Being someone who has been lucky with the beta invite and getting to test the game, I really want to know what CCP has planned to keep people's attention on the game.
Whilst I wont comment on what I thought of the game, I have to ask why will people spend money on DUST, rather than the next CoD, Battlefield or other FPS?
I know DUST will have its hardcore fans, aswell as many Eve Players, but since the game is ment to be for console gamers, what exactly is there to keep them playing over and over? Given that most console gamers I know have a new game every other week, if not more... |

that's easy: customization, long term planning and never ending skilling, personalization, focusing on specific tasks together with your corp mates and basically everything that makes EVE a unique game, but in the dust. Achieving perfection in DUST won't be anyway similar to any other game.
and yes, I get paied to say this. In AUR of course. _________________________ just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not after you |

WoT is a PC game, not a console game, and both of which have completely different mentalitys, aswell as user base.
Bare in mind that alot of modern PC's will allow you to do two or more things at once, Minecraft whilst on a CTA for example =P.
I personally cannot see what would keep a console gamer sticking with DUST. |

As someone whos first experience with a console was a new game every two weeks, I'd have to say I've only found a handful of console games in the past 12 years that held my interest for long.
~ Gran Tourismo 3 and 4 ~ Mass Effect 2 ~ Armored Core 3 and 4 ~ Ace Combat 4 ~ Assassins Creed 2
That's pretty much it. Most console games suck and it's a good thing there are game stores that take trade ins. Auction - EVE Rogues Alliance [ROGUE]: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1215438#post1215438-á-á~ Latest bid: 40 million ISK. |

How about regular updates?
Its hard to compare Dust to other console games when CCP is clearly going to be adding game changing content on a regular basis. (MTAC anyone?)
You know people are going to play it for a month. Put it down. Hear about the expansion. Play it again.
Those players will be the ones buying the aurum to pay for their stuff while the regular players will be earning isk and controlling nullsec.
Of course those are my thoughts. I could be wrong vOv |

What do you mean by spend money? Dust is free to download and play. Welcome to Eve Online. Don't expect people to be nice to you. |

they said they would have expansions to the game, plus if they realy have 1 map per planet in nullsec there will be significantly more maps then any other shooter i can think of. |

Dust is a microtransaction game. People will spend money to play much like you would for Tribes, World of Tanks or Eve-online (GTC for isk exchanges) |

Scope is what is going to really keep Dust interesting. The sheer size of the game, the number of things it sounds like you will be able to do, the number of game types they are talking about--particularly once you start thinking about the arena--and of course good core game-play. If all of these things exist in balance with a steady influx of new content, then Dust 514 ought to be successful for quite some time.
Keep in mind, the average FPS today has a life-cycle of generally about 1 year. There's some DLC, which a lot of people don't buy for a number of reasons. If Dust has just bi-annual expansions, like EVE, and they are free, they'd be getting what sounds like substantial DLC every 6 months. It would totally change the cycle. Personally, I think tri-annual or quarterly slightly less substantial updates might be more effective at keeping everyone's attention, but that is just a personal opinion. I don't think some of us are giving FPS gamers as much credit as they deserve in terms of dedication to a single game. Some of us devote, still, quite a bit of time to FPS' that are over 2 years old.

Hmmmm ok DLC could be a way, but it would need to be pretty significant and regular but would only bring people back in short bursts, that and having a game that relys on DLC to keep its player base is worrying at best.
What I still dont get is how the game itself plans to keep people playing, or having non Eve players say to their friends, hey lets go play DUST?
Yes DUST will have random maps, but currently its still the same map, same art, same sky, its just all in a different place, so currently there is 1 single map, compared to most FPS which have 8 or so maps at launch, with usually totally different looks and playstyles.
And yes this game will have Micro-Transactions, CCP has to make some money from the game somehow, but as to what you would spend that on, nobody really knows yet. |
