the fact that you can "ram" antoher ship without there being any damage is actualy a little retarded. we arent flying bumper cars.
Allow some damage. Then we can have some raming going on. -------------------------------------------- I've had the same Gurista Imputor on my tail for the past 16 systems..
2004.08.16 21:38:37 - Combat: Your 250mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes Blood Sage, wrecking for 324.9 damage.

a ramming bs at speed would just completely destroy all frigates in its path, its realistic, but not fair imo, would be too powerfull and indeed its a no-brainer tactic
some damage could be dealt, but looking at how much traffic goes to yulai for example it can get pretty busy there, people hitting their mwd/burners to get to gate and bumping into other ships..
if ramming gets in the concord kill list will grow by thousands...
Its not enough to succeed. Others must fail. |

And you know the mechanics/physics of force fields how? For all you know when 2 force fields collide it creates a super soft and semi-flexable buffer which gently repells both ships.

yeah - its pain in the arse to get Bessy that 15 Km to gate if some one is ramming it constantly
/edit: and if you make Ramming causing damage - imagien yulai! CONCORD will be overemplyed all the time cause all the traffik tickets they need to write to all

heck yea allow raming. its been a naval tactic for thousands of years. heck we have ice breakers wich are designed for raming ice. in world war 2 the japs perfected it arebaticly and with small subrines. their kamakazi attacks claimed several battleships and carriers as well as american boombers and a host of other targets.
you see raming going on in the harbors of the world, look at tug boats for instant they are designed for raming other ships and pushing them about.
a few years ago a small boat laden with explosive tried to sink the USS COLE rember that. it isnt just a made up lame tactic, its been used in every war we can really rember. back to he castles of the medievil times batter rams where used to pumel great castle doors. so why wouldnt raming evole into space combat as well. i like the idea of raming ships im sure there would be somthing out their desigend to do that. maybey even ships desighened to ram and then incapacitate for salvage, they did in homeworld? and cataclysm rember the raming frigats desiged to push enemy capital ships away from the moher ship while damaging the target and them selves?
raming has a place in eve and i hope the devs see this and make a well balanced form for this type of warfare.

Ramming is too much of a no brainer to actually deal damage, keep it as it is (even though it's pretty pathetic to be ramming people imo.)

For really no brainer load the ramming ship with 6-8 Lg Smartbombs, a little armor tanking, then the fun would really begin.
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

Originally by: Lallante Picture this, a dedicated ramming vessel fits 2 MWDs, 6 of the best rare rams: "Rolled Tungsten Spiking" (dmg mod 1.0) and Charges into another BS. Dmg is 1.0 x 1000m/s = 1000 KINETIC dmg per ram, 6000 KINETIC dmg total. The ship would then have to retreat, turn around and ram again.
MWDs make it impossible to ballance if the damage is based on top speed. I'm doing 560km/s in an apoc right now; It passes 100km/s in a blink of an eye and has a theoretical top speed of 875km/s. How could ramming ever be ballanced for such a ship? Using 8 of the rare rams, it would have a damage potential of up to 4480000 kinetic damage -- no amount of hardeners would save you from instant death.

yes yes, ramming might work, assuming that if the ship fitted for ramming didn't hit the target squarely that both ships would be at risk of taking damage. But this is assuming that MWD's are taken out of the game. IF you want to talk about realism, a 100mn mwd fitted to a battleship would likely send the engines travelling up through the hull of the ship it was mounted to & rip it to shreds... if we lost mwd's then perhaps ramming would be more viable an option.
The problem is that mwds make the game more convenient. & convenience will likely win out over realism.

I think ramming could be cool, but don't see it happening.
First off, for ramming to work, any collision would have to cause damage.
"If two ships exit a wormhole at the same time, trying to occupy the same space, you end up with no ships and a very large explosion." - Miles Vorkosigan
This would make quickjumps, and the current method of stargate jumps (which should NOT be changed IMHO), very very dangerous.
Secondly, I'd imagine coding ramming and collision damage would be very difficult, particularly as the coordinate my client thinks my ship's current location is, and the coordinate your client thinks my ship's current location is, do not always agree.
You'd end up with a situation like planetside, where you see them missing but they see themselves hitting so you got hit.
So, while ramming would be realistic and I'd love to see it, I think overall we are better off if they just leave it as is.
