I can only support this, it would allow more tactics and actually allow people to use surprise for their advantage.
Even cloaked people appear in local their is no possibility of a surprise attack. The current system encourages running and hinding as larger numbers appear. I see a big blub coming to me ... i can run. I see 20 people suddenly popping into local ... i can run.
So i think removing local/pilots in space would encourage fighting.

Click the little man icon in the chat window, this turns off peoples names. Just ask everyone in local to do the same
Computer games don't affect children. If PacMan had affected us as kids then we'd all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music. |

Posted this to death months and months ago.
Its CLEARLY a way to make EVE combat more skillful and exciting yet nothing was done.
The time they remove Pilots from space on map is the time I start playing again more often.
Local chat and ways to find safespots would be next things to address but for me that all seeing map is the lamest early warning ultra consent combat nerfer around
Nubtastic Nubmen, to the Nubmobile

Edited by: Juniper on 30/09/2004 16:19:32 I think it's a good idea, though probably not for the reasons you lot have said ;-)
I just find it a bit artificial that everything your ship and you can do is determined by skills & equipment. So to see what roids are in a belt in your immediate vicinity, you use a survey scanner f'rinstance.
Except that magically you are able to spot & identify every single person in the system through local chat. You can "scan" remote systems through your map, see where the big blobs are moving to, and thus know where the fleets are. Like magic. No special skills or equipment required.
I would much rather go into the unknown, where my skills and equipment would determine what (if anything) I could actually "see". It would add more believability, balance and intrigue to the game as a whole IMO.
[Edit: I personally don't see any of this happening until Kali, at the very earliest. There's too much nerfability coming in with the new Trade skills and other areas for this to happen before then. Besides, they're probably getting close to "code freeze" time in Shiva]
