooler Samsung 320GB Sata Harddisk Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX285 1GB Graphics Adaptor Corsair VX 550 powersupply Coolermaster Centurion 5 Case with 2x 120mm fans Starting with onboard audio, have x-fi music, x-fi gamer and logitech usb headset ready to replace Starting with Windows XP 32bit as OS, have Vista 64 and Windows 7 64 ready to be installed.
1st I will do some heavy stress testing with prim95, occt, memtest and atitool, monitoring temps with everest. Not going to overclock anything until tested thouroughly with EVE to see if sound works. Will test EVE 1st, then update drivers, test again, update bios, test again, update windows, test again ... If XP 32 fails I will try Vista 64. I can swap sounds cards and put them in different pci slots. Only have 2 GTX285's atm, so can't test other GFX cards. ( well I could try some old 6600GT :p )
And more things like that :p I'll update this topic with my findings.

Yes. I run with sound off, so no issue for me :)
Like most people, I play zoomed out a bit so the sound is quite low. The last thing I need is to randomly zoom in to a 'baddon or something only to be deafened by the "BLAAAAAAAAARRGGGHGHHHHHHH" of it's shooters...

Edited by: CyberGh0st on 16/08/2009 14:16:46 Okay, so EVE definatly does not like me.
On the new system, I 1st tried to install the previous downloaded client ( which works fine on my other system ), naturally I get errors when unpacking. So I tried the online download, and well, I get the splash screen, but thats it. I tried downloading the client again ( full version ), can't install.
So I think I may have some bad driver or faulty hardware ( cursing myself for not installing / testing everything 1st :p ), and start installing all the latest drivers, update bios, testing everything right away : temps are good, cpu is good, ram is good ( memtest overnight, prime95 small ftt and blend over night ).
I try one last time with the full installer, no go.
Then I just copy the EVE folder from my other system, and it works :p
Then I start EVE, but I hear heavy crackling in my sound, alot worse than on my other computer, now it is even in the music ... I am freaking out, but I think to myself, relax, this is only the onboard sound, lets try with my logitech usb headset.
The game starts up alright and I gp speedtanking my rifter in some lowsec belt right away. Everything seems to work, except that sometimes not all the sound effects come thru, this stopped once there were only 2 rats left, from that point all effects worked correctly.
So, atm I think I have functional sound, it is still worse than pre-apocrypha with the positional sound, and some sounds not getting thru with more than 2 rats, but with this I could live ... for now ...
Still, going to try my x-fi gamer as well, will update with my findings :p

The sound issues are ridiculous. I had to tun off the sound because of all the constant crackling issues (they even spread to my entire system; Exiting eve was the only thing that helped. Of course I turned the sound off, but not before the crackling had ruined my brand new headset (yay 70$ down the drain)...
Word of advice, if you like high volume on your speakers, turn eve sound off. The crackling can sometimes be several time louder than what you were originally listening to.

Eve is the only software ever to make my speakers go 'pop' and shut off. Swirling the camera around makes another 'pop' when the sound comes back.
And thats even when playing with "world" volume at 0, because the station environment sounds are the audible equivalent of chinese water torture.

CCP thinks they should constantly add new things that don`t need replacing, as in this 'new' sound engine
Just wind it back to pre-Apocrypha, and all should be fine again (but that is too simple a solution ) ---

Are you a software engineer?
Do you have experience with the Trinity Engine and its sound components?
No? Then how the hell can you say that it would be a simple solution? -----

It is pretty logical to conclude that just reverting to the old sound system should not be insanely hard. Everything worked, ccp decides to start using a new engine, everything fails ...
Getting a new sound engine to work, now that is something more difficult I assume.
Either way, they should have let it alone, or put some serious effort and manpower on it !
I just get the feeling that they slapped on the new sound engine with little development time and not much testing, probably all done by just 1 guy.

1. The problems are easily replicated.
2. They are new problems so its recent code.
3. They changed the sound engine (I think) and used a company to do it who clearly sucks.
4. They have a new sound Dev, so something was wrong there.
5. They said sound has been fixed in the next patch.
6. If they had to they could simply turn off the relevant event trigger, easy enough, until it was fixed.
So the above says it can be done.

4 months of whining by hundreds of players and a BR will fix this? Does CCP allow their GM to use narcotics on the job?
Is CCP contacting the company they bought the API from audiokinetic? Because they are advertising that Eve online uses the WWise engine but with this flawed implementation many players experience. That same engine is used in quite a few different games and there the implementation is just fine. So it all boils down to CCP inable to implement the API properly. And even after a few patches 1.1,1.2,1.3 (and 1.5 if thats currently running on Sisi) its still not getting fixed. Seems that this DSP programming isn't as easy as you thought it would be?
