Chris/Twisted, glad to hear that you're relatively ok and things didn't get worse for you. Stay in contact with the local law enforcement authorities and please keep me informed with how things progress. You can send me an e-mail any time.
For those players that want to interact with other players, please heed Chris' experience as a warning. If you are going to meet other players that you haven't met before, do so at a fanfest, large player gathering, or if that is not possible, in a controlled enviroment like a mall or restaurant. Always bring a couple friends with you as well.
Do not think that because you have interacted with someone for a long time online or talked to them over the phone once or twice, that a person is "safe". Also, do not think that because you have are a "Xth Degree Black Belt in <insert martial art name here>" or carry a can of mace, that you are safe.
The internet is a great place to meet people with similar interests and there are stories of great friendships or long-term relationships that started online. There are also tales of internet predators preying on others. Just be safe, be cautious and careful.

I'm going to clean this thread up a bit and take out some of the off-topic posts. This is a topic that can have serious consequences and I would rather have relevant discussion than lock the post because some posters would rather question the assaulted player's actions.

Originally by: MadGaz Can you give us some player names?
Player names won't be given, nor any other personal information of anyone involved in this matter. It is a matter between the people involved and the local law enforcement. If the police contact CCP for assistance, it will be given to them.

Cleaning this thread yet again. Whether this event occured or not is not open for debate and threads of this nature will be deleted. Positive, constructive tips on how to handle an out of game meeting, or other relevant items can remain. All other posts will be removed.

This link came from one of the EVE players, who happens to be a police officer. While the link refers to using an online dating service to meet someone from the internet, later in the article are rules that should be applied to any situation where one person meets another one in the real world.

CCP is being kept in the loop and will take whatever steps are necessary, Judsia. However, any actions taken against any players, player names, or any other information will not be released by CCP.
