Here is a little background what this is all about. Lately i got a little bit bored of eve and had to play something different for a couple of days (doing that once in a while since after not playing anything else for month I need a little change once in a while).
And even though i know that this is never going to happen since ccp is busy with WOD-Online, besides the constant developement of eve / server related stuff.
So.... i just had a look back into my SOE account (shame on me) and realised that i got another 14 days of free game time for SWG (getting like 2 free weeks after each bigger update, nice move to get older players to look at the new contant and maybe resubscribe).
So i went and played SWG a bit and an old idea came back into my mind....
A fusion of EvE, SWG and Jedi knight ;).
1. The whole market system and so on as it is in eve. Also have the same harsh environment where a wrong turn could cost you a big chunk of your money. (completly player driven, with no or just a minimum of supply from npcs)
2. One persistant world
3. A new character system that allows players to slowly get better at what they do, but does not really have a limit.
3.1. In any game there is a maximum to your skills, which in my oppinion is a real big design flaw (eve got arround it by all the cross training possibilities so that you can never really max out a char). If i am constantly fighting using a sword for 5 years and killed like half a millon ppl its just fair if I have an advantage over some1 who has been in the game for 2 weeks and just ginds like crazy.
3.2. The skill and stat increase should be really slow though... stat increase should be related to the skill development.
Let¦s say i am "bounty hunter" and i have a skill named sniper rifles. For every x experience in that skill i get a bonus of 0.01% on my accuracy. When i use a sword i get a 0.01% bonus on strength and so on.
That leaves us the option to get rid of the level limit since development will be quite slow, but you can allways get a little bit better at what you are doing.
That way long term players have a motivation to stay in the game. And newer players with lots of time still have a chance to catch up slowly with powergrinding.
4. Combat general
4.1 Space combat 4.1.1 Small fighters
Small fighters should be piloted from a ****pit view and should keep the controls as they are in SWG.
4.1.2. Big ships
Big ships like star derstroyers being piloted like ships in eve with an option to invite ppl to get on your ship to man the turret (which would be more efficiant especially against smaller targets than using your targetting computer)
Big ships also are used as carriers for small ships. Either in space or docked at a station players are able to store ships inside friendly cap ship hangars. If you choose to be stationed on that ship you will respawn inside the ships hangar in your next ship rdy to get back into combat.
4.2 Ground combat
Ground combat is where Jedi knight comes into play. PvP in Jedi knight allways was real fun for me as its fast paced and not just the lock target -> use skills kind of combat.
Best way for ground combat to combine player skill and character skill imo.
5. PvP
5.1 Exp in PvP
PvP should get you experience as well, but only for killing ppl who are at aboout the same level of your fighting style. You get experience as bounty hounter for killing other ranged chars but wont get exp by killing a melee focused char so naturally if you use your enemys week spot it will be easy for you to kill him so your char will not earn any experience from it.
5.2. Conquerable planets
Players should be able to first capture / destroy cities of enemy forces and once they got the planet completly under control also should be able to build up some orbital defenses to prevent hostile troop transports to land.
Those planets then can be used to setup harvesters which get you the ressources for your ships / equipment.

like it. maybe put in in the mechwarrior universe for the ultimate cool game.
i rather like the skill system. you get better at using the item the more you use in and your level only decide what kind of gear you can get/use.

Well.. something like that surely could be added to ground combat since running arround in AT-ATs AT-STs and stuff like that comes pretty close to that... when you add some customisation to armor / guns / speed etc.... you got your mechwarrier (with a different design though).

A few things i would also like to see.
Set in the time just before the X-wing series (Palpatine dead, but empire still strong, rebels are stilll somewhat in hiding)
Joining rebels or empire an actual affecting thing, not just openning up opportunities.
Like, if you are a rebel then you can go "On Leave" but if you are at all known as a rebel then there is a chance that you will get "caught" and immediately become Over Rebel.
And then the same with Imperials on outlier worlds (Though there won't be nearly as many rebel NPC Police, so a bunch of players can actually 'flush' out the local rebellion)
The Imperials would have a HUGE NPC advantage, and i mean ****ing HUGE. And to stop every single player from joining the empire, make it so the rebels have much easier access to the high-end faction equipment.
And, Jedi are rebel/neutral exclusive, if the empire ever finds a jedi (Even a high-ranked spec ops soldier) it is dead.
And, much like SWG, A jedi dieing should be a gigantic setback for you (Thinking along the lines of a lightsaber being destroyed when you die, and lightsabers also being horribly expensive). But, also like PRE-CU SWG, jedi are gods on the battlefield, cutting up the most powerful players like butter, jumping up to AT-AT and throwing bombs into them, etc. ------------------------------------- My other alt is a Ferrari

Yeah.. the time setting fits to what i have in my mind.... was thinking about starting the story after the destruction of the second death star.
But actually the jedi profession should not just be for rebels or groups being friendly to them.
There also should be a sith route which would make it impossible for you to join the rebels, but also wont be liked by the imperials. Building up your own evil empire is the way to go in that case.
Like in the jedi knight story where once in a while some sith lord once again tries to conquer the universe ;).
Also there should be something similiar to the alliances in eve, besides the npc factions. Have at least 2 planets for each npc faction for starters to get into the game.... but make everything else (or at least the outer rim conquerable).

The only problem i can see is the players might complain, and the develpoer might cave in and make it carebearland.
If only there was a company that had the willpower to make such a game*CoughCCPCough*.

Keyword right there.... and the most likely reason Mitnal left. He saw what they were doing to his game And did you know that this is in fact Surfin's Plunderbunny's forum alt? It's official! |
