OP did not specify a gang type, my fit would be better suited at fleet work, or in a logistics gang, the active tank is the way to go if you are looking for something to take into small engagements or low sec.

if you want a shield buffer, fly a drake then

But none AS effective.
He wants to fly a Cyclone so odds are he has decent missile skills so if going for a shield buffer he should fly a Drake or a Myrm.
OP if you can afford it then go with a Large deadspace Booster, if you cant then decide between XL or L fits both of which have thier uses.
This logic does even make sense, you should not do something because its not as effective as a different ship. By your logic, I should not armor tank a minmatar ship because amarr or gallente do it better... I am not disagreeing with the active tank, it has its place, but do not discredit my suggested fit with faulty logic.
