They have very little regular cargo capacity, but with their advanced refrigeration systems, the gasses are super-cooled and safely stored in liquid form in the ships special tanks.ö
With the forthcoming introduction of dedicated cargo bay types, the winter expansion would be the perfect time to introduce gas mining vessels. These are specialist, expensive, ships with one new skill required, Gas Barge (rank 8)
Aventine û estimated price 15-20m isk Skills required Gas Barge I -Mining Barge V --Astrogeology IV ---Science IV ---Mining IV --Industry V
Gas Barge Skill bonus 5% reduction to Gas Cloud Strip Miners cycle time per level Role Bonus: Able to equip Gas Cloud Strip Harvesters
High: 4 (no turret or launcher hardpoints) Mids: 3 Lows: 2 Rigs: 3
Cargo capacity: 90m3 Super-cooled liquid gas tank capacity: 6,000m3 Maximum velocity: 70m/s Drone bay 25m3, 25mbit/s Signature radius: 200m
Nessus û estimated price 150-200m isk Skills required Gas Barge IV Exhumers I -Spaceship Command IV -Industry V -Astrogeology V --Science V --Mining V -Mining Barge V
Gas Barge Skill bonus 5% reduction to Gas Cloud Strip Harvesters cycle time per level 9.5% bonus to all shield resistances per level Exhumers Skill Bonus/Penalty 15% increase in gas tank capacity per level, 5% reduction in maximum velocity per level
Role Bonus: Able to equip Gas Cloud Strip Harvesters
Highs: 4 Mids: 5 Lows: 4 Rigs: 2
Cargo Capacity: 160m3 Super-cooled liquid gas tank capacity: 10,000m3 Maximum velocity: 70m/s Drone bay 75m3, 50mbit/s Signature radius: 200m
Gas Harvesting mods
Existing mods Gas Cloud Harvester I û 10m3 per 30s cycle --- 40m3 per 120s x 5 turrets = 200m3 per cycle -Mining IV -Gas Cloud Harvesting I Gas Cloud Harvester II û 20m3 per 40s cycle --- 60m3 per 120s turrets x 5 = 300m3 per cycle -Mining IV -Gas Cloud Harvesting V
Additional Gas Cloud Strip Harvester I û 60m3 per 120s base cycle, x4 strips = 240m3 per cycle -Mining IV -Gas Cloud Harvesting I Gas Cloud Strip Harvester II* û 80m3 per 120s base cycle, x4 strips = 320 m3 per cycle -Mining V -Gas Cloud Harvesting V
*Gas Cloud Strip Harvester IIs would be fine on their own, but alternatively could be a Modulated type that can be fitted with a new set of frequency crystals (20m3 each) dedicated to different gas cloud types, perhaps increasing yield by 20m3 but at the expense of [a greater signature radius?]. e.g., Modulated Gas Cloud Strip Harvester II w/Fullerite-C72 Harvesting Crystal = 100m3 per 120s base cycle, x4 = 400 m3 per cycle
The Nessus has extra mids and lows to provide a better tank for w-space mining (hence also the 9.5% resists for the Nessus, compared to 7.5% for the Hulk), but crucially both the Nessus and Aventine can only fit gas strip miners in their high slots (no cloaky!) and they have are penalised by being extremely slow (thus allowing new miners a choice to increase their gas tank size, existing exhumer pilots might take issue with this next bit) and having a larger signature radius.
Exhumers skill bonus/penalty stats: 1 11,500m3 67m/s 2 13,225 63 3 15,209 60 4 17,490 57 5 20,115 54
The extra mid and low slots do however allow for the option of speed/mass/inertia boosting modules.
CPU and PG, like the existing barges and exhumers the numbers will be very tight but a cap-stable, faction medium shield booster based tank should be a possibility. Solo mining and tanking sleepers should be an achievable, but incredibly risky endeavour.
On the names. Dante was guided by the centaur Nessus through the outer ring of the Seventh Circle of Hell in the Divina Commedia, so it seems an appropriate name for an Outer Ring Excavations vessel. Following the theme of sevenths, Aventine was one of the seven hills of ancient Rome. ______ Tl;dr, Gas ships.
