I've been training the past week or so to manufacture myself some caldari navy cruise missile launchers but after a discussion in the mission channel today I'm no so sure if I should bother.
I'm pretty sure the auto answer to using T2 ammo against rats is that it isn't worth it but I have a few questions.
With my current skills, 7 cn launchers with cn missiles = 567dps
With Cruise mis spec lvl2 7 T2 launchers with fury missiles = 575dps
Now using fury missiles increases sig radius of a raven from 460m2 to 626m2. Does that cause anything significant to a battleships tank (I'm thinking no)
Faction ammo is nearly 3x times the price of t2 ammo, 2x if you buy them with loyalty points.
So err maybe t2 isn't such a bad idea?

As far as I can tell right it comes down to one question.
Does a sig radius of 626m2 negatively affect a battleships tank vs 460m2?

What you are missing is that t2 ammo has a much bigger explosion radius, so it does less damage to smaller things.
I would just use t1 ammo.

Could always swap between the two T2 ammo types depending on large or small targets.
Good old eve math. The factors that alter damage still confuse the hell outta me, size of opponent, tracking speed of turrets all that jazz.
Maybe I'll get those faction launchers after all.

I would just use t1 ammo. I think worth using faction on a golem since only ammo for 4 missile ejaculators and they will do dps of the full rack on raven.

except the explosion radius on t2 furys is rather (253m2 with 3 rigor rigs, 202 with 3 rigor rigs and a crash booster)  and switching ammo is a pain in the ass. but with 3 rigors and 2 target painters it could work.
increasing your own sig radius won't change much as you are in a battleship. you might take a wee bit more damage, doubtful it is enough to make much of a difference, especially if you sit still and spam missiles like most raven pilots. you are already fat and slow, being a bit fatter wont change much.
and faction ammo cannot be 2x the price and 3x the price it is one or the other.

lol you said ejaculate 
someone did the math and said faction ammo > t1 ammo. as it leads to a faster mission completion time, and thus more rewards to offset the additional cost.

Hint: LP value isn't and should never be considered fixed at 1000 ISK per LP. If 7.5 mil is what the going rate on those 5000 missiles is, then that is the value of the missiles if you were to buy them from the store yourself and sell them. If you buy them from the store and use them instead, you cost yourself that 7.5 mil you could have made selling them. Opportunity Cost

More over, as Chainsaw Plankton is saying, you really need to consider what the value of your LP's is based on the greatest return you could get from them in the LP store and then base to cost of your faction missiles from that.
If someone is selling faction missiles for what amounts to 1600 ISK/LP, and you find an item in the LP store that will return you 2200 ISK/LP, you would be stupid to buy your own faction missiles with those LP rather than selling the higher value store item and buying the cheaper off-market missiles.
