How can he prevent you from doing anything if he's AFK?
Quote: the afk station sitter who keeps me camping the station forever
Wouldn't make any different if he wasn't AFK.
Quote: the afk ratter who gets me traveling to his system for gankage
How is that a problem? AFK = free kill.
Quote: the afk ally mates which indicate a crowded system with to few belts for you all ;)
Say what?!
Quote: the afk perma login alts indicating a HUGE corp with lots of active members all the time
…so…?

er because anyone with half a brain can work around it anyway, making it pointless
so many choices too. you have got macros, an old mouse pad that makes your optical mouse jump around, putting whiskas on the keyboard so your cat visits every once in awhile, or, dadumdumduuum a program specifically designed to keep the keyboard active or even a simple VB script that writes to the keyboard buffer.
if there was an idle timer in Eve, I would immediately setup some method to circumvent it

And why would you do such a thing? You are afk, you can totally log out.
Anyways, you know whats actually pointless? Posting here and expecting something constructive.

I take it you are seriously worried about our climate changes and therefore supporting hundreds of US players, their alts and their dogs beeing logged in sitting in a station and wasting energy and resources BIG time?
Just how does having thousands of computers running on earth affect solar output? I'm always confused by this...
Plus, it's looking like a year without summer in my neck of the woods. Need the CPU burning to keep warm.

BF2 matches pit at most 32 players against another 32. Even having one guy AFK hurts the team. In Eve you have up to 50,000+ people on at a time, all doing their own thing.
Not to mention that losing a match in BF2 is no big deal, whereas losing a ship in EVE means days, or even weeks worth of isk.

I think we do need an autokick function for AFKers. If I'm AFK it should kick every active player in my systm so that I won't annoy them.

CCP OBVIOUSLY doesn't care about global warming or they would implement an auto disconnect...make that auto computer shutdown.

Name one MMO that has an auto-kick function after 30 minutes or 1 hour or somesuch. BF2 is not "really" a MMO, it's "actually" a FPS (ok, a FPS/someotherstuff hybrid, but still not what you'd call a "proper" MMO).
Originally by: Vanessa Vasquez My idle desktop is 153 watts, running eve client while idleing in station is 383 watts.
Let's say 300 W per idle player, times 20k idle players tops, that's 6 MW worldwide. Meh, peanuts.
Originally by: Vanessa Vasquez Why is there no auto-disconnect feature in EVE which disconnects users after a certain amount of idle time?
THERE IS ONE. It's called "daily downtime". Oh, so you don't like the fact it's only after max 23 hours of idleness ? Well, boo-hoo.
In EVE, idle//AFK pilots barely use any server resources - it's the ACTIVE ones that are CPU hogs.

As long as Local remains the uber-intelligence tool, cloaking with the appearance of AFK remains a legitimate tactic.
Setting local to delayed mode would be a serious nerf to the AFK cloakers, as they would no longer appear in the magical list to terrorize and annoy you. ~ Santiago Fahahrri Galactic Geographic |

And on top, i really think it's a uneccessary waste of resources.

WoW will do it in two tiers. After 30 minutes of being AFK, the game will log you out back to character selection screen. 30 more minutes after that, and the game will log you out entirely and you will be back at the log in screen.
But then again, WoW is not so much of a game as it is a cancer.

A cancer that actively tries to tell you that its bad by logging you off, disconnecting you and completely shutting down one day a week.
But just like that box of doughnuts, you can't keep yourself from taking it in, no matter how crappy it tastes afterwards. ________________________________________________

Lord Of The Rings Online also does this. it used to be possible to not get afk logged out by activating the autorun, as you cant log out while moving, but they changed it so that afk auto log ignores movement. its like the isk farmers and spam bots, they just adapt to everything we try to get rid of them, and afkers will just adapt when they need to as well ______________________________________________ CEO of 352 Industries. Age of Conan does it as well. TBh, the op is right. I don't see any reason why people have to stay logged in all the time. You go afk, get disconnected after 30/60 minutes, you come back, log back in. simple as that. |

Let me guess... you DON'T remain attackable for minutes after you get auto-logged-out in those games, and you don't lose anything of significance when you die there, do you ?

Mother Nature's death, burning forests and Macro Miners aside...
It's tactics. This is a game of constant war and competition. Spying and disinformation are the one of the cheapest and effective of tactics. Been around way before MMOs, read Sun Tzu- The Art of War.
Seems to work too, if you have spent more than five minutes camped outside a station waiting for your rival to undock- and he is AFK- or running an alt somewhere else- you have been manipulated into wasting your time and resources while your opponent is watchin Gilligan's Island or running Level 4 missions- costing him nothing. Tada!
Also you fail to see the bright side of your little dilema- You could be AFK mining Veldspar and playing BF 2 at the same time.
Final comment, as opposed to fake edit, Why don't you post this crap in the Features Forum?

how would autokicking making it use less power? if youre idle, you dont get much packets of data and action, and if youre kicked your PC is still running.
if that cloaker is afk, why are you worried? :)
